I have about 10 of what I think are BPR-2000's but I will have to
double-check the model #'s, etc as they have been re-labled. They were
part
of a lot of Minitor II's that I got surplus. Is 25$CAN for the lot plus
postage cheap?? If you were local they would be free, but, apparently the
paperwork to ship to the U.S. has become painfull. As a dubious bonus,
you
can even have some MX-300s's that were part of the same lot.

[Repeater-Builder] Mastr II Rx Freq Drift

2005-02-07 Thread Jamey Wright

I recently rebuilt my 440 repeater and got away from
the Mastr II mobile w/ tripler PA and went to a Mastr II Station. As a
part of the upgrade, I sent a set of 2C icoms to International Crystal and had
them recrystaled to my frequency. It has been on the air since the end of
December. When I first put in on, everything was great. After about
2 weeks, I couldnt get into it anymore. After some experimenting,
I found that if I tuned down from 449.325 (rx freq) to 449.310 I could bring it
up. Went back to the site with the service monitor and put it back on
frequency. That was 3 weeks ago. A few days ago, cant bring
up the repeater. I tried at 449.320. Bingo! There it is.

My question Is it normal for a
crystal to drift that much over the first month or so? I dont
remember having this problem before but its been a while. No, the
building is not climate controlled but is insulated very well and the
temperatures have been pretty mild around here lately.

Thanks

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Mastr II Rx Freq Drift

It is not normal for ICM re-stuffs to drift like that. I would suggest
checking and monitoring the comp line and the 10v reg supply. Both could
exert that much error on the FO that quickly... more likely suspect.

[Repeater-Builder] Repeater, service monitors and other stuff for sale

2005-02-07 Thread nickheiniger

Ham radio items for sale;

My father passed away about a year ago, he left me quite a collection
of electronic gear and radios.
I never really had too much of an interest in the radio or
electronics thing like my father did, so I never was licenced and now
I really have no use for the items. On top of things, the company
that I work for is promoting me but I have to re-locate. Rather than
haul this equipment across the country, stuff I dont use anyways,
I've decided to sell it to lighten the load. I had a yard sale, sold
a pile of the little items like mobile and hand held radios, tuners
antennas - even the tower sold. Some of the people that came by told
me to post the stuff on E-Bay, others mentioned yahoo groups and
others mentioned newsgroups. Since E-Bay charges an arm and a leg,
and I need to get this stuff out of here ASAP, I'll try the groups.

To make this stuff go quick because I don't have much time to mess
around with it, I've priced the stuff cheap to make a quick sale.
Also, I'm prefering to use Paypal rather than Money orders, just
because of the time issue.

As an added bonus, All items SHIP FREE with insurance and a tracking

[Repeater-Builder] Theory versus practice

2005-02-07 Thread Ken Arck

Hi folks

Imagine this scenario. 2 quality, UHF repeater colocated at the same site.
Both repeaters are higher power ( 50) out of duplexers, duplexers are
high quality BP/BR types. Here's the kicker - they're spaced 25 Khz away
from each other but not inverted from each other.

Now, theory is one thing as to the interference potential without resorting
to mulicouplers and combiners. But what is the real world problem
potential? Anyone want to take a stab at this one?

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Help! Need information

2005-02-07 Thread DCFluX

You need a COS signal of some sort from the radio. As an engineer I
recommend running the NHRC-2 in conjunction with a NHRC-Squelch. This
will take the RX data signal and give you a carrier detector without
any modifications to the radio. But you will need to make sure that
this RX data is unprocessed audio from the discriminator, in order
to get the high frequency that the squelch board desires. Check your
manual.

Then you would configure your NHRC-2 to de-emphasize the RX Data
audio as well, unless there is no processing done to the TX data
line, then you would not de-emphaize the audio, just run it through
the controller. Basicly if you got this far, experiment until it
doesn't sound Tinny.

Of course you could save the low cost of the NHRC squelch board and
reclaim one of the unused pins of the radio connector and find the
radios COS and give it to the controller, but this may void your
radios warenty.

