Are you running lockd/portmap? [SLUG] dpkg nfs
I'm trying to use apt-get (Dapper) inside chroot on an nfs partition mounted from an OpenBSD file server, and see the following [retyped from another screen, JIC there are typos]: debconf: DbDriver "config": /var/cache/debconf/config.dat is locked by another process dpkg: unable to lock dpkg status database: No locks available W: Not using locking for nfs mounted lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems W: Not using locking for nfs mounted lock file /var/cache/apt/archives/lock E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2) It looks to me like some of these are warnings, and perhaps innocuous, since packages seem to get installed, but there are errors too, with packages not being configured. Any suggestions how I can make dpkg do (all of) its thing over nfs? -- Christopher Vance -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User's Group Mailing List - http://slug.org.au/ Subscription info and FAQs: http://slug.org.au/faq/mailinglists.html
[SLUG] Kubuntu dapper 6.06 keyboard problems
Have installed Kubuntu 6.06 from LiveCD - everything works OK so far, EXCEPT for the keyboard, which works fine directly from the LiveCD. Shift and 1, 2, 3 , parentheses and split-verical ( can't remember its name) keys give wrong symbols ie shift @ gives " and vice-versa. Having no "hatchmark" key is a real pain when editing files. No help from Google or so far from Kubuntu-org forums, nor anything on Ubuntu forums. On install, keyboard was selected as US. KDE has been updated. Still no fix. Suggestions please - which file do I need to check for keyboard type and which file could I maybe copy from LiveCD boot to hard-disk install? Always a new problem and always something else to learn. Thanks for the help as usual.. ;) I share out a plethora of iCal files using webdav, works fine and was simple to setup. Front end is iCal, backend is Apache+WebDAV on a linux server. Just set up the DAV, point iCal at it and you're away. I've looked at the man page for fstab & googled it, but cant find a solution.. I need to mount it via fstab as i need/want to select a particular mount point, and doing it in gnome (via the connect to servers option) doesnt seem to give me that option. /etc/fstab is used by mount to describe devices it will try to mount. The manpage for mount will give you much more helpful information about what filesystems are currently supported, but it basically boils down to the kernel and mount itself needing support for a particular filesystem before mount will work for you. With that in mind, a few more minutes googling turned up davfs2 ( http://dav.sourceforge.net/ ), which looks like it should do what you want, but I haven't actually tried it at all. Good luck!
