RE SD Shelby valve cover gasket question

2007-09-01 Thread Moparmat2000
hi mike

get a fel pro valve cover gasket for an 89 up turbo engine. it will be the
correct one piece neoprene rubber design for your deep groove valve cover, and
not the multipiece you cannot use. you should swap the crankcase baffle to your
new cover as well.

hope this helps

SD Automatic to Manual swap or NOT!

2007-05-02 Thread Moparmat2000
if your careful you can just drill out the aluminum pop rivets 1/8 size
drill that hold the metal part of the console to the plastic part, even swap
out
the ash tray door assy. you remove the automatic console assembly (die cast
metal plate) from the plastic console this way.

pick up a good used manual shift (die cast plate assembly) 84 to 89 daytona
or 84 to 86 chrysler laser. get it sandblast stripped and powdercoated semi
gloss black. and pop rivet it, and the ashtray door back together and into your
original console plastic. standard 1/8 pop rivets work just like factory.

the 87 to 89 shifter and linkage is a better setup than the 84 to 86 , is a
direct bolt in for your laser, and looks the same as a stock 86 speed setup
when the shifter boot covers it. you may want to upgrade to an 87 to 89 A520,
or
A555 manual with its shifter and cables.

i believe the shifter boot assy is still available new from mopar as well as
the shifter knob, shift pattern bezel, and reverse lockout ring assy.

hope this helps.

Re: SD glad to be back

2007-03-10 Thread Moparmat2000
nope she never found out about the pacifica, nor did she ever have a clue as
to what all my parts and stuff was worth. pays to have a friend who owns a
salvage yard to write a value estimate of worth for the shelby and misc parts
for
$500 of which she was awarded $250 LOL. dishonest? maybe. but i wasnt gonna
give her half the value of $7,000 worth of NOS dodge parts, or half the value
of my new engine T ll T3/T4 cost me $2,700 to build, or half the value of my
rebuilt A555 tranny (all new gearset) $1,200 for me to build. as far as i am
concerned she kept all her gold jewelery, and i didnt complain, so the car and
parts was off the table, tho i did get half value of a $500 gold ring she had,
so the car and parts as far as she knew, and was concerned was a wash. you
gotta do what you gotta do, she recieved a healthy settlement. i had to
refinance
a fully payed off home as a result, she got the mortgage cash out. i presume
it will be spent probably within a week LOL.

now for the SD part of the letter. i am looking for the mounting bucket for
the infinity CD player that fits in place of the cup holder/bin thing in a
1988/1989 daytona or lebaron coupe. i have one i got used off ebay but mounting
tabs were broken. the player i have works fine, would be great to get one with
a
player in it for spare parts, but not necessary. anyone got one or can get
one with all mounting tabs intact please let me know. i am starting back up on
the daytona again.

thanks

2007-03-06 Thread Moparmat2000
thank you to all who emailed me privately and otherwise . i am glad to be
back. my hobby cars were always a sore spot with the EX when we were together.
she even had the nerve to say that smoking dope was less harmful to people than
having a car related hobby LOL, i fail to see where doing drugs is a more
constructive outlet than tinkering with cars.never mind the fact that i could
fix
anything she broke and provided well for her for 8 years. oh well either she
will sink or swim now. no kids, and no alimony. she is on her own.

i think i need a girlfriend who is into cars like i am then it will be all

SD I'm back for good this time

2007-03-05 Thread Moparmat2000
Hi All

I am back for good this time. had a little thing called a divorce happen to
me over the past 8 months. aside from being a royal pain in my A$$ this just
delayed me buying my new mustang GT by that much LOL. i reordered it in january
after judged signed the papers, and should have the car within the next 2
weeks or so. i have wanted one of these new mustang GTs since 2005 so i will
likely be driving it a lot when i get it. i'm even getting a day off work to
pick
it up and do my financing, and paperwork. my boss says i get the day off only
if i bring it up to work and give him a ride in it. i am even doing the retro
1960s shelby looking stuff to it.

good news is i still got my 88 daytona shelby Z, and my 87 lebaron turbo
coupe daily driver/beater. its gonna need a ring job soon. got some blow by
going
on. so expect to see more turbo mopar posts and replies from me going from the
technical to crazy. i am glad your all still here. i had to take a break to
sort my life out for a bit. now i got to hit the salvage yards and see what new
stuff came in during the last 8 months i was tending to my personal stuff.

maybe now that i dont have a wife , i now have a life LOL i may make the
yearly SD anniversary get togethers. my ex wife never wanted to go, or wanted
me
to go for that matter.

SD Re SD My 87' GLH-S Shelby Nightmare Begins

2007-03-04 Thread Moparmat2000
OH MY GOD

never ever use a dealership for maintenance or overhaul on your SD or TD.
most of these idiots are barely skilled in doing oil changes and dare i say it
warranty work. if you want to own one of these cars which are now fast
approaching 20 years old, or some of which are even older than 20 years old,
you need
to get the appropriate FSMs for you car, and learn to be a mechanic yourself.
or at least surround yourself with knowledgeable people on your particular
vehicle IE SD or TD folks who can teach you what to do, and the proper way to
do
it.

i have been spinning wrenches on cars since i was 15, was a chrysler dealer
master tech from 1988 to 1992 i am now 38 years old, and have been spinning
wrenches on aircraft as a professional for the last 14 years. i wasnt born with
any of this knowledge, i learned it out of want, and necessity. my 2.2 T ll i
personally tore down and built up for my 88 shelby z is the total deal. fully
blueprinted, balanced, forged pistons, fully ported, intake, head, and exhaust
manifold. turbonetics garrett copy T3T4 hybrid turbo, big siemens deka
injectors, grainger ETC. it hasnt been dynoed. best guesstimate 275 to 300 HP.

yes i had a reputable machine shop do all the machine work i need done. this
part i didnt have the tools for or know how to do, you know a decking machine,
boring bar, valve seat grinder etc. but the teardown, parts chasing, porting,
port matching, and reassembly was handled by myself. engine is done up way
better than stock, detailed to look factory fresh down to the correct paint
colors, bolts, and brackets. it looks stock for the sleeper effect and cost me
around $2500 out the door for all my parts, and machine work labor.
dissassembly,
and reassembly i cant figure in since i did all that myself, and it was a
labor of love for me.

the other list members are 100% correct, you can never rely on a dealership
or service garage. they will screw you ALL THE TIME. i have righted lots of
nightmares on TDs in my neck of the woods, just for joe average who owns em and
makes the mistake of letting their local garage or dealer screw em up in the
first place. even the simplest stuff has em baffled, like the vaccuum hose
diagrams. it confounds these idiots like a damn monkey trying to do a math
problem.
i have seen many a TD or SD with the vaccuum connections put back A$$
backwards after a headgasket swap, and turbo no worky anymore. then they will
tell
you well we gotta take it all apart again cause your turbos shot. tho it went
in
with a good turbo, and a leaking headgasket.

