[SLUG] getting Ubuntu to "see" changed DVDRW?
I've replaced my DVDRW (from IDE to SATA) on one of my PCs which is currently running XUbuntu 9.04. The new DVDRW doesnt automount when a disc is inserted. I've googled and as a result looked at the hal policy files but there is no entry there for the DVDRW, nor is there an entry in fstab. Where do I look/what do I change? Surely if a LiveCD can automount drives, then a HD install of the LiveCD should detect changes at boot, or am I just thinking wishfully? Thanks in advance for any guidance. -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User's Group Mailing List - http://slug.org.au/ Subscription info and FAQs: http://slug.org.au/faq/mailinglists.html

To set what channel the widget is changing, right click it and select Preferences and then choose Front in there. [SLUG] Volume control
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 I have a curious situation. I have a Sound Blaster Live card in my Ubuntu64 9.04 system and have turned the internal card off in the bios. The volume control tells me it is set for the Sound Blaster but does not control the volume. I have to open it fully and then adjust the volume from there using the "front" control. The "Master" has no effect on volume at all. Is this normal for Ubuntu 9.04 and if so, how can I set it up so that volume is easily controlled from the widget directly? Re: [SLUG] HTTPD Authenticated User extraction
Big thanks to John & Daniel, I'll give that a go. Kind Regards Kyle John Ferlito wrote: On Sun, Jul 12, 2009 at 09:46:54AM +1000, Kyle wrote: I have a situation where htpasswd access is being used to authenticate user access to a particular URL by apache. Once authenticated, apache processes the relevant URL which is actually a pass-off to Tomcat. What I need to do is get hold of the now-authenticated user-name (i.e. the user name apache has just allowed through) and be able to attach that username to the POST now being sent to Tomcat. Normally this would be accessible using the REMOTE_USER environment variable. I assume that these are also accessible from with a java class run by tomcat. [SLUG] Lenny install problem fixed ..
Reminding me that "Grub likes /boot at /dev/hda1" was the key, and (finally) remembering to size it at 296 Mb. Cheers, Adam. -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User's Group Mailing List - http://slug.org.au/ Subscription info and FAQs: http://slug.org.au/faq/mailinglists.html
