[Samba] Windows7 stalling access to mdb files

2011-09-23 Thread Rainer Traut

Hi,

sys: RHEL5 32bit with samba3x packages or latest Sernet rpms (same problems)
small domain with XP and w7 (64bit) workstations

The main use is an old MS Access based app which shares its mdb file on
the server.
It works flawlessly with the XP clients though I have not disabled
OPLOCKs at all, never had any problem with it neither performance nor
any file corruption.

The problem is with Win7;
the app stalls when opening some tables/views.

I have a testcase when copying all tables from the main db to a new file.
The copying slows down at around 85mb nearly to a standstill. On the XP
clients the whole 400mb file is copied w/o problem.

Please give me any advice how to debug this or what logfiles I should send.
I don't have smb.conf atm, will reply to this mail as soon as I have.

Thx

[Samba] Deleted files reappear after login

2007-04-12 Thread Rainer Traut

Hi,

problem is, if someone deletes files e.g. from Desktop in XP, logs out
and logs in again, the files reappear.

They are not deleted in the profile on the server.

The profile is syncing so that changes to files and new files are ok.
Only deleting does not work.

am using:
Redhat EL4 U4, Samba 3.0.24-SerNet-RedHat, XP SP2 Clients.

smb.conf parts:

logon path = \\%L\profiles\%U

Any ideas?

msdfs root = no on the profile share is not enough, profile cannot be
accessed.

host msdfs = no in the global section and everything works again.

Really? msdfs root = no on the profile share is not
enough? I'm asking because I've changed the msdfs root
default to no, and if Vista really barfs at host msdfs = yes
then we might have to reconsider.

[Samba] application 'allway sync' evades sticky bit?!

2007-02-05 Thread Rainer Traut

Hi,

am running:
Redhat EL4.4 i386, Samba 3.0.23d from Sernet, ext3 fs
Samba as PDC

Someone's got the idea to have one big share with access managed by
directory's sticky bit.
This works perfectly well when normal XP or W2k clients work with their
explorer.

But: With 'allway sync', an app to synchronize for example between
laptop and fileserver the program is somehow able to circumvent the
sticky bit settings.

A file created locally on the notebook and synced to the server hast the
wrong group rights:

# ls -la
insgesamt 2116
drwxrws--- 2 cmueller sales4096 5. Feb 15:14 .
drwxrws--- 25 root sales4096 5. Feb 15:14 ..
-rw-rw 1 cmueller awaromgmt 2151561 24. Jan 12:07
SCN_20070122100735_001.pdf

# id cmueller
uid=2(cmueller) gid=1001(awaromgmt)
Gruppen=1001(awaromgmt),1000(awaro),1004(sales)

The sticky bit is set but the file belongs to the user's primary group!

A file created in Explorer is fine though...
How is this possible?

Thx

Re: FW: [Samba] Roaming Profiles oplocks problems

2005-10-17 Thread Rainer Traut

Hi,

this is not a problem with the nvidia driver itself but with the
nvidia service on the windows client.
If this service is started, you cannot save your profile.
I have never found out, why though...

The service is only needed for overriding the 60hz refresh rate in
OpenGl apps, also know as games. :)

So disable the service and you can freely install any of the thousand
differen nvidia drivers.

Hi,

this is most likely a mtu size problem.
PMTU discovery does not work over IPSec connections,
so you have to specify the mtu size in the ipsec connection.

I took the src rpm and made slight changes to the version number for

I'll try these; the rpms from SerNet have been built to co-exist with
the standard, but I would prefer a drop-in replacement.

Are there a good reason why you took out the two patches ? From what I
understand, they are just redundant.

Re: [Samba] problem with ie-cookies (solved)

2005-06-08 Thread Rainer Traut

It's solved, thx to Andreas Burger.

All folders in the profile get the dos flag readonly, when they are
written back to the client from the server.

It seems WinXP SP1 and Win2k SP4 do not like this in the Cookies folder
and refuse to save cookies.

Workaround is a line in the logon script:

attrib -r +s %userprofile%\Cookies

The problem is described here:
http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2004-April/084023.html

This is a very recent driver (75.90) and Windows XP with SP2.
Samba is Redhat EL4 version 3.0.10 with domain logons enabled.

Evrerything works fine if the service is disabled at startup so
I omit my smb.conf.

Question is, is there a solution to have this service enabled?

Re: [Samba] losing access to profile when user becomes domain user instead domain admin

2005-05-18 Thread Rainer Traut
Hi,
thanks for your answer.
I have found the problem, was not as complicated as it looked.
I did not read the error message well enough to see that only some files
could not be saved in the profile.
These were files the user was not the owner and so he did not have
access to them.
Reason was he copied them from the local admin profile.

Once I got this fixed everything is working as expected.
Thank you

Yeah, that's what happens. It's mostly a Windows problem...well not
problem, rather it's security related.

If you're using WinXP, the best way to do this is to using the file and
setting transfer wizard in the non domain account and export the
settings. Then login to the domain account and import those settings.
This way the user needs no special permissions and the profile is fully
restored for the user.

I've done this numerous times, and this is by far the best way to do it.

[Samba] losing access to profile when user becomes domain user instead domain admin

Re: [Samba] RedHat EL 3 rpm spec file and samba 3.0.14a?

2005-04-27 Thread Rainer Traut
Marshall Herington wrote:
Is the RedHat RPM spec file included with the samba-3.0.14a.tar.gz source
files compatible with RedHat EL 3? In other words, are the locations for the
various support directories (/var/lib/samba, /var/cache/samba, etc.) the
same between the RedHat EL 3 version of samba (currently stuck at 3.0.9, I
think) and the official samba.org http://samba.org versions?

I would like to upgrade my installation samba beyond the RedHat sanctioned
version in order to take advantage of the new features and significant bug
fixes that have come along recently. Does anyone have experience with this
type of situation?

Thanks,

Hi,
look here,
http://people.redhat.com/fenlason/.samba/
this is a nonofficial and unsupported 3.0.13 srpm for el3,
I took the last 2 patches out (should be in 3.0.14)
It compiled cleanly with 3.0.14a.
Have this running since then without problem.

[Samba] nvidia service and profiles not updating

2005-04-04 Thread Rainer Traut
Hi,
I am new to the list so please excuse if this has come up recently.
I can reliably reproduce the problem with having the nvidia service
enabled on startup, which comes with their drivers as default active,
stops my machines from having access to their roaming profiles.

Thanks
Rainer
