[Repeater-Builder] R100 Help

2008-05-21 Thread David
Can anyone answer me a few questions. I had posted on radio programming
group and no straight forward answers came back. I just aquired a R100
repeater. I am familiar with moto software but have not found all the
info that I was hoping to find. First question, programming, from what
I can tell, since there is no version for the programming, does
the "RADMBL" rss work on this unit? Second question, the programming
cable kits listed on moto rss lists, say that the cable for RLN4008,
radio cable kit is the same part numbers for all they usual maxtrac,
m100, GM series radios. So my question is this, will one of those cheap
knock off ribless cables for GM/Maxtrac work on this. I have a, RLN4008
but no cable yet for this R100 because batlabs lists a schematic for
programming and not the usual, off the 25 pin from RIB. I have seen a
ribless cable listed on ebay for the R100 but am reluctant to order it
unless I need to or if someone has gotten one and it really works on
it. If you can, reply to me off line if you have worked with these
please at n1roa at yahoodot com.

[Repeater-Builder] Need help IDing Celwave filter

2008-05-21 Thread kk2ed
I have a Celwave filter PN 9182510Y17 MFG date of 2/4/00

It is about 10"x10" square and 1" high, and has SMA connectors, one
on each side (left/right), and 9 flat-head tuning screws in the
front (just like the ones on the small 50w duplexers).

It was brand new in the wrapper when I found it. I swept it on my
tracking generator, and it looked to be some sort of window filter,
centered at 390MHz or so. I attempted to retune it to the 444MHz
range, as I need a filter in front of a preamp at a repeater site to
clean up some interference from a T-Band system.

I was able to retune it to provide a nice curve at 444MHz with about
2db insertion loss, and about 50db down at 460MHz. It also looks
like it has one or two notches to the high side, so I could notch
out a particular 470 frequency if needed.

The strange thing (why I'm posting) is the tuning behavior. Of the
nine tuning screws, counting them 1-9 from left to right, screws 1,
5, and 9 all seem to adjust the passband center freq, screws 3 and 7
seem to adjust what appears to be two notches (or one if I "pull"
them together), and screws 2,4,6, and 8 seem to do nothing at all.

Anyone have any ideas as to exactly what kind of filter this thing
is, and how to properly tune it?

As it stands right now, based on how it plots on my 8920's tracking
generator, it looks like it should make a halfway decent filter for
in front of a preamp, but I'd like to tune it properly if I can
figure out how and what kind of filter it was designed to be.

Thanks
Eric

Re: [Repeater-Builder] How much drive power for Micor HD PA ??

2008-05-21 Thread Steve Kometz
Not sure what you mean by 12? watt PA.
But in any case the Micor VHF hi exciters are supposed to be 400 milliwatts
out.
So, if you want to drive any of the Micor PA'S with 350 mw, it should be fine.
In my experience, nearly always you can get the rated output with 250 mw
drive.
Keep in mind that usually Motorola installed a small bandpass filter between
the exciter and PA to keep harmonics, etc down.
And that little harmonic filter had some loss.
So, 250 to 350 mw should be plenty.

What do you mean 'routing it through one of the groups'? I'm not positive,
but when the holder of our club call moved, I think he just had to go into
ULS and request the changes to the mailing address. I'll ask him when I
talk to him again, but I remember him saying he had a problem only because

Re: ham websites (was: Re: [Repeater-Builder]part 97.201 was Control Link)

2008-05-21 Thread Wayne
  That explains it pretty well.
Any time there is something like that, I would normally put a link to it
on one of my web sites.
I am aware that part 97 does change, as well as other parts of the rules.
Of course, some people are so far behind that the code being dropped has
not come to their attention yet, ha ha ha.
I will admit that some of my web sites need updating, and have started on
parts of them.
I was keeping a database of 2 meter repeaters in Northern California, but
got behind on that after I moved the first time. Plan to try and set one
up for Texas now, but using the information from the coordinators web site
(need to resolve reading parts of their current database, as it gets
partly obscured by another frame (I hate using frames myself, seldom do)
so don't see the tones and a bit of other information)...
I see some web pages with such terrible text and background colors that
one cannot read the text unless highlighted.
I make most of mine so that virtually any browser can view it, and only
use limited Javascripting.
I have even set up some pages with an autorefresh, as some browsers tend
to use cached pages unless you do a manual refresh.
Gotta go catch up on more emails. Bad enough I get behind, but the power
went out last night.
