[RollTideFan] Christmas Card For the Military

Subject: Christmas Card for our military
Christmas Card For our Military

Hi all. I'm collecting signatures for Christmas cards to send to our
military as a way of saying thanks for all that they do. The goal is to
collect as many signatures (and more) as there were victims in the September
terrorist attack.

It doesn't matter where they are stationed or what branch they belong to, we
want to acknowledge the job that they do. And as a side note--I'd like to
point out and say thanks at the same time, to those included in this email
who are currently in the service or have been in the past. Depending on what
response I receive (we could have 20 or hopefully 10,000 signatures).

I'll put together the results in alpha order and send it out mid-November.
This could be in the form of Christmas cards to individuals and/or a care
package to each branch of the service.

If you'd like to include a note, paragraph or letter (via email) in addition
to your signature I'll send that along too. Also, if you know of someone who
is in the military and want him or her to receive something, please send his
or her address to my attention. If you are interested in receiving updates
on how many signatures we received, how many cards were sent out, etc.,
please include your email address next to your name.
I won't include it in the mailing unless you advise otherwise.

During the Gulf War we did a similar thing at EMJ (prior employer) and it
was very rewarding. We ended up sending out close to 300 individual care
packages. Some were to family and friends of the employees, but for the most
part the packages were sent to Any Service Member in all branches of the
service.

We received numerous thank you notes and letters telling us how much our
efforts were appreciated -- it made it all worthwhile.

So what do you say kids?

Let's show our support!

Please copy and paste this email onto a blank email form (leaving off the
headers), add your name and send it to your family and friends.

If you happen to be #100, please send it back to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
If you don't have a large email listing just forward it back to my
attention.

Thanks

How do you think they convinced the city of B'ham to give them 7.5

I was really anticipating this game. With Rick Majeris bringing the
Utes to T-Town, I was expecting a tough game. Bama comes out fast and
furious and jumps ahead early with a big lead and never looked back.
After about the first 10 minutes though the game really got ragged and
Bama only seemed to pick up the pace when Utah cut the lead down to
around 10 or 12. I believe the biggest highlight after the first 10
minutes was Jim Farmer's half time performance. Anyone wishing to get

Before I start this rant, a little background:
I was hit by a drunk driver, driving on the wrong side of the INTERSTATE in 1990. I
broke 19 bones and ended up with more metal in my body that I care to think about.
Needless to say, I am not a fan of drunk drivers.

However, I remember back when I was in college. I had a few cocktails too. Actually,
I don't know how I have a functioning liver today. I think calling someone an
alcolohic or perpetuating the rumor that they are can only cause harm.

btw...in defending a DUI, arguing the calibration of the breathalizer usually works,
just due to the fact that calibrating the machine is time consuming and needs to be
done frequently. Most agencies do not calibrate the machines per guidelines.

Bottom line: If he is guilty, show him no preferential treatment. Even then, we
should not label Mr. Beard as an alcoholic or perpetuate anything of the sort. Only
believe half of what you see on campus and NONE of what you hear.

Franchione mum on QB
11/27/01

STEVE KIRK
News staff writer

TUSCALOOSA The University of Alabama's starting quarterback won't be
determined solely by Tyler Watts' health anymore.

Andrew (Zow)'s performance has to be a factor now, first-year Crimson
Tide head coach Dennis Franchione said Monday, referring to the
fifth-year senior's 22-for-29 passing performance in a 31-7 victory over
Auburn on Nov.17.

Before the Auburn game, Franchione said Watts would start if he was 100
percent healthy. But that is not the case going into a 6 p.m. Thursday
kickoff between the Tide (5-5) and Southern Mississippi (6-3) at Legion
Field.

Watts, a junior, started the first nine games of the season but hasn't
played since pulling a groin muscle in the first quarter of the
Mississippi State game Nov.10.

Franchione didn't reveal his starter Monday, but he did defend his
decision-making concerning a quarterback debate that has surrounded this
team for three years.

