Re: [seisan] Seisan Sfile problem with Hypoinverse

2024-05-23 Thread Lars Ottemöller
Hi Kyle,

This probably needs a fix in hypoinverse, but until that is done, you should be
able to continue with the old Nordic format by setting NORDIC_FORMAT to 1.0.

Lars

Subject: [seisan] Seisan Sfile problem with Hypoinverse

When using Seisan 13 (mac version) it seems that locating an event in EEV with
hypoinverse causes problems with the components in the output Sfile.
Specifically, instead of calling out the component names it is writing a "2"
for every component.

Previous outputs:

STAT SP IPHASW D HRMM SECON CODA

L56A HZ EP 0 1720 1.25

New phase line output after upgrading to version 13.

STAT SP IPHASW D HRMM SECON CODA

IUPA 2 EP 0 1312 50.58

I wanted to check and see if there are any settings I missed somewhere or if
this might be a known bug. In SEISAN.DEF I have,

NORDIC_FORMAT 0.0

Thanks!

Re: [seisan] Question about CORR

2023-03-09 Thread Lars Ottemöller

Hi Alejandra,

the only way to reduce computation time would be to limit the distance
between events for which correlation is calculated. This may be tricky
considering location errors. It probably would be faster to work with
event files rather than continuous archive, but you may be doing that
already. If the data are locally on your SSD drive, there is not much
improvement possible on the reading speed. As corr was not really
developed for large data sets, you may also want to look at
alternatives. Sorry I don't have a better answer.

Best regards,

Lars

Re: [seisan] SEISAN files conversion

Dear Esref,

conversion between SAC and SEISAN can be done with wavetool. You should
also be able to convert from eev by typing 'sac' and get at least the
event parameters into the headers - please try as I have not used this
in a while.

[seisan] Fwd: seismogram in wavetool

2022-01-14 Thread Lars Ottemöller

Dear Antonio,

unfortunately that would be a new feature, all SEISAN amplitudes are
based on nm. One way to get around it is to adjust the scaling on the
response files, perhaps also not ideal, but an option.

Hello there:

I´m trying to use wavetool (option 3) to generate corrected
accelerograms from MSEED files. It seems that the output is a time
history in nm/sec/sec. This is fine and the output is corrected assuming
one have the appropriate RESP file for the instrument.

However, I wonder if there is a way I can change directly the default
output from nm/s/s to something standard (m/s2, cm/s2 or even g´s) for
plotting these time histories in a different software (i.g.
seismosignal, etc.). Is there an additional step that I could apply to
this output files to bring them form nm to m? I know that I can take
this output files, convert them to ASCII and then with EXCEL I can bring
them to whatever units I want. However, If I have several components,
and several stations, this might get time consuming and complicated.

I’m using SEISAN version 12 on Debian Linux.

I use this command:

$ wavetool -cwav -start 2021121403000 -duration 8300 -wav_out_file
test -format MSEED

I get error messages saying “Number of maximum samples exceeded”, when
I try to extract 8400 seconds or more of data, most of which is
sampled at 200 Hz.

I don’t fully get what the -maxpoints option does, but I don’t think
it will help me.

Can I just change a value in the code and recompile?

if you can see the seisan folders and access files, it is probably a
matter of setting the environmental variables as PATH, SEISAN_TOP,
