The main reason is that ffmpeg updates need coordination with fedora
maintainers ( specially with the ABI bump involved)
Now most of us are busy with some last item with F40. So this is likely to
land afterward

Please remind that we are a community project, so if you want to help
maintaining packages, you are welcome.

Well, the only issue for your use-case you would get is with VDPAU
support that nouveau lacks, at least officially. Have you tried the
nouveau-firmware ?

Yep, It's not a file that we distribute on this driver on purpose.

470xx is unmaintained unfortunately, we need to find a maintainer to
update the package and specially use the driver and verify that

The package will be pushed in stable updates on the next push. (so
please report that everything is fine).

Long story: Upstream added a another library as a dependency of

Thanks for rising this point.

This is documented in our CommonBugs

As stated in the notice, it's not clear which side is the problem (at
least it's not reproducible with dnf update --releaver=36, only during
the system-upgrade process).
At least it was reproduced not only with nvidia but another kmod...

According to the vlc message, using libmp3lame seems to mean that your

decoder within ffmpeg).

Can you try to run:

Raspberry Pi downstream kernel

2021-01-31 Thread Nicolas Chauvet
Hello,

Using Fedora and upstream components on the Raspberry Pi is slowly
making progress, but it's also locked by the closed-source firmware,
and some features are also missing upstream.
Downstream kernel is more complete, but is also locking users with
incompatibles API (specially with GPIO that the whole Pi software
ecosystem community relies upon).

This message shouldn't be understood as a mean to advertise buying
RaspberryPI as, depending on your use case, better alternatives may
exists... But it's also well known that rasperrypi is commonly
widespread already.

So I would like to introduce a dedicated RPM Fusion RPI repository
with few components enabled for the RPI. This is still a work in
progress and might be of interest to bring end-users in the
fedora/rpmfusion eco-system without compromise on performance and
features.

See also https://rpmfusion.org/Howto/RaspberryPi

I hope this helps.

About libcec on epel8, I've talked with Peter and he asked volunteers
to maintain the epel8 branch to formally request it with an email.

Additionally, I would recommends to submit a MR on pagure with the
intended changes for epel8, eventually in a way that allows forward

At some point, there is no reason to upgrade epel7 if we start to
disable features there. Mythtv users that wants newer version should
upgrade to a more modern Base, like CentOS8 or soon Stream 9.
Also please remind that most EL end-users literally "hate updates".

Also if mythtv has bumped support for a newer libvpx, you might also
revert the patch to use a newer API (for el7 only) and revert back to
the API used by el7 libvpx.
That's the "game" with supporting EL anyway where you will have to
rely on older libraries.

Thx for this work anyway.

Can you please have add a virtual provide ppsspp for the qt version so
the old package get transitioned to the qt version automatically (also
dnf install ppsspp will work).
(or look at the other proposal).

Yep This is a long standing issue most package maintainers behave
badly when it comes to sub-packages IMNSHO.
Basically you are breaking an "interface with end-users" when dnf
install ppsspp doesn't work anymore. Whereas it can be easily
workarounded by searching which package to install. It's also very
irritating to remember how one package maintainer broke software into
small pieces and which design pattern was "more or less arbitrarily
chosen".

I've already raised this point for the kodi case some time ago in this
mailing list. (you can have a look at kodi packaging for the
implementation detail).

But basically if you merge back the -data sub-package as the main
(that can still be noarch), and add:
Requires: (%{name}-qt or %{name}-sdl)
Suggests: (%{name}-qt if qt5-qtbase)
Suggests: (%{name}-sdl if SDL2)

This should behave as appropriate for less sub-packages "scumbling..."

So this is only two solutions out of many, but the main point is to
keep everything works as appropriate with dnf install ppsspp

What makes you think so ? At least using this page leaves room for
having our package installation documented.
https://build.ppsspp.org/?page/downloads#linux

For the same reason that I have it documented in the vlc case upstream:
https://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-fedora.html

Of course, having an appdata file helps to have the package
advertised, but I expect many end-users still search for upstream
pointers over dnf or "softwares".

I hope this helps.