Early in the year Tyler understood the offense far better than Andrew,
Franchione said. Andrew has said that and been open about it. And it's
true. Tyler always knew where to throw the ball, and he's comprehended
the details and nuances of this offense quicker than Andrew.

That's basically why Tyler has played. As time has gone on, Andrew has
caught up.

Some Alabama fans have questioned Franchione's quarterback decisions to
this point. Also, some black Alabama fans have claimed in newspaper
letters to the editor and on sports talk radio shows that some white
Alabama fans don't want a black quarterback, and that Franchione's
decisions have been influenced by that.

Zow, the school's career record-holder in total yards, plays and three
passing categories, said Monday he appreciates the support but he called
it a lot of people's opinions. ... The coaches are around us every day
and they evaluate us. And I'm not thinking they would jeopardize (the
team) by bringing race into their decisions.

Franchione has consistently said that the best players play for his
football teams, and Zow said he doesn't look at the quarterback
competition as a black-white issue.

I'm just looking to go out there and play, basically, Zow said. The
support I get from anybody is greatly appreciated ... But if it's (based
on) race, I think we need to probably look over that and continue to go
forward.

Zow said he tries not to think about the issue of race.

Wherever you go, you're going to have racism or race problems, Zow
said. But how I think is, I go out and try to be a quarterback and
overlook things like that.

Zow agreed with Franchione on Monday. He saidthat he didn't know the
offense well early in the season.

I've grown to understand it more and better, Zow said. I think I was
trying to get to the perfect play throughout the season. Sometimes you're
not going to have the perfect play. I believe I started learning that
throughout the season.

Franchione said, Andrew's performance (against Auburn) is an example of
his understanding and how it's grown over the course of time. He might
have been ready to do it quicker, but we got into a rhythm with Tyler.
But he was ready to do it when he did do it.

I know the team has confidence in both of those young men. The coaches
have confidence in both of them.

If both of them are healthy, it's still a real competitive issue and
they'd probably both play.

Franchione was secretive about his starting quarterback before the Auburn
game, too. Meanwhile, Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville told anyone who
would listen that Watts would play and he prepared his team to stop the
Watts-led option running attack.

Watts didn't play a snap.

Whether (the uncertainty) will have as much of an impact on Southern
Miss as it appeared to have on the last game remains to be seen,
Franchione said.

For what it is worth, those using AOL version 6.0 do not have an easy way to
send mail plain text. It defaults to HTML, and the fix to send in plain
text is convoluted and frankly a pain.

[RollTideFan] Is The Tide Gonna Be Ready?

2001-11-27 Thread Rick McMahan

It's gonna be a good test for the boys from T-town, but I believe they're
gonna have enough incentive to put the eagles in their rightful place.
Bama's offense will be able to wear down the SM defenders and will control
the clock and score 30+ points, no matter who quarterbacks (and I predict
both Watts and Zow will play, with AZ getting the start). I look for FM to
have a great night! Bama's defensive front will harass Mr. Kelly all night
and the DB's will pick-off two of his passes. The Tide will close out the
regular season with a resounding win at the Old Gray Lady on Graymont!

Err... Bobby, you shouldn't be able to post via Yahoo since we left the
service months ago. That is only an archive now. Very odd! As soon as I can
figure out how to move 10,000 messages from Yahoo to the private server (IF
I ever do) then Yahoo will be totally disassociated with RTF. (PLEASE GOD!!
Make it soon!)

It's someone new every day posting with HTML. Some have even used freakin'
stationary. I refuse to name names in public because I sure don't wanna
em-bare-ass anyone. I just ask for everyone to double check their e-mail.
That's all. If I can ever get the dude at the hosting company to work with
me I will try to get him to install a filter to strip the HTML from the
messages at the server level. Don't hold your breath... If it wasn't for the
'digest' version of the list being almost 1/2 of the membership then I
wouldn't worry about it at all. I just don't want to alienate those Bama
fans just because they chose the 'digest' form of the list for their own
reasons. I prefer HTML mail myself... sometimes.

