Requires high-level technical data administration skills in mainframe and
client server databases, strong logical and physical data modeling skills,
and strong analytical, facilitation, project management and communication
skills. Identify and analyze Business Requirements from documents and
end-user discussions. Identify and define the Data Requirements necessary to
support each application and subject area integrated. Identify and define
the Security Requirements necessary to protect the data items. Identify and
define the business rules associated with the data; these should include all
data integrity/constraint requirements. Identify and perform detailed
analysis of all data sources for each application and subject area. Provide
detailed analysis of all data implemented into the database. Provide the
data mapping and associated transformation rules for each data item. Ensure
the accuracy and level of information supports the business requirements, as
well as subsequent development activities. Support and Maintain the project
Data Models at multiple levels of detail and functionality (conceptual,
logical, normalized, relational, dimensional, application-level,
subject-level, integrated, etc.). Validate data models against the business
and data requirements. Ensure the quality, accuracy, integrity, and
conformity to standards of all models. Provide accurate metadata, which
allows full understanding of the project data components. 
Coordinate and synchronize data model with process and technical models.
Identify data and data model inconsistencies and conflicts, and assist the
users in their resolution. 
Transition information and assist the DBA's with physical implementation of
the data models. Transition information and assist the ETL developers with
the data mapping and transformation, and provide additional data analysis as
required during the ETL development phase. Communicate project data-related
information to Architects, DBA's, developers, and the user community. Work
with modeling tools and data repository to maintain project deliverables.
All models and processes must adhere to the SunTrust Architecture.

Primary Experience

 

The ideal candidate will have grown up in Property and Casualty Insurance.
Must be expert in mapping insurance data to complex warehouse environments.
Size of DW not as important as breadth of knowledge of Insurance subject
areas including but not limited to:

 

Different business lines: Commercial (AUTO, Workers Comp, Liability, etc.),
Personal (auto, farm, homeowners, etc.) Reinsurance, Specialty Lines.

 

Different functional areas: Claims, Billing, Rating, Policy Admin, App and
Quote, Management Reporting, GL  accounting, Premiums.

 

Differences in company format: Our client is tying together data from dozens
of business entities and 55 sources.

 

This project will touch every part of their business operations. People with
limited PC exposure (projects with one business line or function) will be
overwhelmed.  The person will be working closely with PM's and managers to
understand and map the data to the warehouse.

 

Other items:

 

*   Will report to a resource manager and work with a PM. 
*   Will not manage projects but will be required to meet and work with
SME's and report activity to a project manager.  Should be familiar with
enterprise project cycles, status reporting, how their activity will report
into a master project plan. 
*   Manager felt that this was more of a Business Systems Analyst with
a data bent.  Maybe they were a developer or DBA that moved up into an
analyst role. 
*   Must be able to map and quantify data from a variety of sources. 
*   Do NOT want a big picture consultative type.  Need heads-down,
immediate productivity.

We seek a Data / Business Analyst (BA) who will work in a team environment
focused on data management strategies and practices to impact information
quality within CRM. Candidate will represent the needs and requirements of
the CRM user community. Candidate will work with users to develop business
and system requirements with the development team to define system design
specifications.

Work Task Responsibilities:

*  Helps to ensure technology aligns with business needs, making sure
technology investments fit strategically and tactically.

*  Assist in the development and completeness of requests including
detailed business case development, value definition, cost assessment,
benefits, risk analysis and resourcing.

*  Analyze applications, needs, problems and requirements to improve
data quality
Perform gap analysis between existing systems/processes and future
systems/processes to determine scope and feasibility

*  Defines, gathers and documents requirements from which IT solutions
are needed.  Translates business requirements into detailed functional
(logical) specifications for development.

*  Document Workflow, operational process and provides business rules
expertise

*  Facilitate discussions related to data quality requirements,
anticipate future needs and opportunities and identify solutions.

*  Lead the definition of detailed business rules for validating and
transforming data and create layouts and specifications for end-user data
quality and monitoring reports

*  Assist with Entity Relationship Diagramming and meta data creation
and maintenance

*  Work with data analysts and subject matter experts to understand data
quality issues and drive the resolution of discrepancies.

*  Develops and maintains systems documentation, inclusive of but not
limited to: business process models, entity-relationship diagrams, flow
charts, data flow diagrams, use case, 'as is' and 'to be' models, system
narratives, design specifications, test cases, training manuals, and user
documentation.

*  Represents the business in change management for their business unit
request
Participate in QA process; identify test cases; explain complex processes;
aid in developing test plans.

*  Participate as extended resource on related approved projects,
assisting in managing scope and implementation of a solution.

*  Investigates and provides resolution to trouble tickets and helps to
estimate scope and impact of problem.

*  Ensure physical implementations satisfy all defined Business
Requirements and System Requirements

*  Determine when to escalate issues to management for resolution

Competencies / Requirements:

*  Bachelor's Degree

*  4+ years database design/development using SQL or PL/ SQL including
conceptual, logical, and physical data modeling and an understanding of core
database structures (i.e. keys, dimensional models, slowly changing
dimensions)

*  4+ years experience as a business/reporting analyst for CRM, data
warehousing and/or business intelligence projects

*  Demonstrated ability to model business requirements into both
relational and star-schema / snowflake data structures

*  Knowledge of data warehousing architectures, ETL tools (Ascential,
Informatica), ERD toolkits (ERwin) and business intelligence tools (i.e.
Business Objects)
Ability to perform detailed data analysis, i.e. determine the structure,
content, and quality of the data through examination of source systems and
data samples

*  Experience leading and facilitating requirements and analysis
meetings, including resolution of conflicts over data and business rule
definitions

*  Ability to work in a team based environment

*  Strong business process and system analysis knowledge.

*  Strong project and task management, and issue resolution experience.