Hello Antonio,

Can you confirm the following ?
- What is the behaviour if using dnf install ppsspp ?
- Is there any appdata file provided in any flavor ? (can you provide
one if missing)
- Is it possible to install both sdl and qt at the same time ?
- Can you make changes so that ppsspp-sdl is installed if SDL(2)
package is available.
- Same for qt (-> so that end-users don't have to figure out which
sub-package is relevant of their system)

Finally can you document that packaging change into upstream website
(once corrected if relevant).

Thanks in advance.

PrimaryGPU alone is not enough, you need to "keep" the others options
from the nvidia.conf file.

NO, glamor confusing nvidia is past days. This is not the issue at
all, so whatever you made to workaround that, have to be reverted.
glamor is mandatory for modesettings and will be discarded as
appropriate for nvidia.

Witht that said, It's obvious that wiki from foreign distros are
confusing -you- !
Please only look at our official howto and "upstream" nvidia
documentation and revert everything else that have been mentioned
elsewhere.

Once again, that's outdated documentation. Fedora doesn't need that
anymore by default.
Of course if you don't have the PrimaryGPU set as appropriate, you can
still use that, but it's dramatically sub-optimal.

Please open a bugzilla ticket with the archive generated by
nvidia-bug-report.sh attached.
This have to be generated on the target configuration (with both
"PrimaryGPU" and "AllowEmptyInitialConfiguration" set in nvidia.conf)
You may have to create it from a remote computer if needed.

(side note), PrimaryGPU must appear un-commented only once, or the
first option will take-over the second.

You need to copy the full file in
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/nvidia.conf to
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/nvidia.conf
Eventually dropping SLI and BaseMosaic, but others options are still mandatory.

So in my case, it gives that: https://paste.centos.org/view/893a8b78

Which card are you using ? Which desktop environment ?

Can you get more clear? We don't replace fedora packages, it's totally
forbidden by our policy.
So can you be accurate on what you requires from us ?

If you import the packages into rpmfusion, a review is mandatory.

Thanks in advance.
(I'm out of the loop for this topic until one submit fedora gst for review).

Unfortunately, it's still difficult to take into account "downstream users".
So I instead, I would suggest to import the base gstreamer packages
into rpmfusion-free, and build everything there so we can provide a
side repository that will be de-activated by default.

Hello,

This is one of the common bugs for fedora 32:
https://rpmfusion.org/CommonBugs

There is no active maintainer for the 340xx serie, so you will likely
have another issue on the next kernel that will break.

Thanksfully Leigh has submitted an update.
http://koji.rpmfusion.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=15073
But he do not own a 340xx device, so will unlikely maintain and fix if
there is another severe issue.

Thanks for your understanding.

Can you produce a patch again the rpmfusion package instead of
grabbing a foreign distro package.
Use rfpkg clone free/amule

It's more likely that using a recent snapshot might solve the issue,
please keep the rpmfusion package history (changelog, etc).

no need the rawhide kernel nodebug, it's not possible to build nvidia
with a debug kernel. (or maybe it's already broken).

I end to package a long term kernel if you want a test.

Using RHEL/CentOS kernel is even more difficult, specially because
it's everything but a longterm 4.18 kernel. You will have to craft your
own patch.

It looks like everything is set as appropriate. the 340xx is indeed
EOL by NVIDIA by the end of the year. There is no maintainer for this
release.
Please not that even if it works with the xorg-server, there is
unlikely fixes for kernel support.
https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3142/~/support-timeframes-for-unix-legacy-gpu-releases

If you need the proprietary driver for video output, you can test
using nouveau-firmware from tainted-nonfree.

Others drivers are working fine with f31 at this step.

Hi,

Thx for getting in touch.
It's probably best to report to bugzilla because it will notify the
current maintainer that will provide the most appropriate answer
Please use bugzilla.rpmfusion.org and use the

You already have replied, but if you rely on hyperkitty for the
answer, we have a know but that replies sometime aren't seen.

As I understand, the text console is a limitation of the NVIDIA
driver. It's true that with current nvidia serie, we don't set
GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=text anymore leaving the bootloader (EFI)
framebuffer to be re-used eventually by grub, but it's not something
that is supported by NVIDIA as they want noone else to tweak the
device before them.

If you want a better resolution for the console, you will need a KMS
driver such as nouveau. NVIDIA has no plan to support KMS driver, as
such there is no way around (that is supported by NVIDIA).

