[Samba] Samba4 4.0.3 classicupgrade - Error converting string to value for line: CurrentVersion

2013-03-16 Thread Marcos Wolff
Hello everyone,

I'm trying to migrate from samba3 to samba4 (4.0.3 installed from source in
a debian squeeze 6.0.6)

And I'm getting this error:

Setting up the registry
convert_string_talloc: Conversion not supported.
Error converting string to value for line:
CurrentVersion

I found this thread in internet about this
http://samba.2283325.n4.nabble.com/Samba4-domain-classicupgrade-quot-conversion-not-supported-quot-td4642316.html
but
couldn't solve my problem since I deleted every tdb and left only
secrets.tdb and still gives that error.

Any help appreciated

Thanks!
Marcos.

[Samba] How to prevent /var/log/samba/log.[sn]mbd creation?

2012-11-24 Thread Marcos Felipe Rasia de Mello
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=311300

I agree with comment #48, with syslog only = Yes early log messages
should go to stderr. As the current behavior is by design, I ask if
there is some way to prevent these files of being created. log file =
/dev/null did not work (Fedora 18, Samba 4.0.0rc5).

[Samba] Slow opening of .cdr files on corel

2011-09-17 Thread Marcos Longo
Hi there.

I have a ubuntu server with latest Samba 3 installed. It´s a Core 2 quad
CPU with 2g DDR2 Ram.

I get copy speeds as fast as my network can handle (100 Mb) when copying
files with windows 7, so, everything looks just fine.
But when i try to open .cdr files from corel draw things get very slow. And
this only happens if i try to open it from inside corel. If i open a .cdr
file from windows explorer, everything works fine. This do not happen if the
file is in a windows share on another machine, but happens if it is on the
samba share.

Anyone have any clues?
Thanks!

[Samba] samba cuts temporary files from users

2011-03-06 Thread marcos gonzalez
Hi guys

I would like to comment a problem using samba 3.3.2 inside my windows
domain. I have different shared folders, and users detect when opens a file,
every time that goes to save it, appears message file is using by other
application and can't save it If not await 5 minutes more or less. It
generates a lot of temporary files (actually 912) producing false errors and
I don't know If samba is behind the problem. At first I was thinking that
was a Office problem, but other software made the same too.

Someone had the same problem?

Thanks and Best Regards

Re: [Samba] FW: making BDC samba + ldap server

2011-02-27 Thread marcos gonzalez
Hi

Well, all is mounted using openldap,. and I’m thinking how to reduce the
traffic net. My doubt is if I use a slave ldap server inside mail server
when users go to change their password not produce problems synchronizing.
For the rest of points you comment all server has the same version of
openldap and I use postfix and samba 3.3.2 openldap is 2.4

I continue testing, thanks for all your time, this list is very friendly
with me :-)

Can you clarify what your goal is? Your original post said My question is
to reduce the use of net ...

Are you trying to reduce the network traffic between LDAP servers?

Are both LDAP servers OpenLDAP?It looks like you already have
 replication working?

 HI,
 I have a samba/pdc/ldap and a courier/ladp host working fine.
The pdc is the master ldap the courier/ldap is the slave.
No problems! single sign on for windows and outlook (Same user same
 password!)
If it is from interest I can post my setup and relations.

 Hi

Thanks, this howto for me its better. I have other doubt, syncrepl
 needs
to be installed or comes integrated with slapd daemon?

It is all part of the openldap suite.

And to transfer all shared samba folders and profile content, when it's
the better moment? I understand when samba is down or when is up?

Depends on the permissions. However, so long as ALL the files to be
transferred belong to users in LDAP then, with nss_ldap properly
 configured,
any copy that preserves permissions should be fine.

Now you are on to copy your slapd.conf and ldap.conf to your new
 machine:
 Ex: scp slapd.conf root@2machine:/etc/openldap

 deprecated?
 The guide

 http://blog.suretecsystems.com/archives/129-Replacing-Slurpd-using-OpenLDAP-2.4.html

not's easy to understand, not exist other howto more simple?

Here is another guide. The first link is quite comprehensive.
 http://www.zytrax.com/books/ldap/ch7/

The entire online manual is a good read. I highly recommend it.

Now important I do the trick with slurpd. There are many other ways

 but this

 is easy.
Slurpd should be installed on your Master an only there.
So go in to the slapd.conf on your master and put a few lines in
 it

 at the

 end.
Be carefull all tabs must fit exact as this example:

 replica uri=ldap://IPOFYOUR2MACHINE:389
 binddn=cn=youradmin,dc=your,dc=ldap
  suffix=dc=yourc,dc=ldap
  bindmethod=simple
  credentials=securepassword

I understand the part of backup slapd only works with the service
 stopped?