or the dummys at the service garages, or dealerships who dont even know that
the headbolts are stretch bolts, and the torque it all to 65 foot pounds,
install the valve cover and walk away without cracking the bolts that extra 1/4
turn they so desperately need. then your gasket goes poof and your oil looks
like a chocolate milkshake 2 days later, and the dumb A$$ who put the head
gasket
on in the first place is now badmouthing your car saying its a piece of crap
lee iacocca era mopar just because they were too stupid to actually know how
to read a service manual to install the gasket, or vaccuum lines correctly.
typical stone age idiot who couldent find their way around even an old simple
as
hell flat head ford. Hmmm is that a sparkplug or a fuel injector LOL

sorry i am ranting here.
whew helen wheres the tylenol

just my .02 and a whole lotta truth

Re: SD Only 2 speakers? P-Body

2007-02-28 Thread Moparmat2000
i agree. tho the aftermarket stuff works good it doesnt even remotely fit the
look in the dash of a stock system and even gets more cheezy and chinzy with
age compared to the stock stereo unit. i have a vintage infinity ll cassette
deck with 5 band EQ, and surround sound joystick, along with the factory slaved
in single disc CD player that sits below it in the cup holder bin thingy in
my 1988 daytona shelby z.

the stock dodge infinity speakers are 8ohms, and the 6 infinity reference
aftermarket speakers i have for it are only 4 ohms. the aftermarket speakers
being only 4 ohms impedance are so efficient they work fine on the internal
amps
in the factory stereo. no need for the piggy backed amps anymore. i took the
stock infinity amplified speakers out cut the plugs off em for my new speakers
and tossed them in the trash can. half of them didnt work anymore anyway. the
new speakers even fit under the stock speaker grilles.

on my new mustang GT i ordered. the only achilles heal with the stock 4
speaker system is the speakers themselves. standard 5x7 6x8 just like the
daytonas
rear quarter panel speakers, but in 4 places in the doors, and in the rear
deck. i think i will likely install infinity references in this car too. this
car
has the i pod player plug in the center console. and the factory 2 din size
stereo is single disc and plays MP3s it fits the dash well cool vintage look
like a stocker should. tho i am gonna probably get a ford in dash 6 disc
changer
stereo from a F150 since they fit and look the same except you load 6 discs
thru its one slot.

SD RE: Crap Cars PHR 2.2 article

2006-03-08 Thread Moparmat2000
i would have to disagree with you. the article is pretty painful, but
truthful. as a chrysler plymouth dealer mechanic in the late 1980s i had my
share of
snapped camshafts, cracked cylinder heads, blown headgaskets, rod knocks,
faulty distributors, faulty SMECs, LMs, PMs, and last but not least enough of
the
crappy holley 2 barrel feedback carburetors to change out under warranty for
the 2.2 and 2.5L engines than i care to remember. does this mean i love the 2.2
turbo engine any less ? absolutely not !

my daily driver 1987 lebaron turbo coupe was purchased by me with a tick over
200K on its odometer from my local police auction for $110. it had the
prerequisite blown headgasket, with minor stress cracks in the typical water
jacket
areas, and a failed turbo. these were the consequences of the previous owner
not changing the oil frequently enough, and letting the engine overheat, the
latter doing it in. since i had done the necessary repairs, and fixing some
minor broken things in the car it has served me well for 26K miles and over 2
years as reliable tho rattley and creaky daily transport to and from work, and
it
never fails to start anytime i need it to.

i had always said that any turbocharged engine has no business in the hands
of john Q public they dont know how to maintain a turbo engine, or care to
know. the flip side is that this has given us in the SD realm a ready stream of
hop up and replacement parts for our projects. PHR also stated that these
engines are good reliable hot rodded engines in the hands of an enthusiast when
rebuilt properly.

give credit where its due

Re: SD looking for a Lancer Navagator, and nav Qs and answers

2006-01-14 Thread Moparmat2000
all you need to make the navs work again is new switches that you can solder
in. you desolder the old switches off the board and replace them with new
ones. the nav should work no problem. on 85 and 86 year model G and H body cars
with analog dash if swapping in 12 button navs some functions on the 12 button
navs will not work since the speedometer on these is a cable driven unit.
things as such fuel used and miles per gallon will not work since it cannot get
an
odometer input.

85 and 86 models with digital dash everything on the navs will work since
there is an electrical odometer input off the digital dash display to make it
work, on G,J,H body cars from 87 and on there is no cable and the nav should
work
all functions irregardless of weather the dash is digital or analog display
since they all now use an electrical pickup at the tranny.

i sell new replacement nav switches of a better design than the originals for
$12.00 per strip of 12 switches, and $2.00 for shipping and handling. i will
combine shipping on multiple sets of these up to 6 sets of 12

just let me know

SD RE SD 85 Daytona TV show spotting..

2005-12-17 Thread Moparmat2000
yep i used to Hunter when it was first run back in the 80s. before the
reruns. the funny part is the sound dubbing when they used the daytona in
chases.
the sound editors would dub in a carbureted V8 sound. it was pretty funny.
towards the end of the shows run they switched from the garnett red and silver
turbo z to a bright red 1987 or 1988 shelby z hard top.

BTW theres a turbo mopar bit part in the early 1990s movie called Midnight
Run with charles groden and robert dinero. it involves a turbo new yorker
about 3/4 of the way thru the movie. at least they didnt dub a V8 sound over
this
turbo mopar. you can hear the turbo and 4 banger.

The Wraith is the ultimate tubo mopar movie though. the PPG industries turbo
interceptor is outrageous. turbo interceptor was on display at the Walter P
Chrysler museum for a time. i dunno if this exibit has moved or if it is still
there. i have pics of this car on display from the auto show in new york back
in i think 1986. the rest of this movie showcased mopars newest offerings like
a new car brochure.

just figured y'all would want to know

RE SD Identify a real Shelby

2005-11-30 Thread Moparmat2000
all daytonas were assembly line built by dodge i believe in St Louis missouri
assembly plant. shelby gave his input and blessing on the cars styling, and
drivetrain upgrades, but never actually or modified any of them. these are NOT
numbered cars. meaning they were not actually modified by shelby automobiles
in whittier california, and as such they do not have any numbered placards on
the dash showing which number vehicle it was to be modified like #096 out of
500 cars. like the numbered cars do. this is why you can more readily find a
dodge daytona shelby since they were made in a higher volume mass produced
instead of hand modified by shelby after they were built.

i say buy what you like, i have 2 daytonas, a 1988 t top shelby z, a 1987
daytona pacifica t top, and 1 lebaron turbo coupe. none of these are numbered
cars but i dont care. i would rather own what i like styling wise than just buy
something because of its low volume producton. the pacifica is for sale, but is
undrivable as it sits, bad brakes. LMK if interested in it

2005-11-12 Thread Moparmat2000
hi all
a buddy of mine co worker actually is selling his 1990 dodge daytona ES V6 5
speed car. it has all the toys. power windows, locks, tilt, cruise, AC, rear
disc brakes, sun roof. clean interior with no rips or tears. i owned the car
and sold it to him about 3 or 4 years ago so i know its history from then until
now. color is bright blue metallic, with grey cloth interior. Don wants me to
get the car into the hands of an enthusiast since he know how i feel about
these cars. he wants a truck right now so the car needs to go.

the good. car has a new headliner, a new fast ratio rack and pinion, new
master cylinder, new front and rear brakes, and new rear wheel bearings all
this
that i installed before selling it to him. car also has pirelli P6 tires in
good shape about 60% tread left all around. i repaired the broken odometer in
the
speedometer for him last year, by installing a brand new gear set. it didnt
clock mileage for only about 3 months or so but he only drives about 3 to 4
miles a day anyways. car is currently registered, and passed a safety
inspection.
its currently driven daily, and runs out 100%. engine runs great, tranny does
NOT slip and grabs nicely. car currently has 122K on its odometer, car has NO
rust

this car comes with some spare parts as follows:

dash cluster, center console door which is the special fits 1990 daytona only
side hinge in good shape. i know i personally sold it to him. taillamp, good
2 year old Modine replacement radiator, and a good used AC condensor

the bad. car is on its second paint job and is fading badly, had some hail
damage recently, needs some valve guide work or valve stem seals as it puffs a
little oil smoke on startup. pretty common for a mitsu 3.0 of this age. car had
a minor wreck NO FRAME DAMAGE which is how i purchased it, i installed a
replacement door, fender, and rack and pinion, painted to match. car looked
good
when i buffed out the rest of the paint 3 or 4 years ago but has since faded.
his son used the car and had a minor fender bender with it in which i recently
fixed the nose, and installed a good turbo hood to it. and the A/C doesnt
work, it worked until last year then it quit.

this car is a really nice driver/fixer upper. if i didnt have so much crap
going on right now i would buy it back off him since i really liked the car
when
i repaired it originally and was driving it with for sale signs in it for a
while. all it really needs is some body and paint work to repair the hail
damage, and the AC repaired/recharged.

i do not have pix but can get some if interested.
price is $1,200 and is negotiable
car is located in Abilene TX and can be driven home.

