Shula says Hudson will play in Iron Bowl By Anna Maria Della Costa Sports Writer November 21, 2003 TUSCALOOSA | Ray Hudson will dress out and play in the Iron Bowl on Saturday, University of Alabama coach Mike Shula said after practice on Thursday. The Crimson Tide running back was arrested last week and charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana. The junior from Bonifay, Fla., did not dress for last weekend's game against LSU. As far as discipline, we'll handle that in-house and not make it public, Shula said. Hudson is the team's second-leading rusher with 419 yards on 83 carries this season. He is averaging 4.9 yards a carry and has one touchdown this season. __ RollTideFan - The University of Alabama Athletics Discussion List Welcome to RollTideFan! Wear a cup! [RollTideFan] This is Bama! - This is Auburn!
Beautifully written by Jeff Cooper! Take the time to read it all. It's GREAT! == THIS IS ALABAMA FOOTBALL! It is Wallace Wade. It is Paul Bear Bryant. It is not Bill Curry. It Is The Rose Bowl. It is hearing Keith Jackson call an Alabama game. It is Watching George Teague running down Lamar Thomas in the 1993 Sugar Bowl, then rewinding it and watching it again. It is hearing the first notes of Sweet Home Alabama. Sorry UAB Auburn, but that isn't your song. It is the desire to beat Auburn at any competitive event that exists. It is the houndstooth hat. It is having enough pride to fight for your school but having enough class not to. It is cheering the same amount for a first down on 2nd 6 As on 4th 1. It is watching Cornelius Bennett give Notre Dame QB Steve Beuerlein a concussion on that October day in Birmingham in 1986. It is determining whom you are going to date marry by which team they swear allegiance to. It is watching The Bear on the Jumbotron in Bryant-Denny Stadium and almost seeing him leaning against the goalpost. It is opening a day at the Bryant Museum still not seeing everything. It is cool crisp autumn Saturdays where you can smell football in the air feel it with the slightest breeze. It is watching The Bear get #315 against Auburn (how appropriate). It is watching The Bear get #323 against Illinois. It is hearing Paul Kennedy call the play-by-play as Van Tiffin kicks the 52-yd game winning field goal against Auburn in 1985. It is knowing all year long how many days until the start of the season. It is driving down Colonial Drive to see Bryant-Denny Stadium, not the sorority girls, although some may disagree. It is getting chills up down your entire body whenever you hear anything about the 1993 Sugar Bowl the pride you feel because on that night, TRADITION RULED. It is hearing Coach Bryant's voice having all the hair on the back of your neck stand straight up because you know that no matter what he said, it was something special. It is hearing The Million Dollar Band play Yea Alabama and knowing it just doesn't get any better. It is imagining hearing Penn State QB Chuck Fusina ask Alabama linebacker Barry Krauss How close is it? hearing Barry say About an inch, you'd better pass right before 4th down during The Goal Line Stand in the 1979 Sugar Bowl. It is almost coming to tears whenever Alabama loses to Auburn or Tennessee. It is The Kick. It is The Goal Line Stand. It is The Desperation Block. It is purposely not wearing any clothes with the colors orange blue. It is the 3rd Saturday in October. It is not needing an alarm clock on game days. You sit straight up in bed long before it goes off, knowing its game day. You can sleep after the bowl game. It is walking into the stadium with the feeling that Alabama will win the game, simply because that is the way it is supposed to be. It is saying Offense wins games, defense wins national titles. It is the Bear Bryant A. It is walking into the stadium hours before the game just to be there. It is walking into another school's stadium having those fans hate you because you're a Bama fan. It is the pride that a father has when he brings his children to a game so they may cherish the tradition. It is beating LSU in Baton Rouge. It is hearing the crunch as a crimson clad linebacker takes down a running back dressed in orange blue. It is the pride you take in being EVERY team's rival. It is pulling for any team that's playing Auburn. It is pulling for any team that's playing Tennessee. It is hoping that the stadium blows up when Auburn plays Tennessee. It is knowing that the SEC Championship is a birthright. It is being respected, feared at the same time. It is holding up four fingers at the end of the 3rd quarter. It is knowing what Mama Called means. It is having 20 SEC Championships. It is having 12 National Championships. It is more than I can ever mention in these few paragraphs. It is class. It is tradition. IT IS ALABAMA FOOTBALL. - THIS IS AUBURN FOOTBALL It is Bobby Lowder It is Terry Tiny Bowden. It is not Bear Bryant. It is the Poulon Weed-Eater Bowl It is hearing Bob Kesling call a 10:30am game. It is watching Pat Dye running down Terry Bowden in the 1997 season, then hearing him do it again for half of the 1998 season. It is ommy Tubberville saying Wild horses would have to drag me away from Ole Miss. It is hearing the first notes of Money Talks. Sorry Tennessee Miami, but that isn't your song. It is the desire to beat anybody at any competitive event that exists in Div II. It is the dunce hat. It is having enough pride to fight for your date but not having enough class to leave your sister alone. It is cheering the same amount for a first down on 2nd 6 as on the ref's yellow flag. It is watching Gabe Gross give Alabama DL Kindal

[RollTideFan] Deere Slef: Prolly Old News 2 U.