Well Im grateful for all your time :-)

 Thanks and Best Regards

 2011/2/18t...@tms3.com

In my hint I think your samba PDC/Ldap is cuurently working well!
First of all install a second machine with the samba and ldap.
Do not start samba, do not start ldap.
The ldap database should be nearly empty ex:/var/lib/ldap

Now copy your smb.conf to your new machine ex: scp root@2machine
 :/etc/samba

In my hint I think your samba PDC/Ldap is cuurently working well!
First of all install a second machine with the samba and ldap.
Do not start samba, do not start ldap.
The ldap database should be nearly empty ex:/var/lib/ldap

Now copy your smb.conf to your new machine ex: scp root@2machine
 :/etc/samba
Edit the smb.conf to your needs and adjust it to be a bdc:
 domain master=NO
 domain logons=YES
Make a testparm it should succed like this:
 testparm
Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf

Ok in my server the ldap config is inside /etc/ and this file nss_ldap it's
inside /etc/ldap/. i didn't understand why pass this but now I understand
all

 Hi

Ok, and how I config nss_ldap? When I copy all database is included?

Well, the easiest way, for Samba use, is to simply cp your ldap.conf file
for the ldap client application to nss_ldap.conf--cp ldap.conf nss_ldap.conf
(this can be a bit confusing, as openldap uses a file called ldap.conf for
configuring the ldap client as well as a file called ldap.conf for
configuring basic ldap server process. The server file is generally
contained in the directory where configuration files are kept in a
subdirectory called openldap along with files like slapd.conf and is
generally a small file witch looks something like this:

 #
 # LDAP Defaults
 #

 # See ldap.conf(5) for details
 # This file should be world readable but not world writable.

 BASEdc=mydomain,dc=com
 URI ldapi://%2fvar%2frun%2fopenldap%2fldapi ldap://192.168.64.2:389
 # TLS_CACERT /usr/local/etc/openldap/cacert.pem

 #SIZELIMIT 12
 #TIMELIMIT 15
 #DEREF never

whereas the ldap.conf for the client is rather lengthy and contains quite a
bit of information for contacting the ldap server, how the dit should be
 searched, etc.)

And, no, nss_ldap.conf has nothing to do with the ldap server.
nss_ldap.conf can be used to contact an external ldap server, just as the
ldap.conf for the ldap client application can/

Sorry for the newbie questions, If any time comes to barcelona contact me,
you has a beer paid (Daniel too) :-)

Well, now that's quite a generous offer. Much appreciated.

Other important task is to migrate ldap to prepare and slave ldap.

 logon path = \\%n\Profiles\%u
 logon drive = H:

putting the script user.bat into the root profile folder (for example
/var/lib/samba/profiles/user/ ) for every user load their configuration?

 Thanks!

  Hi,
According to me,you can first configure the smb.conf file.
 Use the following

  domain master = yes
 domain logons = yes
 # the login script name depends on the machine name
 logon script = %m.bat
 # the login script name depends on the unix user used
 logon script = %u.bat
 logon path = \\%n\Profiles\%u
 ; logon drive = H:
 # disables profiles support by specifing an empty path
 logon path = \\uccagent\%u
 logon path = \\administrator\%u

Are you using a login script? That should take care of mapping

 shared

You can't use login scripts to setup printers. If the printers are

  Hola Marcos,

I don't know how gurus here will do it, but I'd suggest you go ahead and
create some policy or use the built it windows feature to avoid/permit
 sync

You copuld also tweak registry keys, or do as I did with my users, I
created a Default User using redegit and loading the NTDUSER.DAT hive
 and
deciding which directories should the system keep in sync.

One other problem I see there is that if your clients are XP/2K/7 that
nasty %USERPROFILE%\AppData\local\TEMP directory is sneaking up on your
 sync
proccess, and it tends to grow quite large, so one other suggestion is
 to go
ahead and change TEMP and TMP enviroment variables, be it from My

  Properties Advanced Enviroment Variables
and take that directory to some other place like D:\ or C:\, depends on
  yopur setup.

That's my ywo cents on this, so hope this helps.

[Samba] Samba with OpenLDAP: Failed to issue the StartTLS instruction: Connect error

2008-09-28 Thread Marcos Vinicius Buzo
Hi all. I Am trying to set up samba with openldap with TLS. I have
configured other applications such nss_ldap and smbldap-tools to work
correctly with TLS support.