Attachments: Don't even bother with them. Any pic sent to the list lives in
the archive forever and takes up butt-loads of server space. No problem,
really EXCEPT that the e-mail associated with the pic vanishes from the
server's archives in a matter of seconds. Too weird. Pics also screw up the
'digest' more than HTML mail does.

Editing posts: No big deal to the individual e-mailers but imagine having to
wade through a digested thread where no one edited a single post. Each
message in the digest gets larger and larger.

Also, HTML, pics, non-edited replies all increase the size of each
individual e-mail (and digest) and takes up a lot of unnecessary server
space for those who use web-based clients to read mail. 6 mb ain't a lot of
space, ya know. When their inboxes fill up then their addresses start
bouncing. We get up to 300 bounce messages per day sometimes. There are
handled appropriately. Some are unsubscribed once it is determined that the
account is dead. About 9 out of 20 are just full mailboxes that get emptied
out every day or 2 but the bounce messages wreak havoc with my inbox in the
meantime. I don't do the usual list-owner thing and just mass-delete
bouncing members with no questions asked. These are Bama fans and deserve
better than that. On that note: If you are on WebTV then please ask Santa
for a PC for Christmas! ARGH!

One more note: Those who use Outlook who like the look of HTML but want to
post in plain text then just go into the mail options and change the default
folt to whatever you want to see. All plain mail then will look like HTML.
No. That's not what I did...

Severe Storms Possible Thursday Into Thursday Night
Across Parts Of North And Central Alabama...

A strong upper level storm system was moving slowly
across the southwest parts of the United States this
afternoon. At the surface...a cold front was
stationary across parts of middle
Tennessee...northwest Alabama...through Mississippi
and Louisiana. The cold front is expected to remain
nearly stationary through Wednesday night. These two
weather features will combine Wednesday night...and
sweep across the state Thursday and Thursday night.
Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms can be
expected along and ahead of cold front.

Current conditions and computer models indicate that
the best chance for severe weather should Thursday
into Thursday night. This time frame may change
depending on later observations and computer model
output.

Damaging winds...large hail...lightning...locally
heavy rainfall... and isolated tornadoes are all
possible with the severe storms.

Persons across north and central Alabama should keep
up to date on the latest weather
forecasts...statements...and possible warnings
Wednesday through Thursday.

Storm spotters and emergency management personnel
should remain alert for changing weather conditions
Tuesday through Thursday as the storm systems approach
and sweep across the area

When I was over in Australia, they had a huge marketing campaign against
drunk driving. The whole country (okay, the parts of it I *saw*) were
plastered with signs that read:

Drink.
Drive.
Bloody Idiot.

Typically aussie - they don't mince words. BTW - one of the footie clubs
(Aussie rules football) actually were sponsored by a government commission
and wore this in the backs of their jumpers (jerseys for us yanks).

family, my teammates, The University of Alabama and its fans for my actions in
Nashville last weekend. I understand that I made a terrible mistake, but I
am also ready to do whatever it takes to restore the trust and confidence given
by those who have supported me.

The Iron Bowl game that Dye announced his retirement the day before was
the 17-0 game in 1992. The tornado game was 1983.

[RollTideFan] Opportunity of a lifetime!

2001-11-27 Thread William H Evans

Anybody who would like to meet me and discuss any personal issues with me
or barners in general will get their chance Thursday night!

Jeff Todd has been kind enough to procure Phil Harbison's tickets for
Thursday's game and he and I will be attending. Do we know yet what the
scholarship tent will be serving for grub?

Is the Hugh fan club going to be meeting at Al's Crossroads West?

James,

I heard that USA will be retiring Luis Gonzales' jersey in the not too
distant future. Will you be attending the ceremony?

Isn't Eddie Stanky (manager) the only other Jaguar to have his jersey
retired?