SD dash instrument cluster differences

2005-10-23 Thread Moparmat2000
the differences in the 1986 to 1987 G body instrument cluster are more than
just the styling of it. the 84 to 86 G body speedometer is mechanically cable
driven, from 1987 and up the speedometer is electronically driven, and doesnt
use a cable anymore.

that being said everything will swap except the instrument cluster (gages).
starting in 1987 chry co went to an electronic speedometer (NO Cable). the 86
model daytona still had a cable drive speedometer on the G body so the
instrument cluster wont interchange.

if you are swapping the dashpad and parts from your 1986 daytona into your
1987 daytona your best bet is to reuse your 87 daytonas dash wiring harness and
instrument cluster in the 86 dashpad because of this since the wiring from the
1986 daytona will be somewhat different. other than this the dashpad and its
attaching structure itself is unchanged from 1984 to 1989 and will bolt right
in no problem.

so as not to confuse anybody when i say electronic speedometer i am NOT
talking specifically about digital dashes. i am talking about the car having an
electronic pickup at the tranny instead of having a mechanical cable pickup at
the tranny

SD Interior Question

2005-10-20 Thread Moparmat2000
everything will swap for the most part since it was virtually the same
interior from 1984 to 1989 with some minor cosmetic and vendor changes along
the
way, so for the most part everything will swap except the instrument cluster
(gages). starting in 1987 chry co went to an electronic speedometer (NO Cable)
86
still had a cable drive speedometer on the G body so the cluster wont
interchange. if you are swapping the dashboard from your 86 into your 87 you
will need

RE: SD Non stop chime sound, 90 Daytona. Also, looks like a logic mod.

2005-10-16 Thread Moparmat2000
actually the BCM does NOT control the pop up headlamps or headlamp doors on
the 90/91 daytona or lebaron. the 1990 daytona and lebaron both have a headlamp
control module with relays inside it like the 87 to 89 cars do, even the plug
is the same, box is differently shaped tho, actually black plastic and shaped
like a square block about the same size and shape as a klondike ice cream
bar, and is mounted in the steering column area inside the car on a metal
strap.

the 1991 daytona and labaron have seperate removable replacable relays in the
engine compartment relay box in the L/H fenderwell to maintain and repair
this pop up headlamp/headlamp door function.

as far as the other body control functions that the BCM controls on these
year cars. its true that it controls automatic door lock auto down feature, key
in ignition chime, headlamp on chime, wiper on/delay function, and possibly
cruise control function tho i cannot verify this.

the 1992/1993 BCM from what i have heard will NOT work in the 1990/1991
models since it is programmed in a different computer language and will not
work.
it will plug in tho as connectors are the same, can anybody else verify this??

hope this helps

SD Looks like a logic module, but this is a 1990 Daytona.

2005-10-13 Thread Moparmat2000
this electronics box where the LM would be on an 87 or earlier car is called
the BCM or body control module. used on 1990 and up G and J body. it controls
wiper delay function, key in ignition chime, power locks auto down feature
when car starts rolling etc. possibly even the cruise control function but i am
not sure on that one.

hope this helps

SD track arm bushings

2005-09-30 Thread Moparmat2000
i will take a set of those track bar bushings for my 88 shelby Z. your price
for these is very reasonable especially since your would be the only place i
can get them if you make them. i planned on boxing in my bar and was not
interested in an adjustable one with heim joint ends, or a new one from mopar
so add
me to the list of folks that want these from you. dont know if you remember
me as the guy looking for the rear axle bushings for the 88 shelby z i think i
got a prototype set of these from you.

RE SD RE:engine final drive RPMs now with A520 need info fast facts please

2005-09-02 Thread Moparmat2000
i happen to have ALL the parts to do this conversion twice over including the
console trim plate. i do not need to go to the junkyard for anything. all the
parts to do this to a lebaron are the same as a daytona of the same years,
plus i have done too much work to this car and have too much time in it. this
alone makes it cost prohibitive to just go and get another one, and then fix
all
the screwed up crap that would invariably come with it, or hunt to try to
find a stick shift baron. if i didnt have any of the parts i would have
possibly
just tried to look for a different car. however like the original post on this
subject said. i have all the pieces to do it, just wanted to know what i was
looking at RPM wise at the different speeds before i went ahead and did it.

SD engine final drive RPMs now with A520 need info fast facts please not fiction

2005-09-01 Thread Moparmat2000
hi all
with the higher gas prices upon us i want to convert my 87 lebaron turbo
beater to 5 speed stick for improved fuel economy over the stock 3 speed
automatic
it has. the car has 15 rims with 225 50 R15 tires on it. from some responses
to my earlier post to the list it looks like the A555 isnt going to work out
as the RPMs are going to be the same as what i have now at 70 MPH. what i need
to know from any of you who have an A520 in a G body with 15 rims and 225 50
series tires is freeway cruise RPM at given MPH speeds in 5th gear.

i need to know engine RPM in 5th gear cruising at
55 MPH
60 MPH
65 MPH
70 MPH

i realize there are other fuel saving transaxle ideas around. i really want
it to be stick shift i hate automatics. my friend who owns a salvage yard has a
good A520 in a dodge shadow ES he will sell me for cheap to do this
conversion, and i am hoping an A520 will do the trick.

car with A 413 3 speed auto currently runs

2500 RPM at 55 MPH
2650 RPM at 60 MPH
2800 RPM at 65 MPH
3000 RPM at 70 MPH

i want to drop this RPM down about 500 to 600 RPM less than it currently has
at all 4 of these freeway speeds, and i am wanting to do it all this weekend.
i am hoping an A520 has the overdrive gearing to do this to get me into the 30
to 32 MPG range. car currently gets 27/28 MPG average and travels mostly 65
MPH on the freeway.

TIA for all help in advance

RE SD WTB: lebaron headlight motor, now is how to fix lebaron headlamp motor

2005-08-29 Thread Moparmat2000
if the lamp doors on your lebaron wont go up or down but the headlamp door
motor is working electrically it can easily be fixed. i bought a package of 3
plastic power window drive pins for late model ford power window drive clutch.
you can get these from the help section in your auto parts store made by
motormite for about $5.00. there will be 3 white plastic pins in the package
their
diameters will be about the diameter of a hot glue gun stick. you will have to
shave a little off the plastic pins on the sides of them to get the pins to
fit into the assembly.

you will have to remove the headlamp door motor from the car, and open up its
gearbox. i believe they are 1/4 hex head screws that holds the gearbox cover
on. the gears in the gear box are usually ok. there will be whiteish smashed
plastic pieces in grease looks kinda like hot dog relish. these pieces are the
old broken clutch drive pins. remove and clean all this old stuff out ,
regrease all the moving parts, and install the new drive pins after shaving the
sides slightly to fit. Viola it should work no problem. i fixed my baron
headlamp
door motor in this way 2 years ago. its been working fine ever since.

hope this helps

RE SD T-Top Bags?