When I try to smbpassd, I get the following message:

Failed to issue the StartTLS instruction: Connect error
Connection to LDAP server failed for the 1 try!

My box is a FreeBSD 7-RELEASE with samba 3.0.32 and OpenLDAP 2.3.43.

Here is my smb.conf ldap settings:

  ldap admin dn = uid=sysuser,dc=mydomain,dc=com,dc=br
  ldap group suffix = ou=Groups
  ldap idmap suffix = ou=Idmap
  ldap machine suffix = ou=Computers
  ldap passwd sync = Yes
  ldap suffix = dc=mydomain,dc=com,dc=br
  ldap ssl = start tls
  ldap user suffix = ou=People
idmap backend = ldap:ldap://127.0.0.1 (Also tried the FQDN)
  idmap uid = 5000-5
  idmap gid = 5000-5
  ldapsam:editposix = no
  ldapsam:trusted = no

If I do not use TLS it works fine.
I looked at the man pages, and I did not find any settings for the CA
certificate, is it necessary here ?

Thanks.

Re: [Samba] Help needed. Samba 3.2.0rc2 - IDMAP - Windows 2008 Server - ADS Integration - Winbind

2008-07-03 Thread Marcos
Hi,

did you try using nis instead of winbind ???
i'm saying that because you are using MS Identity Management for Unix and this
provides a nis server. this would provide you the same UIDs and GIDs on all
machines.

 ADS Integration - Winbind
 Para: samba samba@lists.samba.org
 Data: Sexta-feira, 27 de Junho de 2008, 8:31
 Hi,

I read at least 100 different documentations during the
 last week and
didn't get it. So I decided to ask the list for help :)

Unfortunately we have to move to a Windows 2008 Server ADS
 in our
company as this is required for some other projects. But we
 want to
keep our nice 5+ samba-server providing fast 50TB+ of
 storage.

So we have to find a way to nicely integrate the storage
 with the new
ADS installed. Therefor I installed a Testlab consisting of
 2 debian
 etch storage-servers with each 12TB lvm-based storage
 attached. Also we
have 2 MS 2008 Server SP1 as PDC and BDC. Further we have
 some Windows
XP 32 and 64 Bit clients as workstations for testing.

Now we setup everything and decided to use samba 3.2.0 as
 there are some
bugs related to W2k8 server are solved. So I build debian
 packages from
experimental for etch an installed them. Then I set up
 kerberos and
samba using security = ads. Everythings works
 great. I can get a
kerberos ticket with kinit also I can join the ADS with
 net ads join
-Uadministrator. I set up /etc/nssswitch to use
 winbind and I can
 request user information successfully.

But now I have to set up shared IDMAP for my samba servers
 to have the
same UIDs and GIDs on all machines. As it would be nice to
 have all that
on the ADS server I tried the following for days without
 success and
that is where I need help:

 - I installed the MS Identity Management for
 Unix
 - I added UID, Homedir, Shell and Default Group
 to the AD User
 - I set Unix Attr for my groups
 - I configured samba to as followed:

 - snip -

 [global]
 workgroup = TESTLAB
 realm = TESTLAB.COMPANY.COM
 netbios name = filesrv001
server string = Samba Storage Fileserver 001 (%v)
 security = ADS
 idmap domains = BUILTIN, TESTLAB
 idmap config TESTLAB:backend = ad
 idmap config TESTLAB:default = yes
 idmap config TESTLAB:schema_mode = rfc2307
 idmap config BUILTIN:backend= tdb
 idmap config BUILTIN:base_rid = 800
 idmap config BUILTIN:range = 800-999
 winbind nss info = rfc2307
winbind use default domain = yes
 winbind nested groups = Yes
 password server = WIN-RXYDW1KO5DH.testlab.company.com
 wins server = WIN-RXYDW1KO5DH.testlab.company.com
 socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF=8192
 hide unreadable = yes
 hide dot files = yes
 unix charset = LOCALE
 log level = 5

 [big_data]
 comment = Very Big Share
 path =  /SERV
 browseable = yes
 guest ok = no
 valid users = @STGT\entenhausen
 create mask = 660
 directory mode = 770
 writeable = yes
 readonly = no
 force group = STGT\entenhausen

 - snip -

 - I cleaned /var/run/samba, /var/log/samba, /var/lib/samba
 - I delete the Join on the ADS
 - Then I rebooted the Linux-Server, re-joined the ADS
 - And I can retrieve the user with getent and it has IT UID

 filesrv001:/var/log/samba# getent passwd tic.tic
 tic.tic:*:20007:10001::/home/STGT/tic.tic:/bin/false

