[silk] List etiquette
Dear List, Can someone fill me on the finer points of etiquette on this List? I see a bunch of people talking about not "top posting". Suresh just did that. Also, I am being moderated out on silklist. My messages are being blocked. Ordinarily, I would have simply blocked one or two of the people involved. But here it is Suresh Ramasubramanian himself. I don't wish to get into any verbal brawls on the Internet. Why not have a nice discussion over at a place where the rules are clearly posted? I will be posting all further comments regarding the "James Bonilla - Introduction" on the Buddhist Debate Group facebook group, and not here. There, the rules are clear. Here, nothing is clear. Cheers! - James
Re: [silk] List etiquette
Which specific message would you say is being moderated out? I host the list is all .. and haven’t set any filters, and nor has Udhay. And what “Suresh Ramasubramanian ‘himself’”? On silk, I’m just another member. And I’m getting all these emails you’re sending the list. I would suggest that you check if gmail is moderating you out, by checking your spam folder - or whether gmail is set up to not send you back copies of every email you send to a list. Top posting is, like a preference in food or sex, more a matter of taste for some, and an article of faith for a few others who grew up reading usenet (well, as I did too, but my usenet reading days are fifteen years in the past, plenty of time to adopt such delightfully bad habits as top posting and full quoting in glorious full color html) As for the buddhist debate group, wherever that is, I am not at all sure that I am qualified to debate Buddhism so you’ll excuse me if I don’t join that group. —srs > On 10-Sep-2015, at 7:41 AM, James Bonillawrote: > > Dear List, > > Can someone fill me on the finer points of etiquette on this List? You can always make something be remotely linked to Buddhism. The problem generally is the asymmetry of power e.g. (1) when one person is an admin and another person is not, or (2) when person is a long-time member (and therefore, "known" to everyone) and another person is not If you want to seriously discuss this, you should first remove the asymmetry. For this, the Buddhist Debate Group would be ideal. Indeed, it won't take you more than a few minutes to subscribe to that group as well as to the Buddha Dharma Facebook group. Less time than it took for me to type all this out. Bottomline: with metta, thank you for stating the fact that you are not an admin. (I was confused :) :) ) Now, I see that I am not being moderated out. Thank you for letting me know. - James > > —srs > > > On 10-Sep-2015, at 7:41 AM, James Bonilla wrote: > > > > Dear List, > > > > Can someone fill me on the finer points of etiquette on this List?
