From: Ian Spencer So I've now added the hotline messages I have for December 1989 and January 1990 to what was already uploaded and that's it until I've searched through another 'X' layers of junk to find the other MGT and SAMCO tapes. Excellent Ian. Keep on Diggin' ;-) Edwin
RE: Hotline up to end of Jan 1990
Great to hear these things - nice to hear all the old lies trotted out (system 3 and codemasters having games ready for launch...REALLY!) Was wondering about the brochure though - I used to have one of these and remember they made the machine look great. Any chance we could get a pdf of this done - anybody have one anymore? -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Edwin Blink Sent: 22 February 2005 11:41 To: sam-users@nvg.ntnu.no Subject: Re: Hotline up to end of Jan 1990 From: Ian Spencer So I've now added the hotline messages I have for December 1989 and January 1990 to what was already uploaded and that's it until I've searched through another 'X' layers of junk to find the other MGT and SAMCO tapes. I have one of the original brochures. Maybe a little worn now, but it should still scan well. I'll try to do it when I get a spare moment. Mine is an A4 brochure, with very little detail inside! It's on thin glossy card if I remember rightly. RE: Re[2]: Hotline up to end of Jan 1990
Yeah that's the one I remember. It had moodily lit photos with alan and bruce standing face to face, with a couper balancing on their chests. Always though this was a mistake, with them being 'in' the photo - I'm sure they were very proud of their creation, but it did make the computer look like a little 'hobby' machine, rather than a serious contender. You never saw Alan Sugar in an CPC advert did you? -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Andy Chandler Sent: 22 February 2005 13:28 To: Dan Dooré Subject: Re[2]: Hotline up to end of Jan 1990 Mine is an A4 brochure, with very little detail inside! Andy Chandler: Mine is an A4 brochure, with very little detail inside! It's on thin glossy card if I remember rightly. I remember I got something A4ish too. I don't have it anymore. But I remember vaguely that it was not much different than those 4 page adds that showed up in the well know mags: ftp://ftp.worldofspectrum.org/pub/sinclair/magazines/Crash/Issue72/Pages/Cra sh7200011.jpg ftp://ftp.worldofspectrum.org/pub/sinclair/magazines/Crash/Issue72/Pages/Cra sh7200012.jpg ftp://ftp.worldofspectrum.org/pub/sinclair/magazines/Crash/Issue72/Pages/Cra sh7200013.jpg ftp://ftp.worldofspectrum.org/pub/sinclair/magazines/Crash/Issue72/Pages/Cra sh7200014.jpg (Sorry for hotlinking WOS) Dan: Dan I have a brochure - A5, colour and about 8 pages long, text by Nick Dan Roberts - is this the one? Well - probably not SamCo's fault (I'll bet CodeMasters told them the same thing) and it's just about possible that it was true. The full price of launching a game are quite a bit more than just the development costs, so even if CodeMasters had completed a port of Treasure Island Dizzy (forexample, as was widely rumoured at the time and I think a Sam version would be quite plausible from a technical point of view) they may have had a look at Sam hardware sales, and decided it wouldn't be worth their while to go ahead with the QA, publishing, duplication, distribution, marketing and other expensive activities that go along with publishing a high-profile software title. Re[6]: Hotline up to end of Jan 1990
It's done ! You can find it's temporary home at www.jukebox.btinternet.co.uk/sam/sambrochure.rar If anyone would like it scanned better (ie slower) to put on the archives then let me know. If everyone is happy with these scans as they are, then by all means, put these on the SAM site.
