Re: CS Distilled water
Hi Larry, I work/live in Germany and I just checked 5 different brands of empty distilled water bottles I have and none have a skull and crossbones on them. They are VDE 0510 standard and are for household use to include irons, batteries, fish tanks, humidifiers and photography to name a few. And I make my CS from this water. There are a few brands that are labeled not for drinking but they are not the VDE 0510 standard. Hope this helps. Theodore --- larry tankersley la...@webtv.net wrote: Dear list... does anyone know if this is true. Did you know that every bottle of reverse osmosis, distilled, or de-ionized water sold in Europe contains a skull and crossbones on the label? Do you know that the European label states that these waters are only to be used for steam irons and batteries, and not to be given to pets? If Europeans won't drink these waters or feed them to their pets, then do you really think it's okay for you to drink them? .. The statement comes from a site that is selling water treatment Gizze's. I've posted two folks I know, one in Prague and one in Germany and ask them to see if this is true there. Re: CS'bagged' cathode
Hi all; Just wondering how cotton shoe laces like the ones used on tennis shoes would work for electrode bags? Theodore --- Kevin Nolan ken...@optusnet.com.au wrote: Hello all. Another report on trying to eliminate plate-out, inspired by a recent mailing to and from 'Ole Bob'. Some months ago I posted a speculation that wrapping a cathode in eg artificial chamois may dramatically reduce plate-out - because that would greatly reduce the amount of fresh fluid contacting the cathode surface. Since then Bob posted a comment about success using cotton bias tape wrapping - what is called 'bagging the electrode'. I have tried it using fairly thick cotton twill, wrapped twice around a stainless steel plate (40mm X 200mm section) and secured with small rubber bands. For everything else the same, current is reduced about 20% - from ~ 8.5mA to ~ 6.5mA owing to cotton wrap. The big improvement is a dramatic reduction in cathode plate-out, which is now just a thin, fairly adherent film that barely stains the cotton (only at the plate edges). No gunk fall out, no filtering, perfectly clear and sparkly free CS, with moderate levels of both tyndale and metallic taste. NOTE: This is using demineralised water to which citric acid was added, which dramatically boosts conductivity. It means the majority of charge carriers reaching the cathode and reducing there will be H+ ions, not Ag+. Not sure how effective wrapping would be using the traditional LVDC method - ie relying on residual impurities in DW to start things yields nearly all the positive ions in solution as Ag+. regards, Kevin Nolan __ Do You Yahoo!? CSBubbler Filter
Hi Folks, Came across this at a home brewing supply site. Its an in-line air filter for 1/4,3/8 tubing that filters down to .023 microns with 99.99% efficiency. It costs $4.95 and also comes in an autoclavable version for $12.50. Go to www.morebeer.com then to the products catalog and click on (beer water filter) and scroll down to [FIL 90: Sanitary Filter] which is what they call it. I have one of these filters but purchased it for another project. I'm not a bubbler but maybe I'll give it a try. Theodore __ Do You Yahoo!? Great stuff seeking new owners in Yahoo! Re: CSWater Distiller
I don't see a reason why you couldn't use copper tubing as long as your distilling drinking water. In my house the plumbing for the hot and cold water is copper pipe. I just recently tested my water and one of the tests was for copper and the test came out negative and the copper pipe is at least 15 years old! If you go to one of the home brewing supply houses on the web they sell 3/8 and 1/2 coiled copper tubing that would be perfect for a distiller. They use them to cool the wurt when brewing beer. They run between $20.00 to $50.00. They also have high temp plastic tubing. If you need a couple URL's for the home brew sites let me know. Ted Corbett --- Dean T. One of the problems with old moonshine was that it contained a very high concentration of copper, which is toxic in larger amounts. Hi J.C. I just recently purchased the Ole Bob and am totally satisfied with it. It's a no brainer to operate, works from either AC or DC, current limited with auto shut off. Plus with the built in stirrer you can't get much better. Get the canning jar model, I use helmans mayonaise jars, 16 and 32 Oz and it fits perfectly.