I hope you understand.
Thx for your question.

Can you reproduce from a clean install with only Fedora + RPM Fusion
packages ? (or another computer)
I simply don't reproduce the crash on many systems.
Also you seems to search for libraries in /usr/lib64/vlc and
/usr/lib64/pulseaudio

If you can have a reproducer, please report to bugzilla.rpmfusion.org

This is been worked on, and the fix will be pushed into stable
directly (along with others build that will fix others deps issue with
fedora).

With that said , my point is that dependency vdr(abi)(x86-64) should
be fixed to something like 2.4 (instead of 2.4.0) so vdr 2.4.1
shouldn't need to update every vdr plugins ?
If you can test and report that using vdr-2.4.1 with the current
vdr-mplayer works, it would be nice. (dnf download vdr && rpm -Uvh
--force vdr-2.4.1*.rpm).

Thx in advances.

It's up to the packager.

But It's usually expected that few month before fedora 28 will be EOL
that moving to newer versions are less often.
There are few regression experienced by some users (wrt dvbv5/dvbv3
and dual dvb-c/t tuner) that aren't going to be fixed by the f28
livetime, so if you want to keep a stable system, please keep with
f28.
In the other case, you can still upgrade to f29...

I re-interate what I've said in #fedora IRC channel. get us an output
of nvidia-bug-report.sh
The nvidia kernel module should be built on post-installation, but if
you reboot too early, it can also be built on the next boot. If for
some reason the module is not loaded, nouveau will take-over. And you
may have nvidia on the second reboot.
We don't use nomodeset anymore on the RPM Fusion package, as we use
other technique to block nouveau from loading.

Please also mention which driver serie you are using, you should get
main nvidia driver with your NVIDIA card.
Thx for your understanding.

Hi,

Thx for rising this point.
Nothing prevent to document this for users. But please remind that
this is a (gnome~) desktop feature and rpmfusion can be installed
where appdata are not relevant (server , lighter desktop env).

We we tried to take this into account and found that the best way was
to use Supplements: appstream-data. That way when appstream-data is
available, the rpmfusion-free-appstream-data package is installed as
needed.
So what you describes is that this does not work as intended ?
Can you try to reproduce using cmd line and graphicals tools ? (using
a dedicated VM if need)

Thx

Those two should be merged probably. (see later about backend selection).

>- kodi-wayland: Wayland binary
>- kodi-gdm: GDM binary

I really don't like exposing users to such choices. What if user only
install kodi-wayland, but then decide to run kodi under a Xorg session
?

Probably a cleaner solution is to enforce conditional dependency from
the main kodi package such as:
Requires: kodi-x11 if Xorg
Requires: kodi-wayland if libwayland-server
etc

Also I think you are currently missing a condition as you requires the
wayland backend either or not it was enabled in the conditional...

But anyway, not a big deal, it's just that I bit every time I ear
about "users choice"
As I way better prefer the packaging(er) to do the right choice for me instead

Thx for the update.
(I still have a WIP patch for arm on upstream tracker, I will try to finish it).

We are seeking for a maintainer to maintain the 390xx serie, but none

This is probably because of a "race" because once the newer package is
installed, you need to wait for the kmod to be rebuilt by
akmod-nvidia.
If you are running as root, the inhibitor (that should prevent the
local user to reboot) is bypassed.

A journalct -b (and -1) output in a dedicated bugreport would be
welcomed. We need to fix those race conditions.

FYI, We are going to move the 396.45 driver to stable later today.
Please give it a test from the rpmfusion-nonfree-updates-testing repository
(and WARN if anything).

Thx

Seeking nvidia legacy maintainers for 390xx/340xx series

2018-07-17 Thread Nicolas Chauvet
Hi,

Just to inform that with the 396+ nvidia release, the support for
fermi GPU will be dropped.
If you have such GPU, the current workaround will be to use the 340xx
serie or to switch to nouveau.
NVIDIA plans to maintain the 390xx serie for few time, so this can be
added as a new package.
I've started to work on the packaging (1) , but it requires more time
and work that Leigh or me can offer (for free).

So anyone to volunteer to maintain the 390xx driver (same for 340xx serie).

Thx in advance.