 Hello folks,

I'm in need of some help. I have ordered an Alinco DR-135TMKII which
has a DB9 connector on the back for packet. I saw this site
 http://www.maxentropy.net/radio/amateur_radio.htm#top This person was
able to interface an NHRC 2 to the Yaesu FT1500M through the 6 pin
din plug on the back of the radio that is used for 1200 baud packet.

I would like to do the same thing except using an ALinco
Transceiver.I know I've been asked why would I use a new radio for a
simplex repeater instead of a good used rig. Well it's rather simple
I could use an older radio and interface it with the NHRC 2
controller, but I would not be able to use the micropone while it was
 connect to the controller.

With the new radio installed in my truck and controller conected to
the radio I could use the radio normally and when the controller is
needed just throw the switch and BINGO! emergency repeater.

Now I should mention that I plan to use the same model controller as
was used with the Yaesu FT1500M. The NHRC 2 has a DB9 connector also
and here is the pin out for the controller.

 Pin 1 ground
 Pin 2 13.8 volts
Pin 3 PTT ( active low)
 Pin 4 Tx audio
 Pin 5 RX audio
 Pin 6 CAS+
 Pin 7 CAS-
 Pin 8 gound/Tx audio
 Pin 9 ground/RX audio

Here are the pin out for the DB9 connector on the Alinco Transceiver.
These will also be through the 1200 baud connector set up.

 PINS 1,2,3,6,and 8 not connected
 Pin 4 RX data
 Pin 5 ground/sheild
 Pin 7 PTT
 Pin 9 Tx Data

So! Do you think I will be able to interface these two items together
and fuction as a simplex repeater as KE6DAX did with the Yaesu? I
hope so, because there is a need for such a device in my area in case
the local repeater is down and something is needed.

I'm also working on getting my own repeater up and running also so if
it ever goes down I'll be able to trun on the switch and BINGO!
temporary emergency repeater is active till I can get my repeater
 back into full service.

I'm serious about wanting to have an emergency back up repeater and
the simplex would be the answer to a problem .

Just check out my website http://home.earthlink.net/~kb4zgo/ and take
a look at the family photo of radio on my site.

Well enough of my ramblings. Please let me know what information you
have or suggestions thanks 73 de KB4zgo [EMAIL PROTECTED]

haul this equipment across the country, stuff I dont use anyways,
I've decided to sell it to lighten the load.

As an added bonus, All items SHIP FREE with insurance and a tracking
number. You pay just the amount of the item(s) you want.

So with that said, here is the list of items.

[Repeater-Builder] Re: Theory versus practice (close spaced transmitters)

2005-02-07 Thread skipp025

Hi Ken,

Shouldn't be a big problem if both repeaters have both
physical and electrical distance from each other. Both
would probably require dual port (min) circulators -
isolators and individual antennas with the mentioned
physical and electrical isolation.

The best option is a trade and also depends on
where you can put the antennas on the tower. You can
do it all on one antenna, but you'd be stuck with
using a hybrid and a net loss of 50% (min) power.

If you'd like the best receive option, duplex both
receivers off a top antenna with one transmitter.
Run a lower antenna for the second transmitter.

The frequency spacing would normally require a one
antenna hybrid, which eats about 50% of your power
into a termination or load port. Smart money would
just add a second antenna for the second transmitter.

cheers,
skipp

[Repeater-Builder] Re: Theory versus practice (close spaced transmitters)

2005-02-07 Thread Ken Arck

Thanks for the input, guys (Neil's butterfingers in dialing a phone number
notwithstanding!).

Yea, I definately want to avoid xmtr combiners if at all possible. The
closer the spacing of the ports, the more ridiculous the loss becomes, so
the 2nd xmt antenna option is much more attractive. I have plenty of
circulators laying around (not to mention one of the repeaters is a Micor
factory repeater, so it has a circulator already).

Anyway, we'll see how it goes and thanks again!

Tony,

You can download both the user and service manuals from the Alinco web site:

Bill - WB1GOT

[Repeater-Builder] TPL PA3-1FE-RXRF

2005-02-07 Thread Paul Finch

Hello,

Does anyone have any experience with a TPL PA3-1FE-RXRF, I have one that has
blown the transistors and the base balance resistors are burnt where I can't
read the values. They read 10 Ohms which is probably correct but would like
to replace them anyway.

