For the record: TDB works nicely at a site that had over 4000 entries in 2004.
At that time less than 66% of users had been added. I did not hear of any
complaints after initial installation was completed, so it is most probably
still being used today.

The 250 user level was documented as a point at which most Windows networks
end up being split across multiple segments. When this happens it is
advisable to have at least one BDC on major network segments. TDB is not an
ideal solution for PDC/BDC configurations - for such installation the use of
LDAP should be seriously considered.

No it is not limited to 250 users.
The documentation states that usually for under 250 users installations
TDB may be easier and give good results without going the LDAP way.

250 is just an arbitrary line draw in the sand to help in decision
making, no hard limit in the code.

Neither is limited to 250 entries. Where do you have that
data from?

If you using Ldap, no limited for entries. (5000 tested)

But, have you enable log on openldap ?

It is may be the problem...

Could you monitored CPU, SWAP, Interfaces on the server ?

How many entries ?

TDB Database is limited 250 users.

Subject: [Samba] Samba/Winbind slow with Active Directory
Hi all,

I'm looking for answers regarding a problem I'm having with Samba. Since
a year our Samba fileserver is part of out worldwide corporate Active
Directory. Before that Samba was part of our local NT4 domain. Since the
change to Active Directory the Samba server became slower and sometimes
does not respond at all to share requests.