(btw, we plan to move to 396+ to stable in the coming days).

I'm pretty sure that's because gnome-shell (and gdm before that) uses wayland.
The driver currently doesn't support wayland , at least not in fedora
by default, because mutter isn't compiled with EGL stream support
required by NVIDIA.
The driver currently in testing will disable wayland in gdm only on
installation. So it should only be a matter for you to reinstall the
packages.

Seems like we may better update the documentation to clearly state
that wayland is not supported yet with nvidia.

You need to report this to nvidia.
I've read it, and there are very interesting informations.
The root cause seems to be because of your monitor, as the edid
considered as invalid by the nvidia driver.
But the driver constantly tries to revalidate the edid.

It's possible that there are others errors, but nvidia guys would know.
Please report the issue here: https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/board/98/linux/

Please attach the archive generated by nvidia-bug-report.sh on the

I would also recommand to disable wayland (in gdm AND gnome session)
if relevant.

You need to attach the archive generated by nvidia-bug-report.sh to
bugzilla.rpmfusion.org
The nvidia legacy serie does not support wayland (or even kms IIRC) so
you should not be concerned by wayland and automatically fallback to
Xorg.
(Unless gdm tries wayland even, in which case we should turn it off on
installation).

And it is, except that in this case and because of the bug. But it can
be workarounded by installing the libva-intel-driver package on intel
hw.
In other words, there is not always a message that tell where the bug
is... Surprising ?

I'm going to revert the update as an emergency measure to prevent
others vlc users from breaking.
And at the same time, prepare a fixed update.

There are few issues that need to be fixed because of such update
hitting stable:
- We need more users to test and report feedback on the proposed updates
Probaly this will re-open the needs for bodhi. But the rpmfusion-users
mailing list is appropriate until then.
- Because of an emergency(wrt the 4.14 kernel update), I needed to
push packages twice, which in the current process means packages in
testing went in stable no matters how long they lived in testing.
This also needs to be improved.

This is fixed in primary mirror. The fix will propagate in the local

You can use: "dnf update --refresh" if needed.

And that's something we do for others sub-domains specially those that
are end-users facing services.
Koji is not an end-users facing service, it's a contributor service
and the way koji clients/server configuration currently works requires
to have a root certificate for both ends.
Fedora has only moved to a commonly trusted CA with moving to kerberos
authentication. I don't plan to implement kerberos authentication in
the foreseeable future as it would requires to host one more vm and a
dedicated application (freeipa) to provide the same service.

However, I would mention that the certificate used by koji is "not" a
self signed certificate. It's a certificate signed by our own trusted
server root ca (that is a self-signed certificate as any root CA is)
You can fetch it (securely) using this URL:
https://admin.rpmfusion.org/accounts//rpmfusion-server-ca.cert

If you can't access securely the koji instance, you are not a targeted
audience for the service either.

Thx for your understanding.

So it's might be an issue with your input stream. Can you run

If your device is based on kepler, you should be able to do YUV 4:2:0

FYI, I've untagged theses build for stable, they will be replaced by
the 384.59 serie that still have the sound issue as was mentioned
before.

This is because you have installed the wrong kernel-devel variant ,
you need kernel-devel whereas you might have kernel-debug-devel
instead (when using the normal kernel).
So it's likely that you have an installation error and akmods cannot
build the module.

In the nvidia documentation, I've tried to workaround this issue by
using (on a fully updated system and rebooted):
dnf install "kernel-devel-uname-r == $(uname -r)"
https://rpmfusion.org/Howto/NVIDIA#Current_GeForce.2FQuadro.2FTesla

But the coming fix will be to use a new rpm feature, so it has a
chance to be installed along the right kernel.

FYI, this driver update is known to break audio via dp/hdmi as reported here:
https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/1019761/linux/no-sound-using-displayport-audio-with-375-82-or-384-59/

Because it might be an unacceptable regression for some users,
(workaround is to use a jack cable, but still);
we decided to keep this driver in rpmfusion-nonfree-updates-testing
until a fixed driver is published from nvidia:
If you are not affected by the bug, you can update using:
dnf update --enablerepo=rpmfusion-nonfree-updates-testing akmod-nvidia
xorg-x11-drv-nvidia\*

Also note that the new 384.59 lts serie is available in rawhide (with
the same sound issue as 375.82).
Please grab this one to stable fedora as stated in our wiki.