2005-08-25 Thread Moparmat2000
i had a group buy on these t top bags quite a while ago as i needed a set for
my 88 shelby Z T top car. a bunch of people wanted them but only 2 or 3
actually sent the money to have these done. i wanted payment in hand before i
put
in the order to have it done since i didnt want to be suck with 15 pairs of top
bags.

my local upholstery shop made them the exact size and seams as the originals
since i had a half destroyed bag for them to use as a blueprint for their
measurements, they even sewed in the velcro for the opening flaps in the exact
spots as the originals, however they made them out of a better marine grade
vinyl
than the cheap crap the originals were made of. its been more than a few
years ago so i dont remember the cost. i am thinking of having a matching set
for
my pacifica T top car made also.

if you are interested let me know. i can get you a price including shipping.
the last sets i had made for those who sent money for them were very happy
with the product they recieved.

if you are interested i can get you a cost to have them done along with a
price for me to ship them to you.

SD re: clutch cable differences

do position the cable differently. i dunno why chry.co. made those changes

SD infinity CD and cassette players

2005-07-28 Thread Moparmat2000
the chrysler premium sound cassette player for 1987 with joystick is a
mitsubishi unit,

the chrysler infinity ll cassette player with surround sound and push button
EQ. with light up LEDs is a mitsubishi unit,

the chrysler slave CD player that is stand alone and mounts below the
infinity l and ll in the daytona and lebaron where the storage cubby/cupholder
spot
is and has a patch cord to plug into both of these stereos is a mitsubishi
unit.

i would know i have 2 of these CD players, and several of these particular
radios. all the stickers say mitsubishi electric co on them. they also say
chrysler infinity on the front. this is only because infinity worked with
chrysler
on the SPEAKER system that went into high end versions of these cars when they
were new. kinda like Delco Bose on certain GM cars of this same era, or Ford
JBL audio for that matter. infinity on the stereo has nothing to do with the
stereo itself rather it had to do with the advertising of the speaker system in
one of these cars

RE SD Bummed out..

2005-07-26 Thread Moparmat2000
yeah
i got your solution right here.

remove the windshield, remove the front fender on the side you got to repair,
fabricate steel sheetmetal patch or combination of patch pieces to fit the
damaged area after you cut out the rusty spot entirely, make sure your patches
allow a correct contour so you can reglue in the windshield to the windshield
opening flange when you are done, and using a wire feed welder install the
patch, primer it, seam seal it, paint it, and reinstall the fender and
windshield.

this is exactly what a good auto body shop would do to fix it if you took it
there.

what you have wrong with that windshield corner is a piece of cake dude. i
have installed and welded in rear quarter panel sections on 40 year old cars, i
was able to get the outer skins new but had to fabricate my own new inner
trunk extensions from flat steel sheet, and bend it on a bending brake since i
could not get those pieces pre made. i have also fixed a rotted out windshield
flange on a 1979 mustang V8 coupe for a friend of mine. i had to fabricate both
upper corners at the top of the A pillar where the windshield glues into the
flange. there was nothing left. it was all rotted away. i made both corners
from 16GA flat sheetmetal stock and welded them in. so in this regard what you
got is really a small fix. to do it the right way the fender and windshield
need
to be removed to get good access.

if you can come to west texas for a few days i could prolly help you redo it,
and i can fabricate the patch and weld it in for you for a couple of $$$s.

or you can get a really big tube of silicone and fill it up LOL

SD newest funniest thing in JEGS catalog

2005-07-01 Thread Moparmat2000
hi all
just wanted to let you all know about the type of adversary we are up
against. you know the ones with the winged honduhs and stuff. this thing that i
found
in the JEGS catalog is as funny as making spinner hubcap ghetto mods using
lazy susans for the bearing assemblies. i believe a list member posted that one
in the past.

this item is a ZEX nitrous show purge kit. i have typed their ad verbatim in
their words not mine it goes on to say

get the look of a nitrous equipped vehicle without the hassle. the ZEX show
purge kit delivers a 15 foot cloud of colored nitrous into the air giving you
all the look of a real nitrous equipped racing vehicle regardless of weather
you have nitrous actually installed on your engine.

its also $350 for this poseur special effect.
i have been taught to never under estimate your opponent, but with them
buying crap like this instead of performance stuff that actually works i dont
think
we have anything to worry about.

SD need alternator advice

2005-06-18 Thread Moparmat2000
hi all
my 1987 turbo baron beater has a tendency to have the lights dim and the
engine will stumble when waiting at a traffic light at night and i can see the
volt gage dropping while it is doing this. all connections are good, the PM is
good. connections to it are clean and tight.i am running the stock chrysler
alternator that it is supposed to have on it. i have a feeling it is not
putting
out enough power at idle when a high draw item such as the lights are on.

some guys awhile back were talking about the nippondenso alternator upgrade
from the later cars 1993 and up, 120 AMP i think it was. is this a plug n play
deal in my car since it is an 87??? any wiring changes i have to make to make
this work, what will it do to my PM??

any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

SD 1987 daytona pacifica FS

2005-06-11 Thread Moparmat2000
hi all
awhile back i wanted to liquidate some of my many vehicles. all of them
actually. i finally decided to offer up most of them but i will be keeping my
88
shelby z and finishing this project.

what i am selling is a 1987 daytona pacifica T 1 T top with A520 5 speed. i
am asking $700 for the car as is but i can include some extra parts that it
needs to fix it. the paint is pretty good shape for a repaint. the stock flat
hood is scratched up and a little dented in spots. i can sell this car with a
clean straight replacement turbo hood in the same color white for a $100
dollars
more the rest of the exterior will clean up nicely with soap and water.
exterior color is white, interior is gray leather.

the good
decent paint, and body(except for hood), engine runs great no knocks, turbo
spools up nice, tranny shifts very good, clutch grabs good doesnt slip. CV
axles do NOT click or pop. has working digital dash. has 12 button nav but
needs
new switches in that. all t top plastic mouldings are in nice condition with NO
breaks or cracks. car has 4 wheel disc brakes W integral park brake, and
parking brake works fine. body, spare tire well, and floorpans have ZERO RUST.
this is a west texas car. i pulled up the carpet to check and they are solid
and
clean. car has t top bags and all the straps to tie them down. and best of all
it has a clean title.

the bad
needs tires they are dryrotted and will not hold air for any length of time.
needs brakes. i dunno what it needs here i didnt look at them. they go to the
floor. master cylinder is out of fluid for front brakes part of system, i
assume a leak. needs carpet and headliner redone. some usual wear on drivers
seat.
windshield is cracked. oil pan needs to be resealed. radiator fan will not
turn on. i replaced the fan temp sensor, fan itself, fan relay, ETC. i think
theres a problem in the wiring harness on the engine. i will include a
replacement on engine stub harness with the car. starter motor is shot.
headlamp motors
stuck in up position. i will include a set of replacement headlamp door motors
with the car. passenger window motor is shot. i will include a replacement
window motor with the car.