Syphilis increase sparks AIDS concerns By Steve Mitchell United Press International Published 11/20/2003 5:20 PM WASHINGTON, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- Syphilis rates rose dramatically for the second straight year in the United States, particularly among gay and bisexual men, a finding that has health officials worried about an increase in HIV/AIDS cases in the coming years. Overall, the U.S. syphilis rate rose by 9 percent between 2001 and 2002, the second consecutive increase from an all-time low in 2000, according to figures released Thursday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. The bulk of the increase occurred among men, rising by about 27 percent overall, including a staggering increase of more than 85 percent among white men and a nearly 36 percent increase among Latino men. Information on sexual orientation is often not collected by health departments but the CDC estimates 40 percent of the increase was in gay and bisexual men. The total number of syphilis cases increased from 6,100 to more than 6,800, but CDC officials think this probably is only the tip of the iceberg because many cases go undiagnosed. The overall number is probably significantly higher, Dr. John Douglas, director of the CDCs division of sexually transmitted diseases, said during a teleconference about the new figures, which appear in the Nov. 21 issue of CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. The rise in syphilis infections indicates a growing number of gay and bisexual men are having unprotected sex, which worries health officials because the men could be spreading other diseases, including HIV/AIDS. The problem is not just limited to the United States. Several other countries, including the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Australia and several countries in western Europe have also reported increases of syphilis and other diseases among gay and bisexual men and in many of these there are high levels of HIV co-infection, said Dr. Ronald O. Valdiserri, deputy director of CDC's HIV, sexually transmitted diseases and tuberculosis prevention center. Valdiserri said there is no clear evidence HIV cases are increasing yet in the United States, but we are extremely concerned about that possibility. He noted a study released in July at the National HIV Prevention Conference in Atlanta found rates of diagnosis with HIV infection were up by 17 percent among men who have sex with men. This does not necessarily represent new cases, however, so it is difficult to determine if the HIV infection rate actually is increasing, but we're very concerned about that increase because it wasn't observed in other risk groups, Valdiserri said. Heightening concern further is the fact that syphilis increases the risk of HIV transmission by two to five times, because the genital sores caused by syphilis serve as portals of entry for the AIDS virus, Douglas said. In addition, a recent study found HIV viral load increases when a person has syphilis, suggesting he or she may be more contagious. Sue Blank, assistant commissioner at the Bureau of Sexually Transmitted Disease Control at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, said she is worried about syphilis increases -- with 434 cases in 2002, New York had the most of any U.S. city -- because they could translate into an increase in HIV/AIDS infections. Certainly, the concern for us is the syphilis outbreaks are going to be heralding increases in HIV, Blank said. The CDC is now mobilizing efforts to battle the syphilis problem and officials are confident that prevention strategies can help keep the disease in check. Although syphilis increased in gay and bisexual men, education and intensified testing efforts appear to have resulted in a decline in cases among African-American men and a 19-percent drop among women overall -- including nearly a 22-percent decrease in African-American females. However, prevention strategies will need to be tailored to the gay community to keep the disease in check in that population, Valdiserri said. Although the factors driving the increase among gay and bisexual men are multi-factorial -- not due to one single cause -- some of the reasons include a relaxed attitude about sexually transmitted diseases. This is due to the introduction of medications that can keep AIDS in check, Valdiserri said. Other reasons include substance abuse and emerging venues that facilitate unprotected sex including the Internet, he added. Blank noted when her department interviewed a number of gay and bisexual men in 2002 about their sexual habits, it found recruiting sexual partners over the Internet was a common practice, including among those infected with syphilis. Blank's group also found, however, men infected with syphilis were much more likely to report HIV infection than those not infected with syphilis. In addition, syphilis-infected men were more likely to report unprotected anal intercourse, attending private sex parties, use of illicit drugs and

