That's the nice thing about HAM - no TA to worry about. Of course, it's
a double-edged sword, as you have people running deviation too high and
interfering with adjacent channels. You can't do much about them legally
- especially if they are just users.

I'll bet there are still a hand full of G strips & A strips on the air. I
know of one city government that uses a G strip to receive weather braodcasts
on their 800 MHz trunked radio system. There are a few people who believe
that there was never a better receiver for high intermod locations than the
hi-band A receiver with the "stove-pipe" properly tuned.

I have a friend that has a backup Compa Station for his 2 meter repeater, at
least until he tried to bring it up the last time and it had died dead.
Guess after around 50 or so years it deserves retirement. By the way, his
main repeater is a High Band 1/4 K Motrac vintage machine.

IWCE is next month... anyone here going
besides me?

Skipp has no problem putting anything related to
radio or electronics (and some other subjects)
on the sonic page of the radiowrench.com web site.

I even plan on restoring my original Dos
Laptop Computer OS, Toshiba and Digital
HiNote VP laptop web pages. I won't be restoring
the Kewet Electric Cars pages (I sold the cars
off).

You make up something for the Vocaline Radios and
I'll put it up. That pretty much goes out to any
of you. I've got lots of cheap bandwidth.

well if the unit can not be used as a repeater or it can that should be a
part of repeaters also.

we got a number of Micors still in operation (6) , and as long as we have
them out there working this would be a good think to know. We have been
changing them to Kenwood TKR-840 but still have more to go. Any one need
any Micor repeaters UHF or parts let me know.
thanks for the info.

Steve,

Not sure what engineering company you work for, but you might want to
revisit the theory behind Downtilt with exposed dipole antennas (Binary
Fed) (Corporate Fed). Vertical spacing of the elements on the
supporting mast has little or nothing to do with the vertical beam
pattern. Horizontal spacing of the elements from the supporting mast
will vary the terminal impedance of that bay.

The phasing harness is what creates tilt of the vertical beam pattern.
The harness legs are cut so each successive bay is fed slightly more out
of phase with respect to the one below or above it, depending on which
direction you want to skew the pattern (up or down) and how much (in
degrees).

Also realize that Downtilt Cut antenna only performs to its
specifications on the frequency in which it was made for. Since
frequency is the determining factor of how many degrees of variance in
cable lengths perform the operation of a specific downtilt number,
changing the applied frequency also changes the amount of downtilt.

I commonly use 460.xxx MHz. fiberglass antennas (stationmaster type) on
my high mountain sites for UHF Ham repeaters. They 'automatically' give
downtilt when used on a 440 repeater pair.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Inside a Flag pole Tower

2005-03-05 Thread Joe

It should work, but do not skip on any of the antenna system
components. Maintenance on a flagpole site can be a nightmare and very
expensive. The last one I got involved in required a crane, man-basket,
and ended up in an OSHA fine. This was just to replace some defective jumpers.

Who is going to be responsible for future maintenance work on the UHF antennas?