car is not registered nor is it drivable as is. the bad things make it seem
junky but its in pretty good shape, and structurally sound with the absense of
rust. its all mostly nit noid mechanical stuff that most of us can fix. i
bought the car to prevent it from getting into the wrong hands. i want it to go
to
a good home. if you are wanting the car to part out for your project or to
make fast cash on ebay that is fine by me, just dont tell me about it as i dont
want to know about it. i will include a few more extra parts with the car as i
find them, however the turbo hood is $100 extra if you want it

car is located in Abilene Texas. you will have to come get the car and bring
a tow dolly or trailer. i will not deliver as i have no means to tow it. i
have pictures available to email you if interested in the car. i accept cash
only.

thanks

SD WTB - 89ish LEATHER power enthusiast seat (charcoal gray

2005-06-09 Thread Moparmat2000
i needed a good cover for my premium charcoal grey cloth drivers seat in my
88 daytona shelby. i found a chrysler lebaron coupe that had an immaculate
passenger seat with the same color and style cloth. i bought the whole seat and
removed the seat cover from it. my local upholstery shop was able to fit it
onto
the drivers side.

the seat covers on these G and J cars are the same seat cover L/H and R/H
until you fit it and pop holes in the sides for the trim pieces, and seat back
hinges. the upholstery shop will reuse the vinyl on the sides of your original
leather drivers seat cover and sew them onto this passenger seat cover, and
make the cutout and sew the attach clips onto the bolster for your seat
switches.

mine came out great. the pockets are sewn into in the seat cushions for the
air bladders on the passenger seat too since its pretty much a universal cover
fitting L/H and R/H until its installed. plus you can find a passenger side
cover in nicer shape since its used less.

hope this helps

SD Dodge Manufacturing List

2005-05-31 Thread Moparmat2000
i have a book called the standard catalog of chrysler from 1914 to 2000. the
dodge brothers company was founded in 1914, chrysler was founded in 1924 by
walter P chrysler from the ailing maxwell chalmers motor car company which he
purchased and renamed. plymouth and desoto were in house made divisions.

this book has lots of history, breaks things down into years and production
figures for each model of each year for each division, and includes information
on options too. some figures for different years are incomplete, but the book
is quite thorough to say the least. its a lot of information to cover almost
a century of automaking. plus its goot lots of black and white factory
photographs. one pic for each model car for each year.

this book is made by Krause publishing, and edited by Kames T. Lenzke. very
good source book to have. can be purchased at any good book store, or they may
be able to order a copy of it for you if it isnt available in the store.

RE SD Does this look right?

2005-05-31 Thread Moparmat2000
are you sure what you were looking at were 88 models. the dash for the 88 and
89 are identical. dash design didnt change until 1990. 3 easy ways to tell an
88 from an 89. the first is look at the build date in the drivers door jamb
on the door itself if its still there or still legible. the 89 model
production run started in october of 1988. anything before that is an 88 model.
the
second thing is the headlamp door motor wiring. the 88 models used a 4 wire
plug
for the door motors, the 89s used a 2 wire plug for the door motors. the third
way to tell is by looking at the VIN specifically the 11th digit as counted
from the left to right. A is 1981, B is 1982, C is 1983, so G is 1988 and H
should denote 1989.

hope this clears things up a bit

2005-05-31 Thread Moparmat2000
the number is actually 1,859 units made with the airbag in the end of 1988
production. this is chryslers official count. or at least what they told me
when
i called them to ask this question a few years ago. i have not seen another
88 turbo airbag or N/A airbag car in my travels to any junkyard. except my 88
shelby that i currently own. most of the daytonas in my local yards are 89
model cars with the 2 wire headlamp motor plugs. the few 88s i have found so
far
with exception to my car had a regular wheel no bag. thats not to say in
different areas of the country may have gotten most of the 88 end of the year
run.
its possible. tho the 3 things i mentioned would prove if it was an 88 or 89.
the VIN digits especially. if you really want to find out for yourself if the
figure for this count is 1,859 or more or less then call the chrysler
historical archives at 1(888)456 1924. i have called them and according to them
this
figure is correct.

Re: SD RE SD Daytona Shelby Production Number ?

2005-05-28 Thread Moparmat2000
that is true about the yards getting cleared due to the rising cost of steel.
however the local salvage yards i have here in abilene texas. i frequent a
lot. i have made friends with the different yards owners. when they get ready
to
clear out a few rows of cars they usually let me know. they give me cans of
flourescent orange spray paint, and tell me to tag the windshields of the ones
i want to save for a while. of course i tag all the G,J,P,H,L,AA bodies i can
find that are either turbo or have good sheetmetal. but mostly G bodies since
that is what i am into.

you got the damned chinese to blame for the rise in steel prices, and the oil
prices. people say we are the biggest users of the worlds oil supply. i beg
to differ. china has blown past us as the biggest user of OPEC oil, and its
going to get worse. china has used up most of its domestic oil reserves
already.
plus with recent changes to chinas economy, and social system there is now the
beginnings of a middle class, and its growing. from the amount of people
china has it will probably be the biggest middle class the world has ever seen.
these people are wanting homes, and property of their own. many of them are
buying automobiles for the first time too. believe it or not i read that Bejing
has several drive in theaters now. many folks there go to these for their
weekend entertainment. GM, Ford, and Chrysler are trying to make major inroads
into
that part of their economy. the new Chevy Aveo micro car is actually a chinese
import made by daewoo a new GM subsidiary coming into the United States. i am
not making this up. go to a chevy dealer and read the data tag on the door
jamb on one of these cars.

i think the U.S. oil companies need to align themselves with Russias Ukos oil
company. theres a lot of cheap oil in siberia. problem is the infrastructure
and roads to get it to port are horrible in these areas.

speaking of oil and gas. part of the problem with the gas prices isnt the
availability of oil but the lack of refineries to make it into gasoline and
diesel fuel. our populations are growing, but the amount of working refineries
in
the US has stayed virtually the same since the 1970s. this is the law of supply
and demand. the EPA and different cities around the country with the NIMBY
syndrome (not in my back yard) have put a stop to adding more refineries
around the country. more cars + less fuel availability = higher prices. the
higher
cost per barrel of oil doesnt help either.

am trying to put up a nice welded steel square tube fence frame with nice
cedar wood pickets screwed to it as a nice privacy fence around my yard. the
cost
of my steel tube i am using has almost tripled in 2 years. thank god the
sections i needed to put up across the front are done now. so the front of my
property looks presentable. i will still continue doing my fence in the back
yard
in the manner i started but will have to complete it in smaller sections at a
time.

i urge us all to try to save as many SD and TD parts as you can for your
future projects and hoard stuff if you can. i have some room to do this, and
will
continue to do so. though the hardest stuff to hoard is body parts and trim
parts.

i am off my soap box now

RE Re: SD Does this look right?

