[sdre-l]: salt lake city

2000-06-24 Thread dmarchant1

This show was the greatest I've ever seen. The highlights were j'nuh
and the rising tide. J'nuh was the most beautiful thing I've ever
heard, seriously. In Circles sounded great. I also loved the ending to
the rising tide how they mixed it up a bit and added new pieces. I'm
still thinking of j'nuh. After seeing them play the new songs live,
without all of the production problems that are present on the new cd, I
gained much respect for their new songs. It was easier to listen to the
real music rather than focusing on the cheesy guitars and the
commercially-aimed vocals. How wonderful.

Does the $20 price tag make it more compelling? I hope it's cheaper at the
shows, although I'll shell out whatever it takes anyway.

That's the real advantage of being indie (or, as indie as Sub-Pop is.. at
least they let SDRE chose their own web designer [who was better than the
new one, I might add]..).. t-shirts for under $12. (Well, yeah, there's
other advantages too, but..)

Re: [sdre-l]: television/jermey

Yea,

I hear the same thing. Ironic he choose to mimic a song called Jeremy...

By the way does anyone else see this as SDREs Ghost in the Machine album
(the Police)? Just a thought...

this may just be me, but i think that in when jeremy sings "television" and
then adds the "ee" and on the third time adds more "ooo ooo
ooo"s to it, it sounds just like pearl jam's "jeremy" when he sings the
"o's" towards the end. i just thought that was pretty cool. i wonder
if
jeremy listens to pearl jam... i wonder if more sunny day fans that don't
like pearl jam cause they are too "mainstream" would listen to pearl jam if
jeremy did? hmm... okay i'll stop now ;)
peace out,
kurt

if anybody wants to listen for it, let me know what you think of the
comparison...

[sdre-l]: late comments on drumming

2000-06-24 Thread David Metcalf

the subject was driven into the ground but i have to speak none the less
i think most of you people are just wrong about the whole mature drumming
thing will doesn't suck now, i think he's still just as talented of a
drummer, its just a little boring
while songs like seven or rodeo jones may have been a little hectic, the
parts fit the songs very well
someone made the comment that anyone can learn to play lots of fast fills
that's just not so while how fast one can run down the toms may not but
the ultimate measure of a good set drummer, it definitely shows something
i'm not crying for a return to the days of 'great songs, bad production'
like diary or lp2, the 'maturity' that will shows now is just a little too
restrained for me it didn't bother me with hiftbso at all because the
whole feel of the album was different and fancy-crap drumming would have
sounded real dumb, but with trt, the band as a whole sounds like they're
trying to go for that more aggressive sound of the old days at times (i.e.
killed by an angel)and just a bit more of the fancy-crap drumming would just
put a real nice finishing touch on the sound over-all
if anyone understands the point of all that, hats off

dave

p.s. anyone know about grendel being played live? i know its a very
long-shot, but still, i'd shit myself to hear that song live

[sdre-l]: POLL RESULTS!

2000-06-24 Thread pete

Only got twenty votes but it seems like there was a solid enough pattern
to see how people in general feel... Lets get to the ones that got no
votes..

Disappear
The Ocean
Television
The Rising Tide

This is not to say that these aren't great songs... because they are.
The Rising Tide has gone from one of my least favorites to in my top
three but.. alas... There must losers if there are to be winners, so
there you have it. Here is your favorites...

5th place: Rain Song

4th place (tied). Killed By An Angel
4th place (tied). One
4th place (tied). Snibe

1st place (tied). Faces In Disguise
1st place (tied). Tearing In My Heart
1st place (sort of winner cause it gets my vote). Fool In The Photograph

I guess the results arent really that interesting because everything
tied. But all of the 1st place songs had more than double the amount of
votes that the 4th place ones did. So it is clear that those three
songs are the big favorites.

What is going to be interesting though is when i hold this same poll
again in a month or two. I know that just about every sdre song has
been my favorite at some point or another so this list should change.
So, thanks everyone that voted. Especially the ones who wrote funny
stuff in their votes. It makes stuff like this fun.

[sdre-l]: Merch list and prices - 3rd stop: Boulder, Colorado

2000-06-24 Thread Rob Riss

Hey,

Just got back from the Boulder, Colorado show, and it was simply
fan-tas-tic. Nothing bad to say, except for the fans, who this time are
known for stealing merch from other fans and starting fights after the show,
not to mention the usual screaming for songs they'll never play. Nice job
boulder!

First off, the merch prices. I'm not sure if anyone has written these in
yet, but it's a good thing to know, so i'll do it again.

Shirts - 15 bucks. 3 or 4 choices or so, the coolest being the Thief steal
me a peach shirt on white with a bright orange peach.

Pillowcases - 15 bucks. Comes in a two pillowcase set, written in Jeremy's
script handwriting from How it feels. First pillow case says, "Morning
comes in the dream before we rise", second says, "when we linger side by
side", white cases with light blue writing.

Patches, or "armbands" - 3 bucks, black with a white "rodeo jones" written
across it, pretty big, looks like about 10 inches.

Stickers - a buck each, ouch. Circle stickers in black or red with the fly
on it.

Posters - 2 bucks. Good price, but they're pretty small, with a shot of the
band and sdre written above it. Better than the live poster, but still,
nothing compared to Chris Thompson's artwork.

That's about it. I didn't catch the prices for the CDs or records, but they
had the rising tide LP in double, green vinyl. Cool!!

Notice that the AD site was selling the shirts for 20 bucks? Get yours on
tour while you can, i have a feeling we'll get the money whipped from our
hands indiana jones style when the online store becomes more complete.

Oh, for no knife, shirts were 10 bucks. They did a great job, people were
going nuts for them. Yes, they did close with Mission control, and played
it great. The blonde guitar player can play some mean riffs, and is a great
singer as well. Bass player was tight as hell, too. Amazing band!

Sdre came out, played mainly songs off the new album, one from the pink
album and two from diary, i think just two from how it feels. No need to
review it, just as magical as usual. Between songs, someone shouted "hey
will, foo fighters suck!", which he seemed to not find too amusing, and gave
a gesture that looked like, "hey now, no shit-talkin". Besides that, that's
it!

Have a great night,
-Rob

[sdre-l]: seattle times spread

for those that don't know, the seattle times ran a huge feature on SDRE tuesday... i
finally got a new scanner...

feel like fixing it)
http://www.ysib.com/anthony/sdre/dan-seatimes.jpg
http://www.ysib.com/anthony/sdre/jeremy-seatimes.jpg

i'm just putting these files up so other people can download them and put them on
their pages... i'm hereby giving anyone
permission to do whatever they want with these files. just don't put links to where
they are now to your page, my server doesn't
need anymore traffic. download these and put them on your own page. (of course, this
photos are copyright the seattle times,
so i guess i can't legally really give you permission to do anything, can i?)

anyway, at least check them out... i think they scanned rather well.

the full text of the article is at:

http://archives.seattletimes.nwsource.com/cgi-bin/texis/web/vortex/display?slug=sunn20date=2620query=sunny+day+
real+estate

and thank god it's there, because i was about to type it all out!

anyway, the article is cool... kinda dumbed down for the newspaper crowd, but
definitely shines some light on will's
experiences...