 - But the default group, the home-dir and the shell is not
 right
 - seems like the values are not retrieved correctly from
 ADS
 - also strange: I set up the second storage with the same
 configs
 - only changed names
 - if I retrieve the user-information there
 - it looks like this

 getent passwd tic.tic
 tic.tic:*:20007:1:Tic Tic:/home/STGT/tic.tic:/bin/false

 - so the default-group is changing
 - but its still not the value listed in the ADS

Any ideas on that? Did I get something completely wrong?
 I'll now take a
closer look to the Win 2008 logfiles and I'll check the
 communication
with tcpdump. But I'm mostly stuck and really could
 need some hints.
Or should I try another solution? IDMAP-RID cannot be used
 as we are
 planning a trust domain setup

 Thank you and best regards

  Daniel

[Samba] WERR_INVALID_NAME in printer migrate

2007-08-16 Thread Marcos

Hello!

I'm trying to migrate printer settings from a XP machine to my samba server
but failed:

Hi,

if you use just winbind joined with rpc mode it will
work. you don't need kerberos to run it.

Re: [Samba] upgrade to 3.0.22, problem authenticating to AD

2006-06-14 Thread marcos rocha

Hi Adams,

try to test the following:

- test your connections
- test getent passwd
- test wbinfo -t
- test wbinfo -a user%password

may be you have to rejoin to the domain.

Re: [Samba] Removing Samba+LDAP, replacing W2k3+AD

2006-06-13 Thread marcos rocha

Hi Collins,

I think you can do this but it would be easier if you
try to upgrade a windows server instead of install a
windows server.
I will explain:

- samba server is compatible with windows NT 4 domain,
so install a windows NT 4 BDC in your samba domain
- with thi done, tested and approved - upgrade this
windows NT 4 BDC to windows 2003 domain controller.

I think that if you try to install windows 2003 as a
domain controller of your samba's domain you will get
problem when w2k3 starts the syncronization process
and try to copy/replicate the domain objects.

Marcos

Four years ago, I migrated our network from Windows
 NT based servers to
Linux, Samba+LDAP based setups. This setup has
 worked fine. Last year,
we replaced our Exchange 5.5 server - the last
 real Windows server -
with Scalix. This last decision has come back to
 bite me.

Several new thingys that the boss wants, among
 other things, are
forcing me to implement Exchange 2003. Because I
 know that Exchange
2003 requires AD and my company has three offices
 separated by a WAN,
I'm going to be forced to rip out my Samba
 underpinnings. The fact is,
I don't know the best way to accomplish this.

I know the one way that this will work is to bring
 up an AD domain
beside the Samba domain and move things around by
 hand - but that is
going to cause a unbelievable nightmare with user
 profiles, and machine
accounts, and all the other crap that goes along
 with being part of a
 domain.

So my question is this: Can I bring up a Windows
 2k3 machine as a
member server in the Samba domain. Promote it to
 become an AD Domain
Controller in mixed mode - retaining the domain SID,
 user and machine
accounts and such so that I do not have to touch my
 workstations?

  the configuration.

Almost none of the domain config is stored in
 smb.conf, it's all
updated dynamically in the binary data files when
 you run commands
like 'net join'. You'll need to run things like
 net testjoin etc. to
try to figure out why wbinfo is working but smbd
 isn't.

 Cheers,
 Adam.

if you do a smbd -b and look for LOCKDIR:
 /something/something,
that /something/something is where the debian samba

When a user (under Windows) modifies an Excel or

I have read that this is because Excel Word delete

and recreate a new one with the modifications.
But I didn't find a solution to prevent this.

[Samba] problems printing multiple copies

2005-07-15 Thread Marcos Antonio Dellazari
Hi, I'm using samba 3.0.14 with Suse 9.0 Professional, and cups.
I'm having problems with some hp printers deskjet 870, 890, 970.
Instaling in WinXP clients they lose the capacity to print multiple
copies. In the menu properties and printers preferences, advanced,
the option copies count was disabled, as well as collate.
I have a hp laserjet 2300 and don't have any trouble.

Can anyone help me?
thanks in advance..

[Samba] Inter Domain Trusts

2005-05-15 Thread Marcos Amorim

Hi,

We've tried to set two servers PDC Samba 3 + OpenLDAP as following below:

Network_1 192.168.42.0/24
Network_2 192.168.43.0/24
PDC1(PRJLINUX1) - 192.168.42.2 - NETBIOS NAME = PRJARQ6
PDC2(PRJLINUX2) - 192.168.43.251 - NETBIOS NAME = PRJARQ5
OpenLDAP 2.2.24
Samba 3.0.14a Backports
Deban 3 Woody

OpenLDAP:

The servers are using the same DataBase and the PRJARQ6 is a Slave from
PRJARQ5.

