Someone earlier emailed me privately and griped "Why so much Gaelic ??". Then someone else emailed me saying "Why so much stuff from Scotland ? Who are The Old Blind Dogs ??", then someone emailed me asking "Why so much Cape Breton stuff, how about some variety dude !" then someone emailed me saying "Who are all these musicians that I've never heard of?", then someone else emailed saying "Thank you for giving some lesser known artists exposure." Sigh.. So it just goes to show that you can't please everyone even half of the time! [scots-l] Internet Radio Station for Scottish Trad. Music
I am coming out of "lurking mode" to compliment Toby on his Internet station for traditional music. Good selections, especially those from Cape Breton and with Gaelic singing! It is much appreciated, and the timing couldn't be better, especially since our local NPR station in the Los Angeles area (KUSC) has decided to cancel Fiona Ritchie's "The Thistle and Shamrock"as of this week. (BTW, If others in the LA area are unhappy with this development, it might help if they wrote the station to let the management know, at [EMAIL PROTECTED]) Other stations that carry the TS do not have good reception here, so it is really nice to have Celtic music available over the Internet. Last night I moved the server to a location with alot more bandwidth which fixed alot of the frequent rebuffering. Then I experimented with increaing the streaming rate, but I found that it made it rebuffer even more for people connecting with modems. So I left it at 32 bits, which is the same as FM radio, which made the rebuffering rate more acceptable. The fidelty of FM radio sounds good enough for my purposes. I was able to sucessfully boost the maximum number of connections up to 7. Hello, Actually you could put some occasional Toby Radio id's in. Just put them in the WinAmp playlist. I seem to remember some automation software around that would let you do more complex stuff. Another idea is to record two or more songs in one file and announce what thay are at the end. I did some stuff in 'show format' using MP3 (two 50 minutes). I used 32k mono so it would sound decent. Problem is you really need a 56k modem unless you download. You cannot download live streams. What really surprised me is people liked that I did not talked over the music. It was a side effect as I assembled it out of .wav files (including my annoucements) and did not want to do additional work crossfading it. I listen alot to techie radio on both TVRO satellite and internet. Hello folks, I got my latest little project finally working. I have set up an Internet Radio Station using Shoutcast that will play Scottish Traditional Music 24/7. Please do me a big favor if you are interested and go to www.shoutcast.com then do a search for "celtic", then select to listen to my radio station "Tobys Traditional Music".Then it should start streaming music to you if you have either Winamp or the Real Audio Player installed on your computer (both free programs). Please email me offlist and tell how well it works for you. BTW, the music is a mixture of players from Scotland, Cape Breton, a little Irish and a little Chinese traditional music.
