Re: CSArthritis - Fluoride

2013-08-20 Thread Rowena

No. I strain it if it's water I've collected myself in buckets.
Also, I only like to drink it if it's been boiled.
Most of the time I get it from a friend's place. Recently with heavy
rains I've just caught it in buckets from the overflow in a particular
spot where it doesn't go through gutters and downpipes.
I don't have much storage, so I'll be back to my friend's tank once my
supply gives out.
I'm in Australia, and the water comes pretty much straight from
Antarctica, but I still don't trust it not to be chemically polluted via
the world wide fallout.
Also, there are coalmines in our beautiful forested part of the world,
and I don't really trust the roof surfaces.
At least the occasional biplane is probably not spraying chemtrails just
here. Hah, I don't mean biplane, do I? We are not THAT far behind.
Light aircraft. Must have read too much Biggles in my youth.
Radiation - well, I'd rather have hundred year old water from below
ground I suppose.

But not from the coal basin, not really.

Most people are aware that there is a controversy surrounding public
fluoridation of drinking water. Here is a list of ways to obtain
drinking water without fluoride. In addition, I've listed water
purification methods which do /not/ remove fluoride from water.

*Ways to Remove Fluoride from Water*

 * *Reverse Osmosis
   http://chemistry.about.com/od/waterchemistry/a/reverseosmosis.htm
   Filtration*
   This is used to purify several types of bottled water (not all), so
   some bottled waters are unfluoridated. Reverse osmosis systems are
   generally unaffordable for personal use.

 * *Activated Alumina Defluoridation Filter*
   These filters are used in locales where fluorosis is prevalent. They
   are relatively expensive (lowest price I saw was $30/filter) and
   require frequent replacement, but do offer an option for home water
   filtration.

 * *Distillation Filtration*
   There are commercially available distillation filters that can be
   purchased to remove fluoride from water. On a related note: When
   looking at bottled water, keep in mind that 'distilled water' does
   not imply that a product is suitable for drinking water and other
   undesirable impurities may be present.

*These Do NOT Remove Fluoride*

 * *Brita, Pur, and most other filters.*
   Some websites about fluoride removal state otherwise, but I checked
   the product descriptions on the companies' websites to confirm that
   fluoride is left in the water.

 * *Boiling Water*
   This will concentrate the fluoride rather than reduce it.

 * *Freezing Water*
   Freezing water does not affect the concentration of fluoride.

*Steps to Reduce Fluoride Exposure*

 * *Don't take fluoride supplements.*

 * *Read labels on bottled beverages.*
   Unless they are made using distilled or reverse-osmosis water, they
   are probably made with fluoridated public water.

 * *Consider using unfluoridated toothpaste.*

 * *Avoid drinking black or red tea.*
   There are many health benefits associated with chemical compounds
   found in tea, but this may be a beverage to avoid if you need to
   reduce your fluorine intake. Black and red tea come from two
   different types of plants, but both leaves naturally contain high
   amounts of fluorine.

 * *Be wary of tinned fish and canned food items.*
   Fluoride may be used as a preservative.

 * *Avoid black or red rock salt or items containing black or red rock
   salt.*

 * *Avoid using chewing tobacco.*

 * *Avoid long term use of medication that contains fluorine.*
   Certain antidepressants and medications for osteoporosis contain
   fluorine.

Re: CSArthritis - Fluoride

2013-08-20 Thread Rowena
I've always refused any fluoride. Last year I went to a new dentist -
was bundled in to a particular woman at my appointment, as the man I
was booked in to see had bought his own practice in Sydney and left
town. I was given a check-up and clean. She mumbled something I didn't
catch, and plunged my teeth into a strange device and left it there for
a while.

When she took it off I said quite cheerfully: I've never had that
before.  What is it?

Fluoride, she said. There's no fluoride in the water supplies in the
South West. I never said a dicky bird, just took out my tissue and
started spitting, spitting, spitting.

I didn't even bother to tell her that in our town, like it or not (it's
not), there is enough fluoride to please anybody who thinks it should be
there.

I knew I'd never be sitting in HER chair again.

Anyhow, recently I had another check up, made sure it was with the man
my husband sees, and made sure he didn't give me fluoride. He only
laughed. The woman would have given me a lecture. I don't trust
professionals who are pro-fluoride. I think they are either spouting
the party line for my benefit, or don't know which way is up.

Thankyou.

CSArthritis - Fluoride

2013-08-14 Thread Rowena
 There has been plenty written in the past about the link between
Fluoridated water and arthritis, and the reasons behind it.

I thought I was all right; I used Reverse Osmosis water for years. About
30 years. Nice water, probably germ free.

Only recently did I read somewhere that RO water doesn't get rid of
fluoride (though there are some expensive units which are claimed to do
so).

Last year I started using rain water. I noticed after a while that it
had become less dangerous for me to get out of the bath. Everything was
still painful, but there were more things that were possible, if not
pain free.

After some months we decided for the time being to replace the filters
in the RO unit, which had been blocked all this time. We had been
wondering whether to buy a new unit, and decided to postpone it, as we
would have wanted the expensive one.

Almost immediately upon drinking the RO-filtered water, getting out of
the bath returned to being a painful and dangerous task.

This was more valuable information to me than any official
pronouncement. My own joints had spoken.

Since then I have only used rainwater for drinking. Ordinary tap water
for bathing.

I am not doing all the other anti-arthritic things (well, I do make up
some essential oil mixes), but that alone makes a difference. Not pain
free, but able to do more than previously.

  Last year I started using rain water. I noticed after a while that it
 had become less dangerous for me to get out of the bath. Everything was
 still painful, but there were more things that were possible, if not pain
 free.

Add-on not in the sense that it adds flouride!  It's an extra fliter that
gets connected which removes flouride.

Why would you use an add-on fluoride filter if you are trying to get rid of

I use a Berkey water filter.  There is an add-on flouride filter that's pretty
affordable.  My puppies also get the benefit of drinking affordable filtered
water.

 There has been plenty written in the past about the link between
 Fluoridated water and arthritis, and the reasons behind it.

 I thought I was all right; I used Reverse Osmosis water for years. About 30
 years. Nice water, probably germ free.

 Only recently did I read somewhere that RO water doesn't get rid of
 fluoride (though there are some expensive units which are claimed to do so).
