Re: [RE-wrenches] Slate roof attachment?
We did a slate roof project. We got the equipment from Quickmount. The system involved a standoff bolted to the purlins with an oversized flashing. Three slates needed to be removed for each attachment, and a hole cut in the slate for the standoff. The system works well, but was expensive and slow to install. Don't use any system that requires compressing the slate. Such an approach had originally been recommended, but our roofer agreed that it was a very bad method. You will need a slate roof guy to remove and replace the slates, and repair any damage that occurs. Re: [RE-wrenches] Slate roof attachment?
We recently did a slate roof. We used the Unirac standoff posts and Oatey flashings. We had the roofer who installed the slate put the posts in. He also left his staging up for us to work on. This is the only slate roof we’ve ever done because the cost of the roofer usually makes the job too expensive. I wouldn’t install the mounts in house because slate is so difficult to work with. You also can’t walk on it or it cracks. Re: [RE-wrenches] Slate roof attachment?
Hi Lars, Slate is a tough one. We’ve always hired a roofer to work with us on slate roofs – they can setup toe boards (if it is steep) and work with our installers as we mount stanchions. We’ve used standard cylindrical posts such as Unirac standoffs or Pro Solar Fast Jacks and then they flash them with copper flashings. They can also replace slates as they break. I would never attempt to work on a slate roof without a roofer involved – it is simply too fragile. Completely agree, slate brakes if you look at it wrong and that being said who is responsible to remove the modules to replace the tiles for the next how many years Jerry Sent from my Verizon Wireless 4G LTE smartphone Original message From: August Goers aug...@luminalt.com Date: 07/08/2015 11:28 AM (GMT-10:00) To: RE-wrenches re-wrenches@lists.re-wrenches.org Subject: Re: [RE-wrenches] Slate roof attachment?
