They appear to be identical to the "Hameg" brand which I occasionally use at work. They do work, though the frequency calibration is essentially non-existent & there is no absolute amplitude calibration. The amplitude linearity & flatness w.r.t. frequency is pretty good, so they should be good for measuring spectral purity. Only 2 resolution bandwidths available, 20 & 400 kHz, so forget about any NBFM bandwidth measurements. Bob NO6B Yahoo! They sometimes spend more on a controller that talks and makes fancy beeps, but buy crappy duplexers. The size of the cavities are just as important as the number. 6 inch diameter is the minimum, in my opinion, and will take at least 6 cans to work well. Once you go to 8 or 10 inch diameter, you can get away with 4 cans. Another consideration is what other rf systems are at your site. I was able to use 4 small cans at my house, but they would never work at a high RF level site. Look for BP/BR (bandpass/band rejec)t duplexers, but there may be other combinations of cans that are available. I have a set of Wacom duplexers that are a combination of BP/Br and bandpass. > > 2. [Repeater-Builder] GE Mastr II UHF PLL Exciter
Here are a few questions for the senior RF/GE guys. Referencing the GE Mastr II VHF PLL Exciter, does anyone know how fast the /4 divider will operate to? Does anyone know how high the harmonic amplifier and phase detector will operate at? I have seen some references that people have these operating at 222 MHz, but I'm curious if the /4 divider will operate to 450 MHz and the phase detector will operate to 112.5 MHz. Anyone have any knowledge on this? Thanks, Chris N5IUF YAHOO! GROUPS LINKS Visit your group "Repeater-Builder" on the web. RE: [Repeater-Builder] New Repeater--Need Advice!
JR, Don't knock the Kenwood just because "it's not a big Motorola box"... I used to run a Motorola MSR2000 and recently put a Kenwood TKR-820 on the air to replace it. (The MSR2000 was a "problem child" I inherited...) The Kenwood has been a very good "fit" for us and is operating flawlessly. It does take a bit of effort to get all the bugs worked out, but so does almost every other repeater project. My county EMA also funds our operation - they provide all the primary equipment, site, and support (electrical, etc.) needs for the repeater; and the ham club (Plainfield Radio League) obtained the frequency coordination. It's great when the government and the ham community can work together, isn't it?? We are using a CAT-300 controller for our repeater. This gives us the ability to have voice ID, autopatch, remote control/administration, etc. (We are not using the autopatch though, simply because there is no telephone service to the site yet.) Cost was reasonable - this might be an option you'd want to consider. And it interfaces fairly easily to the Kenwood... Don't apologize for being a "repeater novice" - we all were novices at one time or another, and I still consider myself a novice. :-) Good luck in your endeavor, and if you're in the Joliet, IL area, try the WW9AE 444.550 (+ offset, PL 114.8) repeater. [Repeater-Builder] Thanks for the Micor 220
Hello Everyone from Don KA9QJG, I would Like to Give a Big Thanks to Scott, Who has been very busy, But took time to Build My 224.740 Micor repeater, I got it Yesterday and it was Plug and Play, I had a RF engineer Ham Friend come over and He put it on the Motorola Service Monitor. Told me to turn down the Gain for checking the Receiver, I already had it down all the way and still heard it. He Listened to the Incoming and out going audio and was amazed it Was Identical, Stated it was the Best He had ever heard. It is Fun trying to do this ourselves only if We have the Knowledge and the Right Equipment, But It is also Great to Have it done with the Knowledge of Kevin, Scott and Many others on this Group, also putting things sometimes in Layman Language so all can understand it, I Just wanted to say a Big Thank You to all and wish Everyone a Very Safe and Prosperous New Year PS If Anyone gets around the Hammond In. area Get on 224.740 131.8 and Say Hello If the Repeater dos not hear you it is Your Radio not the Big M Micor Ha Ha 73 De Don KA9QJG Yahoo! Six cavity pack would be ideal, but a "four pack" will probably work just fine at 50 watts. (don't use a preamp). Try to get as high quality of an antenna as you can for the system, and stay as far away from RG 8 or times LMR 400 as you can. (1/2" hardline for runs up to about 100 feet or so). You will avoid a lot of noise problems and trips to the site by doing it right. The jumpers from your cavities to your transmitter, and receiver should be double shielded RG 214, or RG 142. Use only N-type connectors if you can. >2. Does anyone have a set of cavities we can find cheap? What's the >best bet for cavities--size, number, etc. > > > EBAY is a good place to start looking. These units will all help you remain legal (FCC Standards) by allowing you to set up, maintain control, and properly identify your station. Re: [Repeater-Builder] New Repeater--Need Advice!
Jim, 1) For VHF, I'm guessing that you are running a 600khz split? If so at 48watts out of the transmitter, you want at least four (4) , base station type, band-pass/band-reject cavities to avoid desense. TX/RX systems makes a great 4 cavity duplexer for vhf but if you could find a good condition Telewave, WACOM, or CelWave that would be fine as well. Any more than 50watts in the future and you may need extra cavities. 2) Instead of hooking in a plain id'er to the repeater, I would check out some of the cheap repeater controllers that are available. Micro Computer Concepts for a little over $100 makes two different ones. They ID and give you remote control over the repeater as well as some tail and some simple courtesy beeps. There are others, but I have had good luck with his. Andy KC2GOW Yahoo! Shopping Find Great Deals on Holiday Gifts at Yahoo! Shopping YAHOO! [Repeater-Builder] Re: Mitrek 70CM problem
Good thought. The repeater was taken up there pre-installed in a cabinet with all the wiring in place (i.e. jumpers). All that had to happen was hook up feedline and plug it in. You may have a very good point. The antenna and feedline have been there several years. --- In Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com, Kevin Custer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Scott wrote: > > >Well, here is the setup, and the problem: > > > >Setup: > >Moto Mitek trunk mobile on 70CM with CAT 250 controller, and control > >head intact (mic disconnected).
