 Russ,

Thanks for the note. Yes, I do have some copies of manuals for the
receiver, transmitter, and repeater chassis. I was looking for feedback
before I crack the case on the repeater as I want to keep the time on the
bench to a minimum, and keep the interruption to on the air availability
to
a minimum. Just hearing that others have had success helps a lot.

Something similar to a ComSpec application note would certainly be welcome
from anyone. However, there will come a day in the near future when I will
pull the thing down and open it up. I did see in the Maggiore manual that
it is an FM exciter. I did not see anydrawing or schematic points
indicatedfor CTCSS (that's PL for you Moto types..) It'll just take
me a little extra time to fix it upwithout the group's morehelpful
tips. However, I believe I can do it. It should be relatively easy
to hook the encode tone lead to the wiper of the deviation pot, and to find a
source of tone from the receiver. My experiencein
obtainingsatisfactory assistance from Magiorrehas been unfavorable,
and recently the email links on their web page were not working. If it
were my personal repeater, I might replace it with a MASTR II. It's
not, so I am workiing with what I have. So those of you who would
suggest that I get a real repeater are now in the know.

RE: [Repeater-Builder] hello- i have a question

2004-05-08 Thread Richard

From
reading your message, it's very difficult to determine what you're asking. I
think you're wanting to share your DSL service with a friend at another
location. You could probably do this with wi-fi if the distance isn't too
greatand that would be the easiest and most elegant solution.I
wouldn't recommend doing it without checking with your ISP first. Reason being,
if (when?) they find out what you're doing, they'll probably (at the very least)
disconnect you andbill you for service for two locations as far back as
they think you've been doing it,unless you have some type of business
account with them that allows that sort of thing.

Repeaters are mainly for voice communication.

Hope
this helps.

I believe that you are referring to 3M Scotchkote Electrical Coating
compound. There are several dozen 3M products available under the
family name of Scotchkote, many of which have nothing to do with
electrical use. The details are available at:

http://products3.3m.com/catalog/us/en001/electronics_mfg/esm/node_GS17WPCZRYgs/root_GST1T4S9TCgv/vroot_DPB1Q1MJ7Nge/bgel_CB3Q9WMK52bl/gvel_WK8GCR2GN3gl/theme_us_electronicsesm_3_0/command_AbcPageHandler/output_html

Most electrical supply houses will stock Scotchkote Electrical Coating

[Repeater-Builder] Maggiore VHF R1 Connection to ComSpec TS64-DS...

2004-05-08 Thread Steve Grantham
Dave,

Yes. I would be glad to see it. The repeater in question is VHF
(2-meter). However, except for a possible difference in the input level of
the CTCSS tone to the different band exciters, I would think that it should
be a similar installation.

Thanks!

[Repeater-Builder] Spectrum Communications

2004-05-08 Thread Joe

I was at a hamfest a week ago looking at a Spectrum SCR1000 repeater for 220Mhz. The owner tried to convice me that Spectrum is still in business, I said that I thought not. He claimed that they are still advertising in QST, I can't find the ad.

Anyone know the real story on Spectrum Communications?

Joe

[Repeater-Builder] RC 210 / 220 radio for remote ideas?

2004-05-08 Thread Robert W Burton
I am considering upgrading to a RC 210 controller over the summer. I
have a RC100 (from MCC) that I married with a CSI CS1688 latch board to
work with a TMG707 and a IC3AT for a remote base system. Worked great. I
took the controller and WAS going to put it into a cleaner looking
box...but never got around to it. Running another RC100 with just the
TMG707 right now.

Meanwhile...the RC210 came out. Looks great and would make life easier
in the remote base work for the NWS here locally. However.it would
still leave my 220 remote out (I need to control the BCD line and would
have no way of doing it)

I need ideas to make a 220 freq agile (or at least work the channels on
it) with the RC210

or

Ideas on how to use the RC100 to control the IC3AT and use the RC210 as
the main controller.

Would really like NOT to do the other. Trying to make this as simple as
possible.

Ideas?
Thanks,
Robert

2004-05-08 Thread Q
You can control any transciever that has an up/down button on its mic with a
pulsed output from your controller,if it has one. I call it the poor mans
remote. It only allows switching the memory channels one at a time. Its most
useful if the radio has voice readback of the frequency. Been doing this
with an Icom IC47A for years. YMMV,73,Lee

2004-05-08 Thread Stephen Slider
Robert, The RC-210 is a three port controller. You could plug port 1 of
the RC-100 into port 2 or 3 on the RC-210 and make the RC-210 forward
DTMF's to it. If you get one, let me know. I would be interested in the
outcome. Contact me off list.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Spectrum Communications

2004-05-08 Thread Budd Turner : N7EOJ

Hi Joe:
You just hit the "shock awe" button for this group.
Yes the company is still in business. It has the worst reputation of any I have encountered. Kevin Schaeffer is the only person you can communicate with. You quickly realize he is a snake oil and used car specialist

When I mentioned Rectum Cons. on this group, traffic quadrupled for almost a week. I immediately received not several, but many, emails with similar stories. Mostgave me the name, phone number and email to a specific agent in the Pennsylvania Attorney General's office that was handling similar cases against the company.
My personal experience started ~9 months ago, and lasted7 months. I was talked into resurrecting an SCR1000 with a long history of problems. (Had I been a member of this group then I wouldn't have touched the SCR1000)
I sent the exciter PA for repairs.Kevin initially said it needed a new exciter ($250) and they would retune the PA for free. Then it was $350. After many unanswered emails and phone calls, Kevin said they had to do extra work requiring the additional charge. He then charged my Visa $450. After many unanswered emails and phone calls over a three month period I had Visa reverse the charges. That resulted in Kevin screaming onmy phone at 5:00 AM thefollowing morning.
After another month of negotiating, I said I would not pay any more than the justified $350. When I received the Transmitter section back, seven months after sending to them, it lacked the crystal oven Kevin said is standard on their exciters.Transmit power is 12-18 Watts with the claimed 30 Watt PA.
I decided to accept it as having been screwed and not bother with further deception and irritation.

They are relocating to the city of Atlantis, under the water to cool
those funny circuits so the smoke won't leak out on the test bench - we
are all awaiting the new phone number and zip code as the location known
to most is extinct. Rumor has is they were the pioneers of broadband but
sold out to competitors like Enron, who were unable to use the force
safely in real time.

simpler method.

Simply turn off DTMF muting on the RC210 port you use to connect to the

simply be passed out the port to which the RC100 is connected. Make sense?

While I realize you'd prefer not to have to use the RC100 as an
intermediary, the 210 will not directly support the 3AT, sorry.

I had thought the same thing when Stephen pointed that out. I'm
wondering thoughif this would work;
Can you not tell the RC210 to send out a line of dtmf's? Set this
up in a macro? That way you could have channels that the IC3AT
would just dial up to. I also wonder in the same macro if you could
get it to pause or drop the tx then re-key and send another
string of dtmf's? I haven't played with it yet...but I change the
dip switches on the ts32 (for the 3at) with the CS-1688. Not sure
yet if it couldn't be incoorperated in to the one line of dtmf's yet
or not. If that would workthat would be cool :-)

---Yep, you sure can. The 210 has 20 DTMF memories, each of which can
store 10 digits. Each memory can be called from a Command Macro.

I'm not familiar with the sequence of events that need to take place when
you send a command to the RC100 in order to do what you want but it doesn't
accept some DTMF digit as a command terminator, to force command
execution (as in the case of a 'stuck' COS)?

Currently in an RC210 Command Macro, there is no way to actually drop the
PTT line on a port.
