Smiling more than Bill McCue leading Jean Redpath round the floor? Damn! I
was watching the wrong channel.

There wasn't enough of Jimmy playing solo melodeon for my liking. There
was a snippet of Jimmy and Phil Cunningham duetting on "The Bluebell
Polka". Two things weren't mentioned on the TV: first, that Jimmy said to
Phil, "Noo, remember I'm an auld man, so tak yer time", and second, what
Jimmy thought of Phil's cissy earring.

'Your tuned to Radio Toby...'

Big dilemma here when I thought I'd watch the telly for a bit tonight.
One the one channel, there's a bio-documentary on the life of Dr Alex
Comfort, author of the 'The Joy of Sex', and guru of free love.
On the other, a programme on the life of Jimmy Shand.

Within three days, we lost:

- Jimmy Shand (age 92)
- Victor Borge (age 92)
- W.V.O. Quine (age 92)
- the Singing Postman

I can kinda imagine Borge extending the "phonetic pronunciation"
sketch to handle the notation of Quine's "Set Theory and Its Logic",
but but a collective obituary of all of them would be quite an
achievement.

Yes, actually I could do that. That's actually a really good idea.
Last night I moved the server to a location with alot more bandwidth
which fixed alot of the frequent rebuffering. Then I experimented with
increaing the streaming rate, but I found that it made it rebuffer even
more for people connecting with modems. So I left it at 32 bits, which
is the same as FM radio, which made the rebuffering rate more
acceptable. The fidelty of FM radio sounds good enough for my purposes.
I was able to sucessfully boost the maximum number of connections up to
7.

Unfortunately the Real Audio player doesn't.

Hello,

Actually you could put some occasional Toby Radio id's in. Just put them in
the WinAmp playlist. I seem to remember some automation software around that
would let you do more complex stuff. Another idea is to record two or more
songs in one file and announce what thay are at the end.

I did some stuff in 'show format' using MP3 (two 50 minutes). I used 32k
mono so it would sound decent. Problem is you really need a 56k modem
unless you download. You cannot download live streams. What really
surprised me is people liked that I did not talked over the music. It was
a side effect as I assembled it out of .wav files (including my annoucements)
and did not want to do additional work crossfading it.

I listen alot to techie radio on both TVRO satellite and internet. I think
it is neat.

There are 23 abc versions on the Net, all in D minor. Or D
dorian, of course, though the tune doesn't seem to have any
6ths at all, so never mind.

Well, there are three that are labelled "K:c". But they are
in D minor, too.

Maybe I should put up a version in E minor.

I would think that it's alot easier to play in D minor, at least on the
fiddle. Can it even be played on wind insturments in Em?
