Currently we have to mount samba shares as disks. Then we can provide

What could possibly cause the above behaviour?

2005-02-19 Thread Tony Earnshaw

Håkan Slättman:

I suppose basically my question is: Is there anyway to get Windows to
copy the profile but exclude the 'My Documents' folder?

Maybe you can find your answer at:
 http://www.windowsnetworking.com/kbase/WindowsTips/WindowsNT/RegistryTips/
 Disable/Disablecachingofroamingprofiles.html

 There hou can read:

If you want roaming profiles to not include certain folders, you can
exclude them. Excluding internet temporary files, cookies, and outlook
files can keep the roaming profile small. To exclude folders

 Hive: HKEY_CURRENT_USER
 Key: SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
 Name: ExcludeProfileDirs
 Type: REG_SZ
 Value: Temporary Internet Files;Cookies;Recent;History;Local
 Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Another (better?) way to do this is with the MMC policy editor utility,
which will enable use of point 'n click policy rules. I'm not sure
whether this can be done with the standard MMC snapins, but it can
certainly be done with Nitrobit's Group Policy Editor.

Create an NTConfig.POL file in the root of your netlogon share using the
POLEDIT.EXE shipped with WinNT4.0 and Win2000Server (not shure about
Win20003Server) and any service pack of them, just unpack the
servicepack with servicepacksexename /x and you will find the file.
Use the ADM files next to it, plus the attached one (made by Andrew
Bartlett) and you can redirect lots of folders, to shares, or subdirs of
shares.

Good Luck!

[Samba] User and group ID problems when mounting.

2005-02-19 Thread Goran Cengic
Hi everyone,

I'm using Linux kernel 2.4.29 and samba 3.0.10 with Slackware 10.1 distro and
I'm having trouble getting the mount.smb to respect my uid and gid options.
Whichever uid and gid I specify I get something strange like uid 147926 and
gid 101. I heard someplace that this is a bug in the smbfs kernel module but
in that case it has appeard after the kernel 2.4.22 since I started having
these problems after I upgraded from Slack 9.1 which had that kernel.

Any ideas what is wrong and how I can fix ti?

Best regards,

 Goran

Wrong list but I'll help you 'cause I'm also a Slackware user ;-)

Bump mount.smb altogether. Use mount.cifs.

http://linux-cifs.samba.org

You will have the module with 2.6 by default. For working version in
2.4 you'll need a patch.

Cheers,

[Samba] providing webdav remote access to samba

2005-02-19 Thread mourik jan c heupink
hello all.
I know this is a little bit of topic, but I guess this will interest of
you anyway, and I didn't know where else to ask...

So here it is: Does anyone here provide a webdav remote access interface
to the network? And if yes: what software are you using for it?

I'm currently doing this on my network using davenport.
(http://davenport.sourceforge.net/) Even though this works nicely and
securely (https) I would like to try (if available) some alternatives to
see how they work and perform. I can't seem to find any though,
therefore I'm asking here.

ARE there different programs doing (roughly) the same? (secure web
folders remote access to the samba server) And who uses what?

Thanks, and have a nice weekend!

[Samba] W2K3 domain Single Sign On

2005-02-19 Thread Kurt Lorentzen
After modifying krb5.conf, I successfully joined a FC3 box to a Windows
Server 2003 domain. I can authenticate using kinit, and klist indeed
lists a tgt ticket. After authentication though, I still have to type my
domain credentials whenever accessing a Windows share. Is there a
winbind or samba config lline I'm missing?

Thanks,

But when I try to mount this share with the following:
smbmount //andyson01/clientfiles /home/victor/client -o username=victor

I can use the smbmount for shared directories on another Windows 98

With samba it seems that all architecture's drivers are in use as long

Yeah. I would agree there's a bug in there. Mind filing a bug report for

What is the acl on the directory? (you can get it with
`getfacl /path/to/dir`), and who is the owner?. I seem to remember getting
this when changing permission on something the user does not own. By XP MMC
I guess you mean the file/directory properties dialog? Not sure if you can do
it with the computer management MMC (shares).
Hope that helps,

Not sure of any automatic way of doing it, but you can use the windows
profile copier.
Once the new clean profile has been made:
Right click my computer properties advanced user profiles settings.
Select the old account and click copy to.. choose the new user folder in
documents and settings (this will warn that there is alreadyy a profile there
and it will be cleared just ok it. The last bit to do is change permission
to use (or something very similar) change this to the new username (make sure
you put it in the format DOMAIN\user) - this will copy the profile
flawlessly to the new user.
I think there may be quite a lot of people who would benefit from an automatic
way of doing this - This question is asked at least once a month. Anyone have
any suggestions on how to implement an automatic solution?

[Samba] Samba disk access.

2005-02-19 Thread Peter L
Is there a way to make samba cache the directorys so disk access to the
shared dirs is not needed on login in and dir browsing?

