[Repeater-Builder] Kenwood TKR-850 UHF Repeater System for Sale

2009-05-12 Thread Anthony Mikulastik
I have a Kenwood TKR-850 UHF Repeater System that is currently in use that will
be available for sale in a few days. It has a set of full size DB Products
duplexers which fit in a 19 inch rack as does the repeater. The repeater
system has been in service for 5 years with no down time. Programming cable
and software is also available. This is a current production uhf repeater
system which will work in GMRS, Amateur, and Business bands. The repeater is
currently in Amateur operation but can be easily retuned by any 2-way shop to
your frequency or I can get it tuned to your frequency at our local shop.

Plug and play system with switching power supply shipped in Continental US is
$1350. Add $50 if I have the local shop program and tune duplexers. Call
Anthony at 254-493-8595.

telco
connector on the rear and having the Wildcard option installed

Also as NJ902 says, if your are wanting to pass or do P25 you use

You cannot replace the Quantar's internal controller which is
necessary for the station to operate, however, you can interface
the
Quantar to external devices such as a CAT controller. That way
you
can get features that the Quantar does not have such as voice
ID's,
courtesy tones, announcements and so on.

There is a tab in the Quantar service manual called System
Applications that shows how to make the connections for PTT,
COR, Rx
 and Tx audio.

To do this, the Quantar must have a wireline interface board
installed.

This also presumes that you are talking about analog only
operation.
If you want to do P25 digital or mixed-mode operation, you will
require a DIU3000 to host the interface to an axternal controller.

[Repeater-Builder] Stumped.. Need help with problem.

2006-03-21 Thread Anthony L .Ferguson
Greetings!

I'm stumped with something and hopefully with the aid of others I'll
be able to get this projected completed. This project belongs to
another who is very interested in repeaters and helping the community
in case of an emergency.
The owner has taken C.E.R.T. training and wishes to add to the
already existing communciation system in place by my self and others
who are Amateur Radio Operators and who own amateur repeaters.

The project is a message store and forward system for a Motorola
Maxar 80 UHF transciever. The controller that was purchased is an
NHRC 3+ with a simplex controller mode option , which is the main
reason for the purchase.

The transciever has already been recrystaled for usage in the GMRS
Band. The owner has paid for the GMRS license.

With all the History behind me. Here we go.

The transciever has been modified so connection could be done to a
patch panel or controller.
1) Green -PTT
2) Grey - Ground
3) Orange -Delayed PTT
4) Brown - Mic Audio
5) Red - Discriminator Audio
6) Yellow - PL disable
7) Blue - Reciever PL detect Line
8) Shield - Grnd Radio Chassis

This is the information given by NHRC for the NHRC3+ controller.

12 the same +13.8 volts
3) CAS + carrier activated squelch
4) Fan control ( not used )
5) PTT active Low
6) Ground
7) Tx audio to Txmitter
8) Ground / Tx Audio Return
9) Rx Audio (From reciever)
10) Ground / Rx audio Return

Basically I'm trying to get the radio wired up to the controller so
the simplex repeater option can be used for the non Amateurs in the
area in case of an emergency ..

I have some of these figured out .. but need help figuring what goes
where ?? I'm asking, Please assist Thanks in advanced.

[Repeater-Builder] Help! Need information

2005-08-06 Thread Anthony L .Ferguson
Good Morning!

I hope someone can tell me or help guide me in the right direction
for some information.

I've recently placed a repeater on the air and need help with
something small. I best give all the details of my repeater as the
type etc.

The repeater is a converted mobile GE MASTER II UHF 440 Mhz
MC65KKG88B or ( BROWN HANDLE MODEL), I have a NHRC 3/M2 controller
and also the NHRC VSQ unit installed .

I have a wiring harness that plugs into the main body of the radio. I
don't need a control head with the controller installed internaly.
What I'm looking for is some information so I can bring the audio
connection to the out side of the repeater and loose most of the
control head harness minus the audio leads for the speaker connection.

Simply put, I want to get rid of some of the bulky wiring and have
only what I need out side the repeater.

I will post some pictures of both my simplex repeater and duplex
repeater on the site.

