Yes, I'd agree - but it was one of the deciding factors behind me NOT getting
an IPAQ and going for a PalmPilot (OK, there's no Linux for the pp yet, but a
Taiwan company is releasing one before Christmas I hear).. I didn't want to
fsck it up and have to ship it back to the USA to have it fixed...

I've been making nice noises to a Compaq lady in Sydney who said she *might*,
and I stress the "might", be able to "acquire" a copy of the software they
use in the USA for me... I'm not putting any great hope on it, but if it does
come off, it will be a definate plus..

But they do sponsor handhelds.org and they DO re-flash it for you if you
fsck it up.

I'd say thats a pretty big plus on the Compaq side.

Some interesting info from Compaq regarding the Ipaq and Linux - while they
admit (on a "support" level) that you can load Linux, they don't support it.

And if you fsck it up, it has to go back to the US for re-flashing - they
will not do it in Australia, nor will they provide the software to do it.

Can anyone recommend some virus filtering software that could be invoked
when processed by sendmail or at least post-processed when aliasing?

Thanks,

Dennis

Better is a difficult to say as I have never used an Agenda. However I
do have an iPaq (Compaq) Pocket PC (64MB/PCMCIA etc) which is ABOUT to
have linux put on it. Little more grunt than the VR3 AFAIK.

I'll also bring it along to the next SLUG meeting.

Hi Again,
well, now I am trying to change the sound configuration under mandrake linux,
but all I can find in KDE is Mandrake Control Panel - I am not sure how to
make changes though. How does one tell linux to use different drivers for
the soundcard?

[SLUG] Sound under KDE in Mandrake

2001-11-10 Thread James Newburrie

Hi Guys,
I have just setup Mandrake on my Hewlett Packard Pavilion 6511. The only
problem is that I cannot get sound happening. Inside these HP boxes they use
a funky combined sound card and modem. Under windows the soundcard appears
as a RipTide audio mixer, but I cannot seem to find how to make it work under
linux. Your help would be most apprechiated.

James.

You might want to check with the hackers on #evolution on irc.au.gnome.org,
they'll certainly be able to help with this (especially if you're using
Ximian packages).

Thanks. I found some more info and the steps are...

1. Do the above :-)
2. Copy your .ttf files into your TrueType directory
3. Install fttools
4. as root execute "mkfttdir" in the above directory (this creates the
fonts.dir file).

And TT fonts should now be available for Abiword etc.

Amavis, on both counts. It's very cool, and blows apart all the compressed
and Microsoft-butchered mail so it can scan the Very Insides. :)

Teamed up with NOD32 or AVP (both proprietary, and 'Eastern Bloc'), it makes
for a very good Windows Weenie Protection Mechanism.

[SLUG] Paintball - Finalised Info

2001-11-10 Thread Craige McWhirter

Okay we have 20 brave souls attending paintball, including all bar two
committee members. The web site has been updated with all the times and
meeting place information.

http://www.slug.org.au/paintball.shtml

There is a map (print it if you're driving) and the link to the
Paintball Place now works since their web site is back up.

If you have been unable to get your deposit to us, we've covered it for
you. Contact the committee to meet up with us during the week or you can
pay the $25 to me on Saturday morning.

We have the current people listed as drivers:

- Myself
- Tony Green
- Ryan McNeish
- "Board"
- Adam Kennedy
- "Woody"

Assuming that everyone has 5 seater sedans, then we have enough cars for
everyone. If you have < a 5 seater sedan, let me know so we can get our
numbers right.

[SLUG] LaTeX: a random walk.

I'm trying to understand some of the classier programmes
to be found in The LaTeX Companion. Not easy, although it would
help if some of them worked when you ran them.

P.144, The random walk in PSTricks is what's the matter.

Can anyone tell me what \setrandim (so spelled) does?
I can't find it in the LaTeX programme anywhere.

Any help ...