The Networks are connected through VPN (FreesWan) and it's working.

I need to make set Truested RelationShip Two-way and here's the behavior
that was adopted:

First Step: Trusted of PDC1 to PDC2:

In PDC1 (PRJLINUX1) - 192.168.42.2

# smbldap-useradd -i prjlinux2$

In PDC2 (PRJLINUX2) - 192.168.43.251

[EMAIL PROTECTED] /]# net rpc trustdom establish prjlinux2
Password:
Could not connect to server PRJARQ5
Trust to domain PRJLINUX2 established

I did the same behavior to another Server, it's created Account Domain and
the Trusted and after they were showed to Trusting
but when I'm going run the command to list Trusted and Trusting Domain I
get a message error as following:

PDC2 (PRJLINUX2)

[EMAIL PROTECTED] /var/log/samba]# net rpc trustdom list

I took it from the site:
http://info.ccone.at/INFO/Samba/InterdomainTrusts.html
Does Trusted/Trusting work in diferent Networks through VPN?

[Samba] smbfs locking

2005-04-27 Thread Marcos Pinto
I have samba 3.0.10 running on a Debian server. I have other Debian
machines which use smbfs (also 3.0.10) to mount the share. Every now
and again, the mount will lock and an ls inside it produces an i/o
error. If i try to umount the share, it gives me a share busy error.
Now, there is no real i/o error on the server. I have ten client
machines total which mount shares from the server, and even when one's
locked I can access the information from the others. The client
machines in use are in a Real Estate company, which needs to keep
certain documents open for sometimes the entire day. I think that
might be where the problem lies (timeout or some such problem). As
long as documents dont stay open for hours, this problem doesn't
happen. Any ideas on what could be going wrong and what I could try?
Thanks for your help.

[Samba] Problem with files owner and quotas

2004-11-01 Thread Marcos Vinicius Buzo
Hi everybody, first of all I'm an English student, i'm sorry if I make
any mistake about English, please, correct-me =) . I have some
problems with a samba server working as PDC, when I copy some file to
the samba share, the owner of the file is root, so, my quota system
doesn't work. I tried using the FORCE USER = %U option in the [shares]
section, it worked, but I don't know if it is the correct way to do
it, I want to copy a file to the share from windows clients, and that
the owner is %U, Is there any way to do it ?

The samba version I'm using is 3.0.7 and the server is a FreeBSD, the
quotas system in the OS are working ok.

Thanks in Advance,

[Samba] Group authentication

2003-10-20 Thread Marcos Martins da Silva
I have installed samba 3.0.0 on a RedHat 9.0 box. I have used the rpm binary i got
from Canada mirror. The server is a dual Pentium II 400 IBM NetFinity 5000.
Installation was easy. Testparm outputs:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] root]# testparm

Loaded services file OK.

hosts allow = 10., 127.

[desenv]
comment = diretório de desenvolvimento
path = /compart/desenv
valid users = @Desenv
write list = @Desenv
read only = No
wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g gets users and groups from a Win2K domain controller (ROMULO)
with no problem.

The desenv share is configured to permit access from group Desenv, as we can see
from testparm output.
The /compart/desenv path is configured like this:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] compart]# ls -lia
total 12
  16403 drwxr-xr-x3 root root 4096 Out 17 18:57 .
  2 drwxr-xr-x 20 root root 4096 Out 20 17:03 ..
  16404 drwxrwsr-x 23 marcosm Desenv 4096 Out 18 14:34 desenv
Desenv is a global group from my win2K domain (HUCFF) and marcosm is a Desenv
member. Since I could use chown to set Linux permissions to this group and this user,
I assume winbind is working fine.
Samba can see marcosm is member of desenv and also that Desenv (ID:20035) is among
marcosm's groups:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] compart]# getent group Desenv
Desenv:x:20035:santanna,marcosm,velasco,analucia,anabraga,anarangel,trindade,bet

,leonardo,gmps
[EMAIL PROTECTED] compart]# wbinfo -r marcosm

But I can not access the share from win2k neither from linux:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] compart]# smbclient //seth/desenv -U marcosm

tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
But If I put the user marcosm in write list and valid users lines, like this
[desenv]
comment = diretório de desenvolvimento
path = /compart/desenv
valid users = marcosm @Desenv
write list = marcosm @Desenv
read only = No
Everything works just fine as we can see:

Any clues? Thanks in advance.
