Re: [RE-wrenches] SMA Sunny Boy Display Window

2018-05-12 Thread louis
When the fogged over display window gets to the point where you can not see anything it can lead to the homeowner simply relying on the Green Led for operation verifying.A very common failure can go undetected if only the Green Led is used.No errors, solid Green Led but not pushing power!Home owners eventually figure something is wrong when utility bill goes up...I have not yet seen this on the newer SB versions, only the old SWR ones.

We have installed quite a few SB's over the years and are seeing a growing number of fogged over display lenses. We've tried headlight polish with limited success. Other than purchasing a new lid from SMA does anyone have another solution to restoring or replacing the window?Wayne Irwin, President License #CVC56695 State Licensed Solar Contractor Pure Energy Solar International Inc. wa...@pureenergysolar.com http://PureEnergySolar.com http://SolarChargingStation.net 352 377-6527 Office 352 336-3299 Fax 352 316-1637 Cell The Sun Is Always Shining! Is all the polishing done on the outside of the display? You'd think the folks
at SMA could have used glass. I've had my local glass guy cut me special sized
UV/automotive glass that I then secure to the inside of the indentation around
the display window with 3M 2-sided outdoor-rated tape, costs ~$12. Those have
only been out there for about 5 years, I'll report back in another 5 years .

I also just started using a UV rated window 'film' which is
similar to the that little strip of plastic you peel off the display of an
SBX.0-40 after installation.maybe we should leave that factory plastic
strip on!?

Occasionally , we go nuts and build a very well vented cabinet
around it. In the pic, that lower board hinges down over display

We use automotive grade polisher after a run with 1200 then 1800 the 2400
wet sand paper, you must clean the surface before attempting to polish and
then you need a powered cotton wheel, that works for us

Toothpaste is a good option & also there is a product that re-establishes the
clarity to headlight lenses at your local auto parts store.