Please report any issue to bugzilla.rpmfusion.org.
Thx

for k3b https://bugzilla.rpmfusion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4557, but the
maintainer didn't answered.
for pangzero, you should create a bug report. But once should also
consider moving it to Fedora proper since it was using lame and lame
is now in Fedora.

This is only the "blob" kernel side content , it's unmodified for a
given release since if we need to apply patches to the "glue code", it
will be done with akmod-nvidia instead. Not here.

You can trust akmods --force, but more probably that the kmod was
built during the boot.
When it's built on boot, akmod doesn't yet know how to trigger a
module reload, so you need a second boot.
This used to work previously, but at the cost of a terrible hack.

> So what on earth do I need to do to really and truly
> force it to rebuild things?
More probably a reboot. Or explicitely modprobe nvidia-drm and see
what's happen, If the module is loaded, then everything was fine.

It's possible that there is another unknown reason. In this case,
please attach the /var/cache/akmods/akmods.log file to a bugzilla.

Thx for the report.

The error is here ^. Something prevent us to add a new group (and
user) for the akmods package.
This is needed so we can build under a dedicated (non root) user account.

There is a little mixup here.
Packages ending with .fc24 can perfectly be compatible with f25.
Specially as fedora has not made a mass rebuilt, we don't plan to
update it needlessly.

So the package is indeed signed with the f25 key because it's provided
as part of the f25-free repository that is only intended for f25.

What's weird is that's an issue that we have fixed two months agos:
https://pkgs.rpmfusion.org/cgit/free/rpmfusion-free-release.git/commit/?h=f24=470dafd8ea4b0eeddf7dda9177fc7450c2b7ebfe
and the package is provided in the updates repo since then:
http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/updates/24/x86_64/r/rpmfusion-free-release-24-2.noarch.rpm

Is there any issue with your repository configuration ? (or mirror ?)

Hi Jeff,
Thx for your report.

I don't reproduce on my workstation:
uname -r
4.8.4-200.fc24.x86_64
$ modinfo -F version nvidia
367.57
$ lspci |grep VGA
03:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GM107GL [Quadro
K620] (rev a2)

So there is currently not enought information for such update request.
We will update to 370.28 when we will fix others issues that might
arise to some corner cases.
Until then the usual way to get nvidia release ahead of the current
version is to use the latest/Beta driver that way:
http://rpmfusion.org/Howto/nVidia#Latest.2BAC8-Beta_driver

Also, if you hit any nvidia issue in the future, please attach the
output of nvidia-bug-report.sh to our bugzilla, we are totally blind
without it.
(even remontly from ssh from another host).

Thx again for your report.

The nvidia driver is currently not compatible with f25+ xorg-server.
So you need to fallback to using nouveau which should works fine with
GNOME is any cases.

I woudl have tought even recent hardware not accelerated by nouveau
should work fine with llvmpipe http://www.mesa3d.org/llvmpipe.html ,

Some users has reported a better behaviour using the modesetting
driver over nouveau (and maybe radeon) at this time while switching to
xorg-x11-server 1.19.
You might try.

There is no vlc/mplayer update. But you can still report the output of
vlc -v from cmdline as a start.
Maybe that will show something wrong in either side.

Thx for the report.

This is weird assumption that vdpau == nvidia, it's not the case. And
ffmpeg in rpmfusion been built by default with vdpau support this is
my last message from this thread.
We can't support foreign packages.

I need something with gdb, not strace:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/StackTraces
Please also attach the full log of vlc -v output as this will help me
to understand the modules loaded that will lead the the crash.

Thx

For the record, I hope to be able to fix that in the next hours.. (aka
sign the packages from free and nonfree)

Thx

It's probaly related to have kernel-debug-devel installed wheras akmods
currently Conflicts with it.
We have expected dnf to pick another kernel-devel varriant instead.
I probably work if you install rpmfusion and akmods before to install this
broken kernel-devel varriant, and was working as expected in earlier fedora
releases.

We probably need to revert this change and write a dnf/yum plugin to
properly install the right kernel-devel from the running kernel.

Thx for your report.
