There was more to it than just activating the scan list from the front panel - I still had not properly activated the scan options in the RSS. Anyway, it is working as I desired. Thanks to everyone for your assistance! Now, I have another ham friend who has a Spectra with a v1.x MLM and would like his radio to be able to scan as well. Yep – I designated which Modes are displayed in each Zone… FWIW – this morning on the way to work (I know – I should do this while PARKED) I tried to activate SCAN again. If I hold the SCAN button down for 2 seconds, the SCAN indicator flashes and I get “SEL MODE”, so apparently the scan list is empty. ??? However, it appears the scan list is NOT Zone-dependent, since the first Mode that showed up when I tried to toggle through was one from a different Zone than the one I had selected to operate from. I wonder if I can create scan lists by Zone… Now, if I can just find the Spectra operator’s manual I have squirreled-away… ;-) Mark – N9WYS From: Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com On Behalf Of dmurman… I'll have to check later tonight when I get home but it is not an option but a function key on the bottom of the screen when you are in the Zones menu. Hey Mark, In the 'old' spectra, after you hold in the scan button get the 'sel mode' message, use the mode buttons to go through the modes. When you get one you want, push the 'SEL' button. Multiple presses will take it through the priorities. To delete, use the 'DEL' key. While the 'sel' message is displayed, you can also hit the 'SEL' button to change the priority of the mode that is selected. hope this helps. Tim

That means that you have entered the scan programming mode...in other words your radio is programmed for Operator Selectable Scan. Pressing RCL at this point will show you what is in the scan list. Preeing HOME will exit the list. Change channels using your mode up/down (or the channel knob if you have an A4/B4/C4/D4/E4/W4/O4 control head) and hit SEL once, twice, or three times to select non-priority scan, priority 1 scan, or priority 2 scan. -- Kris Kirby, KE4AHR Disinformation Analyst

For everyone on the list - with some offline assistance from Dave WA4ECM, I was able to get this working the way I wanted it to. There was more to it than just activating the scan list from the front panel - I still had not properly activated the scan options in the RSS. Anyway, it is working as I desired. I don't have the radio or manual with me at this time but I think you need to program scan by going to F2 then select zones then select scan. I have my Spectra set up for Zones so I can have a different scan for the Zone I select. Hope this helps. Kris - if the radio doesn't support conventional SCAN with a v6.x MLM, I don't know what one does. This is NOT an older radio. Dave - well, I can see the following in the Zone Scan Options: Talkback Scan. Enabled Scan Button Control... Active Coded Squelch Scan... Enabled SCAN TYPETalkgroup Non-Priority List Op Select This is set for each Zone. So why doesn't it work when I turn SCAN on? (I tried to find this reference in the RSS manual, but that is an exercise in futility.) Maybe I need to select the Non-Priority scan list somehow - possibly from the front panel??
