If I open it in Skim, the notes are still there. It has happened on a few files but for the most part I can export the file with notes and I can see them just fine. I don't know what I am doing wrong. If you could please help me I would really appreciate it. PS. I am not very savvy on a Mac yet so I apologize if this is something very stupid that I am doing wrong. Thanks! Nicole Please read the FAQ on the Wiki. Re: [Skim-app-users] Embedded notes on a pdf
Thank you so much Thomas, I am afraid I am not sure where or how I would put this script in, do you know how I would do this? Just to clarify I can usually just click export and then choose the file type as pdf with embedded notes and that usually works with the exception of about 3 files I have been sent so far. Do you think this script would help this? Thanks again for your help! I think this probably trips up every new user. What you have to do is embed the notes into the actual pdf. I put a script at: http://alum.mit.edu/www/toms/ftp/skimembed that you can use. If you can't save with embedded notes, than almost certainly the PDF is print protected, which also means it cannot be saved without the owner password. Do you think this script would help this? Christiaan pointed out that you may not be able to do it at all. I've never seen this problem. In any case, the script is to be run from the command line of Terminal: % skimembed your.pdf If you don't have the script in your path (or don't know what a path is :) put skimembed in your home directory. Start a Terminal (from Utilities). Make the file readable and executable by typing (after the '%'): % chmod u+rx skimembed Then type % ./skimembed without a 'return'. Then drag your PDF icon to the terminal and the location will be given to skimembed. You might need to type the 'return' key. It is likely that this is equivalent to what you are doing already. If skimembed is in your path and you are in the right directory, then the conversion is easier of course. Tom Thomas D.
