[Repeater-Builder] Re: VHF Amplifier
What Kevin was getting at was you might have better sensitivity or be able to use a simpler duplexer with a tube or "tuned" amplifier. The power rating of the duplexer has little to do with the isolation it provides. The wideband solid state amp, even when run at lower power levels, still amplifies the TX noise the same. The "tuned" tube amp will not produce as much noise on the RX freq. I was able to remove one TX cavity and use a preamp on a repeater I had with the GE 1/4kw amp replacing a solid state amp at 300W out. You might keep yoour eyes peeled for one of these jewels. 73 es good luck Ed K3SWJ --- In Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com, "Jimmy Floyd" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Kevin and all, > > Thanks for the input on the VHF amplifier. [Repeater-Builder] Re: MII Rpeater Remote - Rpt Audio problem
Yes I worked in Lynchburg on the development of MII. Here's the scoop: The option I believe you have is station PSLM covered in LBI- 4691B. In the radio shelf there is normally a DA jumper from Vol-Hi pin 3 to pin 17 of J932 called PSLM B. This is removed forwith options 9552, 9553 and 9554. These option numbers vary for Tone or DC or local control. It was an interesting option as in the early repeater days hams had to listen on the repeater output to prevent "interference" to the repeater. This was used to monitor both frequencies with one receiver. Commercial guys used it for simplex operation on the repeater output sometimes. Anyway you should see a shielded wire in the harness that runs to the control shelf. It was usually added to the last slot or next to last slot as viewed from the rear. These will be running to C5 and C2 on the slot connector. I'd cut these out of the harness. You can leave them but sometimes without the card the wires will pick up RF and suck it into the system. The audio ran into the PSLM on C2 I think and out back to the system on C5 (shelf). I believe the jumper from J932-3 to J932-17 will be missing. You could jump the control shelf end to get it to work. I looked at the schematics, but I can't find the notes tonight on how I found this problem or which way I fixed it. Hope this helps. I got two MII machines one on 450 and one on 145. Alot of fun tinkering with these. They don't make them like this or the Micor anymore. 73 es good luck Ed K3SWJ --- In Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com, "ka3mpt" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > If you can dig out the info in the manual.. please do so.. > > John > > --- In Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com, "edctexas" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Yes I felt the same way when I had a similar and perhaps the > > same problem. Just make sure someone with a "police key" doesn't come along and switch your repeater to the "flashing" mode ;-) Chuck WB2EDV - Original Message - From: "Maire Company" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Wednesday, September 22, 2004 7:41 PM Subject: Re: [Repeater-Builder] weatherproof outdoor enclosure? > look for a traffic controller box. [Repeater-Builder] Re: weatherproof outdoor enclosure?
Just picked up 2 from a Traffic systems control company.. marine / aircraft grade aluminum (looks like stainless steel) and price here varied from $75 to $400 depending on condition and size. They told me that they get about $300 at the scrap yard for them as scrap. They are great, but most are less than 18 in deep so watch as some duplexers will need consideration. I opeted for a wider unit 30in so that I could work arounf it. Also they have filtered ventalation with fans and a light fixture to see at nite. So that should give you an idea of what the going price and features are like. Re: [Repeater-Builder] VHF Amplifier
Kevin and all, Thanks for the input on the VHF amplifier. I should have stated that I was looking at VHF 2 mtr. amplifiers. The system is up and running now with a TE Systems 1452RA since 1997 Duplexers are DB and are rated at 200 watts input. We have a dual antenna setup as well - Master II Repeater at 200 mw into a variable (1 to 10) driver amp. The TE Systems amplifier has been a workhorse, the only extra we have done is to add an RF bypass relay from TE. The 1452RA is rated at 360 output, and we ran it at 195 output so it was just loafing. Just wanted to get a feel for what other folks have had good luck with in their amplifiers. Thanks Jimmy Floyd NQ4U www.mtndx.org Yahoo!
