In an artwork view for instance, I see an artwork for each CD and the text under it will say which disc bc i put it explicitly in the album tag field... I'm not sure if I'm answering your question, but the rules I have created for me evolved over time, with the goal in mind that what I do is so that my collection works the same way with ANY software that is used, nothing is conflated or confused, and also so that things are immediately obvious to me, easily recognized for what they are. Some people don't like to use albumartist tags or only use them in certain scenarios, etc, but to me it makes sense to simply always use them. I basically use them to sort things where I want to find them, like u might in a CD store. It has the added benefit of making sure I can always find things in the same place in any software. It also makes sure all tracks from one CD group together. Comp tags are completely optional in my usage. I don't actually need them. But I do set comp=1 sometimes if I want certain software to recognize something as a comp for whatever reason. For you, comp tags are necessary bc u split up a single comp CDs tracks between differing folders by using an artist, not albumartist structure. Thank you for the reply. I think you also handle albums from different artists with the same name (not only Best of etc.) in the same way? I only set the albumartist when there are tracks that are made by the original artist and someone else together. For compilations (I only treat albums from totally different artists as compilations like "Best of 80s" or so) I set PARTOFACOMPILATION to 1 and ALBUMARTIST to nothing.
