 I tried the Eircom SMSC for a while but was unreliable. Ended up having
 to use +44 into Vodafone.

Have you considered using sms gateway (winsms.com) and a mobile phone? May
be cheeper that using +44 calls and probably more reliable.

Once again many thanks for you help.

Having real problems configuring
servers alive to send text messages, got it to work once after several failed
attempts. Funny thing was I typed in the exact same details as the last time,
I'm convinced it has something to do with the SMSC number or the network
provider itself; got it to work on T-Mobile in the UK, can't get it to work on
cellnet, any advice?

In now can't even get it to work on
t-mobile anymore, I know I'm doing something wrong, just can't for the life of
me figure out what is.

Any advice would be appreciated.

RE: [SA-list] text messeges

2002-10-08 Thread Dirk Bulinckx

Looking at the numbers it seems both are the same.
 UK Orange  44 07785 43   8,n,1   TAP
and
 UK Vodafone Mobiles (TAP)  44 07785 43  8,n,1   TAP

Most likely they are Vodaphone numbers.
Other Vodaphone numbers I found (but didn't test since I'm not in the UK)
are:
[Vodafone Paging (UK)]  +44 (1459) 106366
Password=ACOA
Library=TAP
ModemConfig=8N1

[Vodafone SMS (UK)] +44 (385) 43
Library=TAP
ModemConfig=8N1

For Orange I found:
[Orange (UK)]   +44 (973) 100601
Pwd=REQUIRED
Library=TAP
ModemConfig=8N1
(not sure if they mean that a password is required or that the password is
REQUIRED)

dirk.

07785 is Vodafone - http://www.warwick.ac.uk/cgi-bin-Phones/nng is a
reasonably good way to decode UK codes. But since +44 7785 43 sends to
all the UK networks (as far as I know, all UK SMSCs do), there's no
reason not to use it to send anywhere, unless you're calling it from a
mobile network, in which case it will make a difference to the cost.

It is definitely Vodaphone's as it is the one quoted in their TAP

am told, as they are trying to get people to use GPRS. So don't try
calling them if it doesn't work - as their Helpdesk appears not to know

 T-mobile couldn't provide me with this info and it's not on the
servers
 alive webpage. Also one more favour; do you have the SMSC number for
O2
 (formerly BT Cellnet)?, the numbers they provided me with don't work
 either.

 Once again many thanks for you help.

 Having real problems configuring servers alive to send text messages,
 got it
 to work once after several failed attempts. Funny thing was I typed in
 the
 exact same details as the last time, I'm convinced it has something to
 do
 with the SMSC number or the network provider itself; got it to work on
 T-Mobile in the UK, can't get it to work on cellnet, any advice?

 In now can't even get it to work on t-mobile anymore, I know I'm doing
 something wrong, just can't for the life of me figure out what is.

 Any advice would be appreciated.

RE: [SA-list] Arch Wireless out paging

2002-10-08 Thread Mike McTee

George,

I've been using SAlive version 3.2.1087 to notify me via my ArchWireless
alph-numeric pager for a few months now. Sometimes I fail to receive
the pages but I think the problem is the patchy pager coverage in my
area and not a problem between SA and ArchWireless.

Below are the settings I'm using:

Devices
Comm:   7E1
Baudrate:   9600

Config.
SMSC No:800-250-6325
Protocol to use:TAP

Message
Password: your 10 digit pager number

I hope this helps.

I could only find this basic question once in the list archives, and
there was no answer to it but I'm hoping someone has hit upon this and
dolved it since.

I'm trying to get the program to send alphanumeric notification via an
arch (archwireless) pager. It is an alphanumeric pager, and we have one
other application running in the building that uses it nicely. Of
course I know the phone number for a modem connection to them, and I
know my own pager number. However, I don't really know all the other
parameters like TAP or UCP and many of the other settings there if it's
UCP. It appears that 1200 and 7E1 is correct for the modem setting, as
I at least get a carrier detect and it looks like _some_ information
changes hands during each attempt.

Anyone on the list gotten this work work with this paging company, and
if so how?

This is version 3.3.1132 in case it matters.

Thanks so much. I'm going to save that info, but I decided to let it send messages to
my Nextel phone/pager/whatever since I already carry it all the time and decided I
don't really like two things hanging off my tail. I'm not too sure its' dialup is the
most reliable either but time will tell, and it's
certainly better than nothing I think.

And to Dirk, yes Arch should be able to answer but I got no response from them via
email where Nextel was quite prompt about it.

[SA-list] Uptime Monitoring and Measuring Delta between to SNMP checks.

2002-10-08 Thread Jack Lyons

FYI: Some more scripts that work with Servers Alive

uptime.asp
I have created an ASP page that should run on any IIS server with the ASP
Component and ActivePerl installed. You may have to make some changes to
the code because I have hard-coded the source of the STmm.log file.
Note: look at the bottom of the Uptime Page for the file. Make sure you
download the filedon't just click on it.

snmpdelta.pl
I have also created a new script that will measure the difference between 2
consecutive SNMP checks.

both are located at http://www.lyonsonline.net/jack/Projects

P.S. I am working on the format of the site, so bear with me while I make
changes.