The defense attorney said, I've never heard anything like it. Even the crook admits he never tried anything this brazen. Then again, it is Michigan-Ohio State weekend. The first thing he wanted me to do, said defense attorney Tully Rogers, was to get him out on bond so he could watch the game. He promised to come right back. I said, 'I don't think the judge is gonna go for that. Maybe we can come up with something else.' What's a crook to do? Jeff Renne, up on forgery charges, thought about the bad checks he'd written. He thought about the punishment, two years in prison. But mostly, he thought about -- as most sports fans do -- the TV reception. And he made up his mind. I am guilty, your honor, he told the judge. He then said he would accept his sentencing, right there, on the spot, if the judge would grant him one request: Let him stay in the local jail through the weekend, rather than send him to the pre-prison reception center. The local jail has television. The center does not. And Renne -- before going up the river -- wanted to watch the game. ...snip... A first grade teacher explains to her class that she is a Barner. She asks her students to raise their hands if they are Barn fans too. Not really knowing what a Barner was, but wanting to be liked by their teacher, their hands fly into the air. There is, however, one exception. A little girl named Jane has not gone along with the crowd. The teacher asks her why she has decided to be different. Because I'm not a Barner she reports. Then, asks the teacher, what are you? I'm a proud Crimson Tide fan the girl said! The teacher is a little perturbed now, her face slightly red. She asks Jane, Why are you a Crimson Tide Fan? Well, my Dad and Mom are Tide fans, so I'm a Tide fan, too, she responds. The teacher is angry now. That's no reason, she says loudly. What if your mom was a moron, and your dad was an idiot. [RollTideFan] Will Iran Strike 1st? (non-Bama serious)
http://wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=35759 Ijaz said a warlord who controls Afghanistan's western provinces, Gulbuddin Hektmayer, is working with al-Qaida on a plan to bring a large army of Iranian Revolutionary Guard troops into Afghanistan during the winter months to attack U.S. interests and to try to take control of the entire country. Iran does not want to see us succeed in building a democracy in Afghanistan under any circumstances, he said. In short, according to Ijaz, Iranian technology is now being used to help the Afghan warlords to take over the country from Hamid Karzai, the Afghan president. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Serious stuff here. No shit. What if Iran actually does invade the US and Afghan troops in Afghanistan? We will have no choice but to repel them then invade Iran to clean it out. The world still has to get more dangerous before it gets safer for our kids grandkids. 9/11/2001 was not the beginning of all this. It began many years earlier even before 11 Israelis were killed at the 1973 Olympic games. It went large-scale when Iraq took US hostages. There were many air problems disasters due to terrorism in the 80's and early 90's. During the majority of the 90's we had our heads in the sand about terrorism. 9/11/2001 brought it home to us. That day was not the beginning of our war. It was the beginning of the end of our war. We must take the fight to every one of the bastards and kill them. Evil exists, people. We must fight to win. I take no credit nor criticism for the below list. I provide it for reference. MITCH ALBOM: Better to sit in jail than miss the game November 21, 2003 BY MITCH ALBOM FREE PRESS COLUMNIST The judge called it the most unusual request I've ever had. And Renne -- before going up the river -- wanted to watch the game. ...snip... [RollTideFan] Iron Bowl 2003
Hot off the press! By: Ward, Butch November 21, 2003 7:46 AM Iron Bowl '03 by: The Goat Man The leaves have fell and it's gettin' cold, It must be time for another Iron Bowl, A lot has happened since Two Thousand and Two, To the Crimson and White and the Orange and Blue... I might as well mention, good ol' Coach Fran, The all-time, hands down, sorriest man, Who the Good Lord might not let into Heaven, I'm glad Oklahoma beat him, by seventy-seven... And over at Auburn the rumor mill, Was bearing down on Tuberville, When he was hearing noises he wanted to muffle, What was Tubby's answer? - The Assistant Coach Shuffle... Meanwhile, Bama thought Coach Price was right, But we didn't know how he spent his nights, Hangin' out with hootchies, carousin' and drinkin', Made us wonder, what was we thinkin'?... So we had to show Coach Price the door, One more ulcer for Mal Moore, You might say Price was not elated, About his story in 'Sports Illustrated'... But it all worked out, we found a coach we like, Don Shula's son, the one named Mike, He's young and smart, he's got lots of class, And through his doors no hookers pass... At this point I cannot neglect, To use a verse to pay respects, Without The Voice of Auburn, Jim Fyffe was his name, Touchdown Auburn! won't ever be the same... Pre-season hype had Auburn the best in the west, We're loaded with hosses, put us to the test!, This is Auburn's year! there were winks, and back-slappin', Now, five lost games later, ... it ain't gonna happen... At Bama the season was a big question mark, Did we have enough depth, would Brody be the spark?, Would the new coaching staff have plenty of knowledge? Would Shula figure out, how to coach in college? Now eleven games later, we're bruised, sore and bloody, Our record's a shambles, Big Al's grass-stained and muddy, But our players never quit, they lay it all on the line, We've come up barely short, in seven overtimes... Our coaches have good game plans but we've got holes to plug, It's hard to do and fight off the injury bug, Brody's been a tough one, he throws the ball with some zing, And that's hard to do with a shoulder busted like a chicken wing... So into Jordan-Hare two mediocres stumble, But do not be deceived, it's gonna be a rumble, 'Cause every coach and player knows that he is on a mission, To be a part of history and carry on the grand tradition... Before we get excited and fill the air with our invective, Let's take just a moment, to get a real perspective, The Tigers and The Tide are getting ready for a war, While half a world away, our kids are fighting for much more... And back here at home, right here in our state, Decent people look for jobs, 'cause things ain't all that great, So as we settle down to enjoy the Iron Bowl game day, God bless Auburn, God bless Bama, and please God, bless the U.S.A Cheers - VO- __ RollTideFan - The University of Alabama Athletics Discussion List Welcome to RollTideFan!