2005-05-28 Thread Moparmat2000
actually the dodge daytona did have an airbag installed in the steering wheel
in 1988. my 1988 shelby Z with a build date of april 1988 has a factory
installed airbag wheel, and the stock wiring harness is a 1988 airbag harness.
this
car was not modded to have this. its a factory harness setup. at the end of
the 1988 production model year airbags were phased in. there were a total of
1,859 daytonas of all type in 1988 produced with the airbag available for
purchase by the public at the end of 1988.

the 1987 and 1988 daytona forward engine compartment harness used a 4 wire
plug for the pop up headlamp motors, the 89 daytona with same dash and interior
used a 2 wire plug for the pop up headlamp motors. my 1988 harness has the 4
wire plugs for the lamp motors as an 88 should but also has all the wiring and
the sensors for the airbag. the harness was unmolested until i cleaned and
rewrapped it.

the vehicle total info on the 1988 daytona with airbags i got from chryslers
historical archives. did they make a production 1988 daytona with airbags. you
bet they did. 1,859 to be exact. for 1987 they did not have an airbag. there
is no record of that at chrysler. plus if they had started doing this in 1987
then all the 1988 models would have had an airbag.

just a small correction and the facts

that may be so and you were the lucky one to have that many 1988 daytonas
with this feature since it was pretty odd for the 1988 model run . however the
figure for the amount that were made this way came right from information kept
at chryslers archives. of the total of 66,407 daytonas made in 1988 only 1,859
daytonas in 1988 towards the end of the model run had the airbag as standard
equipment. all 1989 models of daytona came with the airbag with the exception
of some export models.

SD RE SD Daytona Shelby Production Number ?

2005-05-27 Thread Moparmat2000
the daytona shelby was not a numbered edition low production car. it was
built entirely on an assembly line. shelby gave his input on all years of the
daytona shelby including the CS editions however he never had them at his
whittier
california plant for any Shelby type mods. his name was applied to the car
on the dodge assembly line by virtue of his input. and it was essentially a
performance option package available for the dodge daytona. all that being said
my standard book of chrysler shows were a total of 69,998 dodge daytonas of
all type base, ES, ES turbo, and shelby made in 1989 with no further breakout
available on this car.

one can assume that the cars with more options on them were more rare due to
the fact that most people didnt load these up with options, 1989 was the last
year for the T top too. a majority of the 69 thousand cars were most likely
base model strippo coupes, or the base ES non turbo. since the MSRP for these
was listed at $9,295, and $10,395 respectively. the ES turbo was $11,995 and
the shelby was $13,295. all of these prices are for the basic packages or
upgraded trim levels and dont include extra cost items each particular trim
level
package may not have included in its base price like automatic transaxle, A/C,
leather seats, tilt/cruise, sunroof or t top, louvers, upgraded stereo, power
windows, power locks, illuminated entry, digital dash, overhead console, power
seat, ETC.

i would venture to say the daytona shelby is still pretty rare even tho there
were most definitely more than 500 produced in 1989. you have to look at it
this way. how many of these were wrecked, junked, parted out, stolen, and
stripped ETC. after all this car is 16 years old. most average people regard it
as
an old car or junk. also since it isnt a low production numbered car a lot
of SDrs regard it as a parts car for other projects. i feel this will make this
type of shelby dodge become even more rare in the future.

what helps its collectibility in the future is a numbers matching (original
as factory installed) engine block and tranny case. the last 8 digits of the
VIN sequence number for your VIN number are stamped into the block and tranny
case. this was for theft purposes when the car was new. this now helps with
future collectability as long as all the last 8 digits stamped in these 2 parts
match the last 8 digits on your VIN in the dash. if you are gonna race it, pull
out the numbers matching drivetrain and store it in the corner of your garage
and build up and install something from a donor car. this way if you crack the
tranny case or engine block it doesnt matter much. the car will be worth more
to a collector if you have the numbers matching drivetrain for the car unhurt
and stored away to go with the car if or when you decide to sell it.

you can call the chrysler historical archives at 1(888)456 1924 they may have
a further breakout on actual production figures on just the 1989 daytona
shelby on file, or email me back if you need more information

hope this helps

SD 1987 daytona pacifica FS

2005-05-23 Thread Moparmat2000
hi all
awhile back i wanted to liquidate some of my many vehicles. all of them
actually. i finally decided to offer up most of them but i will be keeping my
88
shelby z and finishing this project.

what i am selling is a 1987 daytona pacifica T 1 T top with A520 5 speed. i
am asking $700 for the car as is but i can include some extra parts that it
needs to fix it. the paint is pretty good shape for a repaint. the stock flat
hood is scratched up and a little dented in spots. i can sell this car with a
clean straight replacement turbo hood in the same color white for a $100
dollars
more the rest of the exterior will clean up nicely with soap and water.
exterior color is white, interior is gray leather.

the good
decent paint, and body(except for hood), engine runs great no knocks, turbo
spools up nice, tranny shifts very good, clutch grabs good doesnt slip. CV
axles do NOT click or pop. has working digital dash. has 12 button nav but
needs
new switches in that. all t top plastic mouldings are in nice condition with NO
breaks or cracks. car has 4 wheel disc brakes W integral park brake, and
parking brake works fine. body, spare tire well, and floorpans have ZERO RUST.
this is a west texas car. i pulled up the carpet to check and they are solid
and
clean. car has t top bags and all the straps to tie them down. and best of all
it has a clean title.

the bad
needs tires they are dryrotted and will not hold air for any length of time.
needs brakes. i dunno what it needs here i didnt look at them. they go to the
floor. master cylinder is out of fluid for front brakes part of system, i
assume a leak. needs carpet and headliner redone. some usual wear on drivers
seat.
windshield is cracked. oil pan needs to be resealed. radiator fan will not
turn on. i replaced the fan temp sensor, fan itself, fan relay, ETC. i think
theres a problem in the wiring harness on the engine. i will include a
replacement on engine stub harness with the car. starter motor is shot.
headlamp motors
stuck in up position. i will include a set of replacement headlamp door motors
with the car. passenger window motor is shot. i will include a replacement
window motor with the car.

car is not registered nor is it drivable as is. the bad things make it seem
junky but its in pretty good shape, and structurally sound with the absense of
rust. its all mostly nit noid mechanical stuff that most of us can fix. i
bought the car to prevent it from getting into the wrong hands. i want it to go
to
a good home. if you are wanting the car to part out for your project or to
make fast cash on ebay that is fine by me, just dont tell me about it as i dont
want to know about it. i will include a few more extra parts with the car as i
find them, however the turbo hood is $100 extra if you want it

car is located in Abilene Texas. you will have to come get the car and bring
a tow dolly or trailer. i will not deliver as i have no means to tow it. i
have pictures available to email you if interested in the car. i accept cash
only.

SD looking to make a simple trade

2005-04-30 Thread Moparmat2000
hi all
i have a stack of 5 used headlamp door control modules for the 1989 G and J
body cars. these modules only fit 89 G and J body, and the interchangable part
numbers are as follows
4437107 and 4503026

i do not have any 89 model turbo mopars in my stable
i am willing to trade these 89 modules i have to anyone who needs them for:

the 87/88 type headlamp control modules with part numbers
4437108 and 4503024

the 87 and 88 ones will interchange with each other but will not interchange
and work on an 89 and vice versa. lebaron and daytona of the same years will
interchange even tho G body has 2 headlamp door motors and the J body has only
1 headlamp door motor, as the control box is the same for both cars.

i have no way of testing the 89 modules since i do not own this year G or J
body car, so its pot luck. i do not care if the 87/88 modules i get on exchange
are intermittent in operation, i will repair them as needed.

let me know if you are interested in this. you pay shipping to get them to me
on your end, and i will do the same on my end sending the 89 modules to you.

i am only interested in the 87/88 module part numbers i have listed.

tho. i
havent seen an 89 lebaron or daytona base non turbo without them and wearing
rear drums in my salvage yards yet. tell tale sign its an 89 look for the old

Re: SD RE SD Last Call!! '87 GLHS # 0567 AS IS $600.00

2005-04-11 Thread Moparmat2000
i was not jumping down jerrys throat about it. i was just pointing out the
fact that eventually these cars are gonna be gone and then when somebody
decides
they want one again in the future they will be so scarce that those who have
them will either hold onto them or demand a high premium for them due to
rarity. i was pointing out the fact that it may be better to squirrel it away
in a
garage or barn somewhere until the time comes that you have the money, and the
time to fix the car properly, rather than just strip it and junk it. if it
has severe rust that cannot be repaired that compromises the structural
integrity, or if its wrecked beyond repair thats a different story. but we are
talking
a GLHS one of 500 made right?? i have never even seen one in person.

i have 3 non numbered turbo cars i currently own. i love them as if they were
numbered cars. i would never think of selling them to a non TD enthusiast,
nor as parting them out ever crossed my mind. i see a lot of TDs in my local
salvage. i seem to be the only guy around my area interested in them. i have
tried to salvage parts off some of these forgotten cars in the junkyard for
future
use. i even rescued 6 TDs. 4 came from the salvage, 2 from auction sale more
than likely were soon to be salvage.

