Re: [Repeater-Builder] Weird Kerchuking Problem
Hi My 2 cents worth Are you using a PL code which is harmonically related to the AC line freq? i.e. 123.0 or 179.9 ? An earlier respondent suggested changing the PL and I concur with this as a good test. Every so often (several times in 10 minutes) we are getting a key up of our repeater. Here is what we know... There is no signal coming in on the input frequency. No even a small spike. It is almost like something in the set up is timing and keying, but it is not an exact interval. Doesn't matter is RX tone is enabled in the CAT or not. Here is the setup... Motorola Mitrek trunk mount on 443.275, CAT 250 controller, Com-Spec TS64DS tone board. It has a good 300W 3 can duplexer that is tuned correctly and working well. 75Amp power supply. The cabinet also has an APRS rig in it, as well as a remote receiver for another repeater, and a link radio, but NONE of that is even turned on (and doesn't make a difference when it is). Suggestions as to what to look for...? Yahoo! Groups Links Yahoo! Re: [Repeater-Builder] Help, repeater output heard on Aircraft Band
HI Matt A few things to look at: Output purity of the repeater Possible addition of some higher Q cavities to reduce sideband noise etc. ( an isolator ahould be on the TX output prior to the duplexer or output cavity/antenna ) Check proximity to the RCAG site where the QRM is getting in to the FAA's radio ( if this is the case ). Maybe an inspection for dissimilar metals - non-linear junctions near the Repeater ant. which may be generating some products. If the FAA heard the bad audio guy only maybe his transmitter(s) is/are overdeviating. Ocasionally we get this type of call from an Entity claiming some interference from a comercial repeater of ours which when checked is usually attributed to some finite failure of a mobile etc. Anyway a few ideas - - - - good luck Ed K9QPJ Com/Rad Inc. Des Plaines, IL - Original Message - From: Mathew Quaife [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com Sent: Friday, June 17, 2005 10:10 PM Subject: [Repeater-Builder] Help, repeater output heard on Aircraft Band I need some input, not critisism or what I should do, as I know what to do. The other night a user was on the system, his audio was extremely bad into the system, his wife used the same radio and her audio was just as bad. All other users of the system sounded just fine. Two days later he received a phone call from the FAA stating his transmission could be heard on 135.92 if I remember what he told me, as he did not email me the frequency. At any rate, this evening I did some test with my mobile Icom 706 about 3 miles from the repeater. Having a few users carry on a conversation, I could hear the output of the repeater at 132.750 to 132.850, most output at 132.800 Mhz. In the FM mode, voice was detected, but distorted, in the AM mode, voice was very intelligle, as was the repeater id'er. From what I was told, the FAA informant advised he could hear a conversation, but was able to pick out the audio of the user with the bad audio, for which at the time, we was trying to isolate his audio problem. Other than taking the repeater down, which is what will happen here very shortly to prevent interference with Aviation, what might be happening? Any thoughs or suggestions. It will not be until Sunday that I can get to look at the system on the SA. Thanks. Mathew W9MWQ Yahoo! Groups Links Yahoo! The business license would be in the name of the family farm. I know that not everyone inmy family is interested in radio enough to become a ham, but would definitely own a radio if they could communicate reliably. Cell phones are horrible. I do not want to use GMRS frequencies for three reasons: I am not impressed with the policing of the GMRS frequencies. Anyone can get a GMRS radio, and the line between GMRS and FRS and CB seems to be very blurry. I don't want my mom to be the one listening when someone starts being rude on our frequency. Reason two is that I want to be able to hook up a phone patch. This is strictly forbidden in GMRS. Reason three is the "type acceptance" rule that prohibits several quality radios from being used in GMRS. My questions: What kind of cost am I looking at for a repeater pair license? Does each user need a separate license? cost per user? Can I do the research and find a frequency pair myself, or do I have to go through a coordinator? (if so, what does that cost?) We are looking for a vendor who has something that will decode quick repetitions of PTT. Explained another way - in a tone remote the first tone is a high level guard tone followed by a high level control tone and then by low-level guard tone ( ptt tone ). this represets a "packet".
