[Repeater-Builder] Rugged 2-meter beam
We are looking for a rugged 2-meter beam suitable for installation at the 300 foot level on a 500 foot broadcast tower. This will be uswed to link a 440MHz sytem to one on 2-meters about 80 miles away. Looking for suggestions for something more stout than the standard Cushcraft/Maxrad offerings. Any and all suggestions welocme. Thanks and 73, Kevin, K9HX Yahoo! Take aook at the Sinclair 206EB (end mounted beam) or or the SRL 250 which is designed to heavier icing and hoarfrost conditions occur. 73 John VE3AMZ. - Original Message - From: Kevin Berlen [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, October 11, 2004 8:11 PM Subject: [Repeater-Builder] Rugged 2-meter beam | | We are looking for a rugged 2-meter beam suitable for installation at the | 300 foot level | on a 500 foot broadcast tower. Re: [Repeater-Builder] Decibel Products DB224 Antenna - Elliptical Pattern?
Richard, The DB224 has only two standard patterns: omnidirectional and offset. My club has one of these antennas at a packet node, and it is ideal for this application. I should think that your DB224 would work perfectly in omni configuration, if it were located in the center of the coverage area. I'd contact the Decibel Products engineering staff for guidance, before modifying your antenna. If you feel it absolutely necessary to have an elliptical coverage pattern, one solution is to use two Yagi or corner reflector antennas back-to-back ON THE SAME MAST and fed with a phasing harness. If you separate the apexes by putting them on opposite sides of a tower (for example) you may experience destructive pattern distortion. However, although this is a viable solution on paper, like many things in life it often does not perform as expected and can become a black hole for money and effort! 73, Eric Lemmon WB6FLY Richard Marlin, Chief wrote: Dear group, I am sure this has been covered before with a new DB 224, what is the proper way to off set the elements ? A fellow ham told us, one one way one the other was wrong even though I have always seen them installed that way. He says the two bays on the same phasing harness should aim the same direction and then the two others, on the second harness should point the other way. Would someone please straighten us out? Re: [Repeater-Builder] replacement mini-uhf connector for Maxtrac
Don't bother - The mini-uhf's are not that hard to work with and easy to get. If yours is broken just get to a Motorola shop and order the replacement. You may even be able to order the part direct from Motorola. Otherwize, you would just end up spending time hacking the radio and gaining nothing but a different connector, and maybe a broken P.A. board. The other thing is - clearance with the heat-sink and the P.A board. Theres not alot of it on the connector for the maxtrac, and most other types of connectors would have less. If you must change it (If your an RF purist or something) then an SMA might be a viable option but they are not as easy to work with. Also, I dont think they are rated for much power - so one would have to be very careful with VSWR etc. or you would be looking for another connector again... Re: [Repeater-Builder] Rugged 2-meter beam
Regardless of your intended application, a good, heavy duty beam that you can rely on is a Sinclair. A Cushcraft is a huge waste of time and energy, in my opinion. By and large I've found all gamma matched beams to be poor performers - period. Re: [Repeater-Builder] Decibel Products DB224 Antenna - Elliptical Pattern?
Leave it omni and call it good. With that particular antenna in an omni configuration, it has 6 dB gain. Point all the elements in the same direction, you'll get 9 dB gain. So, the biggest change you can get is 3 dB. If we assume one would split the difference by aiming two elements in opposing directions, that would arguably be a 1.5 dB difference. You will never be able to tell the difference. Don't loose any more sleep over it. [Repeater-Builder] VHF PA Question
I have a Mastr ii 100 watt cont duty VHF PA I was given from a Mastr ii base. I don't have the exact part number of it but I'm looking for some general info on it if possible. What is the drive level required for 100 watt output? Does anyone know approx how much power it would put out with approx 30-50mw drive? TIA to all. Kevin K2KMB Yahoo!