Please! any information or guide me to where I can find this
information would be a big help. Thank you. 73 de KB4ZGO/Tony

[Repeater-Builder] Help! Need information

2005-02-06 Thread Anthony L .Ferguson

Hello folks,

I'm in need of some help. I have ordered an Alinco DR-135TMKII which
has a DB9 connector on the back for packet. I saw this site
http://www.maxentropy.net/radio/amateur_radio.htm#top This person was
able to interface an NHRC 2 to the Yaesu FT1500M through the 6 pin
din plug on the back of the radio that is used for 1200 baud packet.

I would like to do the same thing except using an ALinco
Transceiver.I know I've been asked why would I use a new radio for a
simplex repeater instead of a good used rig. Well it's rather simple
I could use an older radio and interface it with the NHRC 2
controller, but I would not be able to use the micropone while it was
connect to the controller.

With the new radio installed in my truck and controller conected to
the radio I could use the radio normally and when the controller is
needed just throw the switch and BINGO! emergency repeater.

Now I should mention that I plan to use the same model controller as
was used with the Yaesu FT1500M. The NHRC 2 has a DB9 connector also
and here is the pin out for the controller.

Pin 1 ground
Pin 2 13.8 volts
Pin 3 PTT ( active low)
Pin 4 Tx audio
Pin 5 RX audio
Pin 6 CAS+
Pin 7 CAS-
Pin 8 gound/Tx audio
Pin 9 ground/RX audio

Here are the pin out for the DB9 connector on the Alinco Transceiver.
These will also be through the 1200 baud connector set up.

PINS 1,2,3,6,and 8 not connected
Pin 4 RX data
Pin 5 ground/sheild
Pin 7 PTT
Pin 9 Tx Data

So! Do you think I will be able to interface these two items together
and fuction as a simplex repeater as KE6DAX did with the Yaesu? I
hope so, because there is a need for such a device in my area in case
the local repeater is down and something is needed.

I'm also working on getting my own repeater up and running also so if
it ever goes down I'll be able to trun on the switch and BINGO!
temporary emergency repeater is active till I can get my repeater
back into full service.

I'm serious about wanting to have an emergency back up repeater and
the simplex would be the answer to a problem .

Just check out my website http://home.earthlink.net/~kb4zgo/ and take
a look at the family photo of radio on my site.

Well enough of my ramblings. Please let me know what information you
have or suggestions thanks 73 de KB4zgo [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[Repeater-Builder] Help!

2005-01-08 Thread Anthony L .Ferguson

Hello Folks,

I know it has been a while since I've posted any news of my simplex
repeater project. I have obtained 6 Motorola Mitrek transceivers with
the control cable and control head. I have plenty of channel elements
and having them recrystaled will not be an issue either. Bomar or
International Crystal will be my choices.

Now, I need help with something and I'm sure someone knows how to
solve my problem, so here is the issue. I tried to test the Mitreks
radios to see if they worked . I had the cable pins correctly placed
in the control head, each pin were numbered so I don't think I
screwed that up. I had the positive and negative wires hooked to the
power supply with plenty of voltage at 13.8volt DC.

I had the radio hooked to a dummy load in case of the radio
transmitted, Power was getting to the radio by checking the internal
power leads from the control cable. I pressed the PTT on the
microphone and nothing happend. I did noticed that no power was
getting to the control head, so I looked for a fuse nothing inside
blown. I thought that the microphone might be messed up so I don't
know it might be ?

Then a friend mentioned that I would have to fool the radio or bypass
something to make the radio appear to get 12 volts DC from the
ignition. He mentioned about heating some pins and doing something
like that on the inside to get the radio to tansmit. Anyone have any
Idea what I need to do??

Now for the other news, I have plans for the purchase of a full
duplex repeater on 440 Mhz , so don't think I am getting cold feet HI
HI.

I'm slow working on this project but at least I'm not stopping with
my plans. I should also say, I'm no the only one helping me either,
there are a few others helping , so I don't want to take all the
credit for this I'm not a glory hound.

So, if anyone has any information please let me know.
Thanks DE KB4ZGO

[Repeater-Builder] Equipment suggestions- Help!