1988 daytona shelby Z T top
(2) 1990 daytona ES models
1987 Le Baron turbo coupe
1989 turbo mini
1987 daytona pacifica T top

the turbo mini and one daytona ES found good homes, the second daytona ES was
totalled by my wife. it was beyond repair, i was lucky she wasnt killed in
the wreck. the other 3 i currently own. i have done my part to try to rescue
some TDs, if i could i would rescue more of them. maybe numbered cars havent
fallen in my lap. but thats ok i like what i have. as far as a lack of buyers
for
these cars i own three of them as evidence of that. i think we all need to
keep trying at car shows, and car cruises to interest other car guys and gals
in
our type of transportation. for some it could be the little cash outlay to go
fast. for others mebbe its just the thrill of driving a turbo car. i am doing
my part here in west texas to keep these cars alive.

RE SD Head Flaw?

2005-04-11 Thread Moparmat2000
the cracks between the valves are normal. there is no water passage behind
this area to cause you a problem. the ones in the triangular water passages
worry me a bit. you can carefully grind those cracks out with a rotary file on
a
dremel tool, and have them TIG welded back up to add material, then resurface
the head. i actually have my welder guy completely weld up these triangular
ports after i grind the cracks out, then using an old head gasket as a pattern
i redrill the holes where they need to be. a round water hole has less stress
on it than the triangular ones with the pointed corners. a crack will seek a
weak point like the points on those triangular holes, and an overheated head
will crack like this.

it is repairable tho. my welder guy does a nice TIG weld job on the aluminum
for me and charges me like $50.00 per head. then they need to be resurfaced
after that tho.

hope this helps

SD RE SD Last Call!! '87 GLHS # 0567 AS IS $600.00

2005-04-10 Thread Moparmat2000
why not just store it until you can get around to repairing it. eventually
with all the strip it and junk it mentality a lot of guys sem to have, these
wonderful little rockets will be gone. if the car is structurally sound and in
restorable condition. a fried piston is no big deal to fix. later on years down
the road when most of these cars are all gone you will want a GLHS again and
you will end up kicking yourself for letting the car go to the shredder. the
prices will eventually climb to outta sight levels. you may be able to piece
together a clone car, but certain key parts are tough to find now, imagine
finding these parts 15 years from now. repops of parts will only happen if
there is
a large enough need for them. we are seeing this now.

this happened with muscle cars, it will eventually happen with these cars
too. especially the low production numbered cars. their prices will be the
first
to climb. to all the naysayers out there this will happen it just takes time.
its all a waiting game. back in 1987 i could have purchased a barn fresh all
original 1968 Hemi road runner for $5,000. car was all original, all there,
numbers matching and was not modified in any way. it still needed a full
rotisserie restoration. i passed on it. restoring it was beyond my experience
and
capability at the time back then. any of you priced a 68 Hemi runner lately???
oh
about $50K restored now.

in the late 1980s all the mopar muscle cars were in the same predicament as
our cars are in now. most of em were just hitting the 20 year old mark at about
that time. nice clean original examples could be had for a couple thousand
bucks, parts cars could be had complete and running for a couple hundred bucks.
decent daily drivers could be had for mebbe $1,000. the salvage yards were
littered with them. does all this sound familiar to you all??? well it should.
mark my words history does repeat itself. the only thing the mopar muscle cars
had going for them that our cars dont, is the lack of obscurity. people seemed
to remember those cars. tho some folks i talk to do remember turbo mopars when
they were new too.

sorry if this post is too long. i have said this before. it will happen you
all just need to be patient, and play the waiting game. a positive high
visibility in car crafting circles doesnt hurt either. taking your fixed up /
restored turbo cars to local car shows, or cruise nights can have positive
effects
for us too. if people seem interested tell them about your ride. get
enthusiastic about what makes a turbo mopar so much fun. tell them the stats
that these
cars can run at the drags if set up properly, give them some web addresses to
check out about our cars. granted car shows are a little boring compared to
dragging, but if it can gain us all awareness, then mebbe we all win. some on
this list like the obscurity of owning one of these cars. but seriously how
many
of us now have 3 or even 6 or more cars because nobody else seems to take an
interest in them. obscurity = lack of parts availability in the future.

how much from matco $$$ wise. i have matcos 2005 catalog and didnt see this

this home made tool with excellent results so i dont need one myself. this tool

for a tool that has one application. but if it is fairly cheap and can be used
with existing tooling they already have then why not.

SD 2.2 / 2.5 common block crank sprocket puller adaptor

2005-04-03 Thread Moparmat2000
hi all
i have a crank sprocket puller adaptor for the common block 2.2 / 2.5
sprockets with the five bolt crank sprockets, also fits oddball 87/88 turbo ll
2.2
with square tooth 5 bolt crank sprockets. i made 2 of these as prototypes, and
i
have a patent applied for / patent pending on this item. i am selling one of
them off since i dont need it anymore. i have it listed on ebay. this item
works super great. it doesnt damage the sprocket when pulling it either. the
response i get on ebay, and its final aucton value $$ wise will determine
weather
or not i decide to go ahead and make these to sell to others in our SD realm.
the auction number for this tool is Item number: 4540796613

please go to this page on ebay, look at this item and either bid on it if you
want it for your tool box, or email me back and tell me what you think of it,
tell me if you think its worthwhile pursuing to make and sell copies of
these. since they are machined of 1/2 steel plate they take some time for me
to
make.

thanks

SD GTC coupe rear coil springs

2005-04-01 Thread Moparmat2000
hi all
i was told the lebaron turbo GTC coupe used a different rear coil spring
(stiffer) than a reg lebaron coupe. i was also told the daytona shelby rear
coil
was too stiff due to extra weight in the rear the lebaron doesnt have, and
would raise the ride height. i have 2 sets of daytona shelby rear coils. i
guess
they wont work. anybody got a set of lebaron GTC turbo coupe performance spec
rear coil springs they want to get rid of??? i only want to buy a set if they
are different (stiffer) than the stock turbo coupe rear coils are. no point in
getting a set from a list member if they are the same as what i have already.
TIA

SD WTB lebaron vert seatbelt parts

2005-03-25 Thread Moparmat2000
hi all
i am looking for some lebaron vert seatbelt parts. specifically the 2 belt
receptacles that go between the seats and console for the front seats. i need
them from 1987 to 1989 year model and would like them in FC5 blue gray as this
is my interior color.

my turbo baron is a hardtop however i removed the passive restraint system
and installed conventional shoulder belts. i flipped the lap belt receptacle
from the passive restraints to the console side and it works however they are
actually too short. pretty hard to reach to buckle up. the ones from a baron
vert
in these years would have the correct color, length, and will buckle
properly.

so anybody got a pair in good shape in this color they would like to sell
me??

thanks

RE SD from Turbo Dodge to Chrysler 300 C, It's got a HEMI, my sad story

2005-03-20 Thread Moparmat2000
well last time i checked an airplane is one of the worst investments you
could ever make next to buying a new car. i would dump the KR-2 to get up some
cash. i work as an aircraft mechanic. aircraft parts are a ripoff because of
the
certification tags they must carry. my buddy wants a square tail 172 i told
him that he is nuts.

theres your cash to redo the turbo, and anything else it needs.

