Phil, I spoke to some family who live near Cullman and they said they would
double Ron's price to make sure you stayed in Atlanta!

I like Atlanta; however, I would like it much better with
about a million less yankees. I remember what Atlanta was
like before the massive yankee influx and prefer that time.
Though possibly unrelated, the quality of barbeque has also
diminished during the past 15 years. I believed Spiced
Right is even cooking with charcoal now, and several good
places have gone out of business or become so generic as
to be useless.

BTW, it isn't just Atlanta. Yankeefication is happening
all across the South. I blame the lax border control under
Clinton (I threw that in for Slef and Javvy's enjoyment).
The last time I crossed Mason's Dixie Line, they were not
even checking IDs.

A Southerner's worst nightmare is a yankee heading South
in a U-Haul truck.

Too late. We already own a small farm there. Also, my dad is
their county commissioner so he can probably slip me in the
back door.

Javvy,
I think the BBQ place you inquired about is called
Andrews. Alas, though, I learned just a week ago that
it has been sold, and the guys who ran it have moved
back to Greece. I haven't eaten there in a while, but
it was a great little place. They had lots of Bama
memorabilia decorating the walls. And it was
rightchere in my 'hood!

of the BBQ place on 1st Ave in East Lake just east

My only Corky's experience was at the Memphis Airport about 18 months ago. I
wasn't the least bit impressed. If I had to guess, the meat was prepared
off-site, refrigerated, reheated, etc. Surely the restaurant version is
better.

The barbecued pork pig served at Bryant-Denny (Jim Nick's) is rather good.
A sandwich will run you about $4.50. And it is piled high with pulled pork.
I'm sure Jim Nick's will be available at Lesion Field for the USM game.
Try it! You'll like it!

Have I ever told you that I miss Lewis Grizzard?

Roll Tide!!

Corky's is a chain out of Memphis. They are usually ranked as
one of the top two barbeque restaurants in Memphis. As with
any franchise chain, the quality depends on the dedication of
the local management. I've been impressed with the Corky's
in Atlanta, but I've heard that some of their locations do not
measure up to Memphis standards.

BTW, did anyone who went to the allbarn game try the barbeque
sandwiches being sold in the concourse near section 39? The
sign said Real Carolina Barbeque. Bullsh!t. I started to
get one for the outrageous price of $4.50 when I noticed this
barbeque was little more than sliced roasted pork swimming
in a vat of hot water. I said no thanks to that. At least
the barbeque sandwiches served at Bryant-Denny are REAL BBQ
(and not too bad at that).

Hey, Phil,
Did you ever try a place in B'ham called Plantation Bar-B-Que (or
something to that effect)? I never had the opportunity, but I will forever
remember the advertisement on the soffet around the building with sayings
such as...Yassa, it's cooked in de pit!
