Randy and others,

Check out the PDF index on the supporting
website:

I have reciently added some 6M conversion
information. I have not used this personally, but it did come from the sinclair
factory. It's a bitvague, but you might be able to make some sense of
it.Enjoy.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] ArGoSoft Mailing List Server - fixed?

2003-12-14 Thread Scott Zimmerman
Fellows,

I think I fixed it. Someone subscribed a list to the repeater-builder list.
I have set that e-mail account to NO E-MAIL. That should take care of it

Re: [Repeater-Builder] PL/CTCSS Filter

2003-11-21 Thread Scott Zimmerman
The mitrek uses a type of passive filter. It's more of a shunt to ground
type of filter rather than a series element. If you look at the PL board
schematic closely, you will see where it connects through pin 7 to the
radio. The schematic notes (all of the theory of operation we have in this
case) says that it is a gyrator, a simulated inductance, that resonates with
a .1uF cap to produce a notch at 180Hz. I never found them to work the best,
but there is a kind of filter there. If anyone can tell us a more advanced
theory behind how this type of circuit works, I think we (or at least *I*)
might learn something.

In order to use a thru type filter, you will need to break the audio path
somewhere. Be sure you feed your filter with a good low-impedance source,
and feed a high impedance load with it.

From my recollection, the filter is used in the base station
package - why wouldn't it be? Yes, to use the filter, JU201 needs
to be removed or is that a problem for you?

I am using a Mitrek not a Micor. The Mitrek doesn't have a filter on the
 PL board.

[Repeater-Builder] HP 8920 Service Monitor Help

2003-11-17 Thread Scott Zimmerman

My HP 8920 Service monitor has suffered an
overpower condition to the Antenna IN connector for apparently it's last time
(Accidental of course!!). Does anyone have a "real" component levelservice
manual on this Monitor?

I have a manual that calls itself an "assembly
level repair guide". That's all fine and good.Following it has told
me that the problem is in the input/output
section (A23). A call to HP for a replacement module sat me on the floor for a
few hours!!They want as much for that module as I paid for the whole
monitor!!!

I'm sure it's a relatively simple fix with (maybe)
a common part, but without any board level docs. it's hard to say. I have
disassembled the module to look for any burnt traces or parts blown off the
board, but everything looks OK. I ran a few simple ohm meter checks, but with a
multi-layer board, I can't tell where some of the traces are supposed to
go.

Has anyone run into this before or knowof a
decent person to deal with when it comes to repair. I really on this
monitoron a dailybasis, and it's completely usable through the other
2 ports, so I'm not reallyenthused about sending it off to the repair
shopfor a few months.