2004-12-01 Thread Anthony L .Ferguson

Greetings,

I would like to enlist suggestions from the group for help. I have a
project on my mind and has been bothering me for a while. In the area
I live there is a need of a simplex repeater. I know that the term
SIMPLX REPEATER is not a true repeater, but a message store and
forwarding device using either a carrier operated relay (COR) or
carrier operated squelch (COS) controller.

My Ideal suggestion for a controller is either the BD VA10 or the
NHRC 3+ controller. The controller is the brains of the entire
system, allowing analog information to be stored on the ISD chip then
dumping the stored information to the transmiter. The controller is
needed for CWID to be legal on the ham bands.

Now with that all behind us on the controller.I would like some
suggestion on types of commerical radio gear that may be easily
converted to 2 meters or 440 Mhz.

I see Ebay is flooded with all types of stuff that looks like it
should work for my project. I see listings for GE Phoenix mobile
radios, GE master Excutive II , Delta and Ranger. I don't want to
stop with just GE so I must include Motorola also.

I'm confused on something, and hopefully someone will guide me in the
right direction. I'm not sure which is needed to complete my Simplex
repeater station, minus the controller. I see all the stuff listed on
EBAY from GE and Motorola like transceiver and repeaters. Which do I
need ? The transceiver or the repeater or both?

I simply want to know my options before I start digging in my wallet.
I know the controller is first and that is my goal first.

I think that commerical gear would be the best choice due to it being
built a bit better to handle the load of usage while in service to
the community.

The pro's and con's of typical ham gear compared to commerical gear.
Most normal ham gear now has CTCSS encode and decode built into them
now . The commerical gear may have to have a tone board installed
plus recrystalled and retuned for usage. I think I have answered part
of my own question. HI! :)

So, I think I have answered my question about what is needed to
complete the simplex repeater project. I need a transceiver; I hope
to find a transceiver that has good power out put. I have seen a few
listed on Ebay having high power . In the worst case I can install an
amplifer into the system.

I hope I have figured out or solved my issues regarding this project.
If not I hope that someone will guide me into the right direction. I
know there are many bright minds in the group . Please correct me or
guide me in the right direction.

Thanks 73 de KB4ZGO

[Repeater-Builder] New to the group!

2004-11-28 Thread Anthony L .Ferguson

Hello Everyone,

My callsign is KB4ZGO. I would like to run an Idea of mine past the
group. My idea is like the TV show Monstor garage I would like to
build a large size simplex repeater. I know it can be built!

I know Radio Shack had a COS device called a simplex repeater
controller. This device was very simple , it could be connected to a
handheld radio and then become a simplex repeater. My Idea would be
something like this but on a larger scale.

I have looked around at different controllers and thought that the
NHRC-3-90 would be a good choice for such a controller. True this
item being retired, I'm sure once I have figured what all is need to
construct this Large size simplex repeater I will contact them for
the price of construction.

Now! I would like to ask help from the group for suggestion on
equipment and controllers to make my little project come to life.

Please don't hold back the suggestions , I have an open mind and True
I know I will get some feed back telling me I am off my rocker! Hey!
that is alright! At least I'm still using my mind and experimenting !

Thanks 73 de KB4ZGO

[Repeater-Builder] New to the group!

2004-11-27 Thread Anthony L .Ferguson

Hello My call sign is KB4ZGO . I have a project in mind and would
like to run my idea past the group. I am familiar with somethings and
not with others, so I may get some help or suggestions from the group.

I would like to build a simplex repeater on either 2 meters or 440Mhz.
I have looked at several controlers from NHRC and Hamtronics and
found that it is possible to configure a simplex repeater using
something like The NHRC-3-90 which is retired . Using the NHRC-3-90
controler with a GE Master Executive II or simular equipment from
Motorola can be done . I would like to know if anyone could suggest
any other equipment that could be used ?

I know that Radio shack had a simplex COS simplex repeater unit years
ago and has been discontinued. Those little units were mainly used
for hand held equipment.I would like to build at MONSTOR simplex
repeater using a COS controller and some type of high power
transceiver to work with the controler.

I know it may sound dumb or stupid but heck I's still experimenting !
hi hi! thanks 73 de KB4ZGO
