 With all the discussion that's centered around this Song/tune
 Amazing Grace ( and intriguing depth thereof ) I was just
 wondering if anyone know's how well the words work with the theme
 music of Gilligans Island.  This was brought to my attention
 several years ago and stuck with me.

That tune is evidently legendary in the US (like the theme from The
Archers is in the UK) but most people outside the US (me included)
don't know it.  Any chance of an ABC?

This kind of tune-swapping would not be news to anyone familiar with
hymns - that's what the metre code in hymnbooks is for.