I'm using Samba to share files on some read only mounted NTFS drives. I use
hdparm to spin the disks down, because the files are not used often. But
ever time the client maps the drives thru Samba they spin up. The linux
filesystem has it in cache, so viewing the dir inside linux dont spin them
up. Samba must do something different to the shares, and there is really no
reason to check for locks and so on, because the NTFS are mounted read only
and no one can write to them.

Thanks in advance!

This happens always with yy ever changing and being either an user

I can't get to understand the reasons of this: /etc/passwd and
/etc/group are correct.

In OpenLDAP I only have user/machine accounts, not groups.
I tried net group [add] but it does nothing. Also net groupmap list
shows no entries, which I don't think is correct.

I've read all the howto and googled a lot, but found no answer.

Well, the same as here. Just for ONE user, the gid of user doesn't
exist error remains. This user is part of /etc/passwd, /etc/group, and
member of the Advanced Users group (or whaterver it's called in
English) and it was mapped at least twice with net groupmap add, and
smbpasswd {-a -e} $USER.
This error is driving him crazy 'cause he can't logoff from that host in

Re: [Samba] PDC with NSVSD/smbpasswd ok, but MySQL backend not quite

2005-02-19 Thread James MacLean
James MacLean wrote:
Hi Folks,
Samba-3.0.11.
. Using /etc/passwd, /etc/group, smbpasswd - everything in the PDC
world seems fine.

. Using /etc/passwd, /etc/group, MySQL backend - I can join the domain
but get an error about not being able to find a domain controller when
I try to login to the domain with an mysql user. Logging in as root is
ok, but likely that is because I use both mysql and smbpasswd backends.

. Using the new NSS http://fssos.sourceforge.net/ works ok if I use
smbpasswd.

. Once I switch to NSVS(NSS) and MySQL, I can not log any new users
in, but, if I log in as user who originally got in by being in
smbpasswd but has since been deleted from smbpasswd, I can continue to
login successfully if they exist in the MySQL.

. net rpc group info smbpasswd user gives all group info from
/etc/group.
. net rpc group info mysql only user shows none of the groups they
belong to regardless of there existance in /etc/passwd

Long story short... I can only get a new user logged into a PC via the
domain for their first time if they have an entry in smbpasswd. After
that, being in the MySQL backend appears to be enough.

I can pass along configs if needed, but since it works accept for the
mysql change I didn't want to confuse the problem. I don't see the
NSS/NSVS being any influence, but wanted to show how the solution was
meant to fit together :).

Is this a known limitation in the MySQL backend or more likely, am I
setting something up incorrectly?

thanks,
JES
I am getting there :). I now have :
. The MySQL user table from examples/pdb/mysql/mysql.dump loaded from a
file of users/passwords.
. The new NSS (FSSOS-NSVS) uses it to get the UID.
. Samba uses it for the MySQL backend - no smbpasswd backend.
. Using net rpc rights I was able to have a non-root user used to join
a computer to a domain
. Log into the domain with users from the MySQL database.

The gotcha that was occurring above was that the SIDs I had been
importing were not constructed from this Samba's local SID :
net getlocalsid

I then in haste had the wrong domain in the domain field, so one has to
remember that :).

To change my localsid I did some drastic things :
1. rm /etc/samba/secrets.tdb
2. rm -f /var/lock/samba
3. mkdir /var/lock/samba
4. net setlocalsid newsid
5. Check they are ok with net groupmap list
But 'twas a new install so I did not mind.
I also added the administrator account -500 as described at the bottom
of http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/rights.html
and mapped Domain Users/Domain Admins/Domain guests/Administrators to
local unix accounts, which I verified with net rpc user info someone
in the groups.

But I now see that the NT tool usrmgr has a problem looking that user
accounts. The users all show up, but when I try to expand any I get :

The following error occurred accessing the properties of the user user
The stub received bad data.
The user properties can not be viewed or edited at this time.
Any advice :)?

Log:
Remove bogus DEBUG messages (dump for a failure to parse NTLMSSP,
before trying the alternate format).

This only caused confusion and bug reports...

Log:
Increase limit of mapped SIDS to 0x5000, which is what 2k and later do.
NT has no limit. We still don't respond the way 2k would to requests
larger, which is to actually allocate the memory and send back the entire
response, plus a return status of NT_STATUS_NONE_MAPPED. Still looking
into ways of doing this without crashing windows.

Log:
Generate a sane response to exceeding lookupsids limit. Truncate list to zero
and return NT_STATUS_NONE_MAPPED. This does not crash windows and maintains
the benefit of not overallocating memory. The previous response of
truncating to the MAX limit was not useful because it crashed lsass.exe on
windows (bug opened with MS), and it was also misleading the client to
believe that a complete answer was received.
