RE: [Repeater-Builder] Re: Maxtrac Channel Control
Hey Steve, thanks for all your valuable information. I am still working on my project, I am using a CAT controller to give me the earth for Channel select on the Motorola Radio from a remote DTMF command, I will let you know how it works out. Do you have a private E Mail address or phone number? Our controller give us a hex output via 4 output pins. These 4 pins will be connected to pins 6,8,9, and 12 on the Gm300. This will give us selection of 9 of the 16 channels, enough for our needs! This will allow us to link to the primary 2M repeater in OUR county, plus 1 in each of the 7 surrounding counties, plus 1 simplex channel. Remember, you will need at least 2 pins grounded to make a channel, so some of the hex outputs will not work. When the correct DTMF access code is entered, followed by a number or letter, it translates it into hex and outputs it via the 5 pins, and latches that way. Even if power is lost, it will revert to the last know state. We will be using this to steer the GM300 via the drawing in the .pdf file I uploaded in the files section, look for the ch-sel file. I will program the GM300 and make a list of how to use it and distribute to the users. For example, entering the correct DTMF acces code, followed by a 3 would give you an output of 0011 in hex. This equates to channel 12 on the GM300. Here is how it all works out. It's not perfect, but I have an older controller that does not support direct control of radios, and it gives me control of 9 channels, more than enough for my needs! DTMF Digit Hex Output GM300 Channel 0 1 (all outputs off, reverts to front panel control, which would be set to Ch1, the home channel) 3 0011 12 5 0101 10 6 0110 6 7 0111 14 9 1001 9 A 1010 5 B 1011 13 C 1100 3 Hope this is what you were looking for. Our controller has a 4 pin hex output that I think could do the necessary stuff to make it work, just not sure about how it needs hooked to the radio. Has anyone done something similiar to this? In fact there are defined tests for real world performance of the various formats [with the exception of the amateur D-Star format] The commercial land mobile industry has great interest in understanding the operational characteristics of all of the current and emerging formats and protocols, including how each performs in the real world - on its own and while sharing the spectrum with other systems of the same or different formats. Re: [Repeater-Builder] Re: D-Star (Protocol and Repeaters)
Dear sirs, Thank very much for the information. Yes, it is difficult to say which one will better than other. For me/my team we get intend to know more on it before start the project. I heard a story that some where police digital radio system use TDMA format. Syetem Planed 1,xxx sites for full out door coverage . As the result it is double the site. They tried to increase the R.F power output. The field strength increase ,but only a bit change. It is because the TDMA format time slot overlap by distance multi path. Increased R.F Power seems result a lot of side band noise up to Ham Band, hi hi! Back to the Ham digital voice repeater ,due mode is a must . So D-star seems not matchat the moment, but its setup cost within our target. Second hand Mototrbo also meet the budget. But it is TDMA format. P25 cost a lot no ham use here. The above a my personal point of views ,we intend to find out / select and paln the next project. Digital Ham Repeater . Any suggestion comment are welcomes. [Repeater-Builder] 2 Meter Repeater Duplexer . . .

Any information will be very much appreciated. Thanks! Lot / k6irf
Re: [Repeater-Builder] 2 Meter Repeater Duplexer . . .
[Repeater-Builder] Re: 2 Meter Repeater Duplexer . . .
Lot, The specification sheet for this duplexer shows 70 db of isolation. That may not quite be enough. I have a Q2330E which Sinclair claims 85 db of isolation. I was able to carefully tune the duplexer to obtain 91 db of isolation at 147.280/147.880. With a 75 Watt Micor repeater station and factory Motorola preamp I have no measurable desense. When I tried a ARR preamp I had 2.5 - 3 db of densense, so went to the factory Micor preamp which has a little less gain. I much prefer to sacrifice a little sensitivity to eliminate densense. I am not all that familiar with what your VXR repeater needs for isolation but I think 70 db is going to be a problem even if you run pretty low power. You could also add some additional cavities between the transmitter and receiver ports to the duplexer to increase your overall isolation.