There is also a base load resistor on one transistors that also burnt beyond
recognition, also need the value on that one.

The transistors are labeled:
MSC (top)
SD1018-06 (middle)
391N (bottom)

I have not looked for these transistors yet, can I find them at RF
Industries?

Thanks,
Paul

Although crystals do age a very small amount, it's not normal

For as much as ICM charges for crystals these days, you should
 have no

 Ham radio items for sale;

My father passed away about a year ago, he left me quite a
collection
 of electronic gear and radios.
I never really had too much of an interest in the radio or
electronics thing like my father did, so I never was licenced and
now
I really have no use for the items. On top of things, the company
that I work for is promoting me but I have to re-locate. Rather
than
haul this equipment across the country, stuff I dont use anyways,
I've decided to sell it to lighten the load. I had a yard sale,
sold
a pile of the little items like mobile and hand held radios, tuners
antennas - even the tower sold. Some of the people that came by
told
me to post the stuff on E-Bay, others mentioned yahoo groups and
others mentioned newsgroups. Since E-Bay charges an arm and a leg,
and I need to get this stuff out of here ASAP, I'll try
the groups.

To make this stuff go quick because I don't have much time to mess
around with it, I've priced the stuff cheap to make a quick sale.
Also, I'm prefering to use Paypal rather than Money orders, just
 because of the time issue.

As an added bonus, All items SHIP FREE with insurance and a
tracking
number. You pay just the amount of the item(s) you want.

So with that said, here is the list of items.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Theory versus practice

2005-02-07 Thread Eric Lemmon

Ken,

In some respects, it's better to have two high-power repeaters very
close in frequency, rather than more than 1 MHz apart.

Here's my real-life scenario: Two MTR2000 100 watt UHF stations, with
Decibel Products DB408L antennas about 12 feet apart. These are
elliptical-pattern dipole antennas, and both of their major lobes are
facing in the same direction, with their minor lobes looking at each
other. The transmit and receive frequencies are 150 kHz apart between
the two repeaters, and the TX-RX split is the standard 5 MHz. Both
MTR2000 stations come standard with a single circulator, but I am adding
a Telewave high performance repeater panel to each machine. This
comprises a four-cavity bandpass/bandreject duplexer, a dual isolator,
and a dual 8-inch cavity bandpass filter in front of a GaAsfet
preamplifier.

The key to making this work is that the notching inherent in each
repeater's duplexer is just wide enough that it greatly attenuates the
TX carrier from the other repeater, if it is close enough, and the
bandpass cavities ensure that nothing remains to desense the receiver-
even with the preamp. The interfering signal from another repeater is a
lot easier to eliminate when it comes over 12 feet of air, than when it
is in the same coaxial cable. The triple circulators will prevent
intermodulation between the transmitters. Besides, the primary reason
for having two repeaters, two duplexers, and two antennas is to make
them separate and completely redundant. The last thing in the world I
want to do is to invest in a transmitter combiner, where I throw away
half of the power from each transmitter, and now have single points of
failure (the antenna, the feedline, the hybrid and the hybrid's dummy
load) in a position that can bring down both repeaters.

My installation may be unusual, but the design rule from the git-go was
that there must not be any shared components between the two repeaters.
The rule calls for separate solar panels, charge controllers, battery
racks, antenna masts, etc.

A few years ago, I personally dismantled a Government radio system that
was once used for the Space Shuttle program at Vandenberg AFB, which
program was later canceled. There were eight 100 watt Micor VHF
repeaters combined into one transmit antenna, with the eight receivers
being fed from a multicoupler connected to a separate receive antenna.
I tested every component after removal, and I found that three of the
four 150 watt dummy loads- absolutely CRITICAL components in this
combining scheme- were open! It also happens that I was one of the
military users of this radio system at the time (mid 80's), and I
remember that it never measured up to my expectations for coverage. No
wonder; the great mismatch caused by the open loads was making the Micor
PAs go into SWR shutdown, and one PA burned up. Instead of 12.5 watts,
only 1 or 2 watts was making it to the single antenna. It is ironic
that the cause of this system's demise lay abandoned and gathering dust
for 15 years until it was discovered purely by accident!