I finally got it back from my teenage son but it has a little trany damage
and
or CV damage ( yet to really look at it close) as well as suspected engine
damage.

sounds like junior has been trying to play street hero or is it street zero
with your 1985 turbo ll vert. BTW i was never just given a car to drive when i
turned 16 by my folks. i had to work a part time job to save up some dead
presidents of my own to get a car, as well as the $$$ for the insurance too,
and
in doing that i certainly appreciated it more.

i hope junior doesnt screw up your PT cruised the same way as your vert has
become in his hands.

oh well you live and you learn, sometimes you learn from other peoples
mistakes too. my kids will be saving their own cash to buy their cars. i will
not
buy them a vehicle nor will i just give then one of mine to thrash.

just my .02 and some common sense

SD Is there a market for pre pre 91 Daytona rear badges(Dodge, Daytona, Shelby Z, P

2005-03-09 Thread Moparmat2000
actually the 87and 88 year model base, pacifica, and shelby Z models used
more of an orangy red color slightly darker than chevrolet orange on the
emblems. there are a few of these emblems still around as NOS mopar parts on
dealers
shelves tho most are NS1 by now.

the 89 , 90 and 91 ES and base models used more of a bright red color on
these same emblems. of course the shelby from 89 up went to decals.

i have a pretty worn but not broken 87/88 daytona pacifica emblem i was gonna
use to make a mould from just to repop a new one for my daytona pacifica i
purchased as another project car.

hope this helps.

RE SD Shelby Z, 1987 4-Sale

2005-02-21 Thread Moparmat2000
ron
i feel your pain. this is why i am totally restoring a 1988 daytona shelby Z
t top car and NOT trying to sell it. i am redoing the car because i owned one
when they were new and had to sell it for financial reasons back in 1992. i
found a well worn example of an 88 model and started my restoration. i dont
care
if these cars wont ever be worth anything this car brings me back to when i
was 18 years old. god willing i want to be 65 years old and still driving this
shelby i am currently rebuilding. i let one slip thru my fingers i wont let
another one go. hell you dont get rich doing car rebuilds / restorations for
profit. unless you restore brass era motorcars, or duesenbergs or something.

build up and enjoy the car for what it is. the grandaddy of sport compacts.
chrysler was way ahead of their time back then in the 1980s. it will take some
time before these cars will be worth something. i could remember when i was 16
years old back in the mid 1980s i bought a 1968 dodge charger with a 383 inch
V8 in running condition for $400. you cant do this today. just empty 68/69
charger body shells with titles are hitting $3,000 on ebay. then you gotta dump
a wad of cash just to make it drivable. i think turbo mopars will end up this
way. forgotten then found again. only time will tell, but for now i am
hoarding cars and parts while they are still cheap and plentiful for when that
day
arrives.

SD 90 Daytona VNT speedo question

2005-02-12 Thread Moparmat2000
your odometer doesnt work because the odometer drive gears are broken from
brittleness due to age and heat. this is pretty common. i can rebuild your
odometer, and install new gears, and guarantee replacement parts and repair
work
for 1 year on your daytona odometer for $100 plus $10 return shipping for a
total of $110 providing the unit is not messed with within the warranty time
frame. the repair includes the new replacement gears i get from a supplier who
custom machines them from dupont delrin plastic for me. i can repair the
daytona
odometers in the electric speedometers from 1987 to 1993, and lebaron
coupe/convertible models from 1987 to 1995

there is no body module fault. the only thing the body module does on your
1990 in regards to speed is lock the electric door locks automatically if so
equipped above a certain speed. it gets this vehicle speed information off the
VSS.

tho i know how to do it i will NOT clock an odometer drum since it is illegal
so please do not ask me this question.

email me if interested in getting this repaired. or call me at 1(325)695 5958

my address is
Matthew Maloney
4609 Sage Circle
Abilene, Tx. 79606

hope this helps

SD headgaskets

2005-02-05 Thread Moparmat2000
i am running a fel pro 9296PT with steel shim built right into it on the
block side on my o ringed 2.2 T ll . i used spray hylomar on both sides of the
gasket and used ARP head bolts. i feel this gasket is good for the o ringed
applications. i believe i was recommended this gasket by Gary Donovan. i feel
this
to be a really good headgasket for o ringed applications.

now my 87 turbo beater lebaron with T l non o ringed block is using a MP 005
headgasket. the head has been welded and resurfaced. 7K miles on this one and
no problems yet. i have no experiences with the cometic headgaskets so i will
not comment on those.

a big part is making sure both surfaces are smooth and flat, making sure both
mating surfaces are clean and dry. using a thread chaser on all the headbolt
holes to make sure the new headbolts will tighten easily and not bind up
giving you a false or lower reading on your torque wrench. i use some 30W oil
on my
new MP headbolt threads so they dont thread in dry. and dont forget once you
tighten every headbolt to spec in foot pounds in pattern with your replacement
headbolts you will need to tighten the headbolts an additional 1/4 turn
tighter in pattern to get the stretch on the bolt. (ARP head studs do not get
additional 1/4 turn)

i have used felpro and MP headgaskets in several 2.2 buildups, and repairs.
never had one of em pop yet.

just my .02 and some experience

SD wheel polisher

2005-02-05 Thread Moparmat2000
i finally got off my dead A$$ this weekend and started work on making my
aluminum wheel polisher for TD wheels and anyhing else that fits a 5 bolt 100MM
circle. i had most of the parts scrounged up to do this as freebies. i did have
to spend some money though. i had to get a 1/2 fan belt, some nuts and bolts,
a can of spray paint, electric cord, 4 diameter pulley for the motor, and a
rheostat to adjust the wheel speed. for the stuff i needed to buy i spent about
$35.00.

this thing will be portable so it can be stored when not being used. i know
some of you jack up your cars and let the wheel spin while the car is running
to polish up the aluminum. i feel this is dangerous for many reasons. i will
have some pictures of this polisher soon for those of you who may want them to
make a variation of it for yourselves.

SD common block Qs

2005-01-31 Thread Moparmat2000
hi all
i know the 89 up common block 2.2s and 2.5s used the same block, same rods,
different crank, and different pistons right??

heres the deal i want to build a 2.5 turbo short block for my beater. i can
score a free common block 2.2 N/A short block from my buddy that runs the
local boneyard. pistons are rusted into the bores. i figured the 2.5 setup
would use a larger diameter piston, and boring the block to fit the bigger
slugs would clean out the whole mess and give me a good bore. i know about
what i need to machine or change to turbo it.
my question is can you bore out a 2.2 common block to fit the 2.5 slugs??or
are the bore diameters the same for the 2.2 and 2.5 common blocks
thanks
