[Rosegarden-user] lilypond -> midi -> rg -> lilypond

2022-05-30 Thread prad via Rosegarden-user

i have a lot of ly files created with frescobaldi and

1. want to bring them into rg (for editing, playback etc)
2. then export them back to ly (to keep things rg based)

the only way i can see doing this (since rg doesn't import ly), is to

a. make midi files out of the ly
b. import into rg
c. export back to ly

the result of c will be quite different from the original which is fine
(so long as everything is consistent).

the difficulty i'm having though is lyrics are in a ChoirAh segment
after the midi import which consists of rests with lyrics under
them. that is what gets exported out into the ly file and remains so
even after convert-ly.

i can remove the rests section and manipulate the lyrics to my liking
(eg every word is in quotes which i'd prefer otherwise), so i can get
what i'd like with some fiddling.

i am wondering though if there is a smarter|efficient way to make the
conversion.

Currently RG doesn't detect the installed LilyPond version.

You should not have to manually modify .ly file because LilyPond
provide convert-ly: a tool to do it automatically.

How to do this:
 - Export to LilyPond from RG (select LilyPond 2.14)
 - Convert the .ly file to the LilyPond installed version:
 convert-ly file.ly > file_new.ly
 - Run LilyPond on file_new.ly
 lilypond file_new.ly

Such a procedure is automatically run when the menu
"File -> Print Preview..." is called.

21.12 is the last released RG version.
Next release (22.06) will be delivered in about 10 days.
About LilyPond export, this new release will only fix a few minor
bugs:
 - Sometimes missing time signature change
 - Sometimes missing crescendo/decrescendo hairpins
 - 4/4 and 2/2 time signatures always exported as common time

I hope I'll find the time to dust off the LilyPond exporter (especially
about the provided LilyPond version) before the following release of RG
in next december.

It depends how many time archlinux needs to incorporate a new RG
release and how much you needs the new fixes and features of this
release.

[Rosegarden-user] export to lilypond

2022-05-30 Thread prad via Rosegarden-user
rosegarden 21.12 qt 5.15.2
which is what i get on archlinux

exports to lilypond 2.14 though i read that it detects the version of
lilypond on my computer.

lilypond is up to 2.22.2 though it still works with minor
editing of the .ly file (eg remove \lyricsto).
i have to change the \version too.

are there later versions of rg?
would compiling it be better than getting it from archlinux?
