Re: [sussex_mug] Apple Music and what happens to my library....

2022-01-08 Thread Toby Leighton
I had to discipline myself to care less about the quality and accept when
things are “good enough” I too can absolutely hear the difference in lower
bitrates (~128), and I don’t believe I have golden ears or am some sort of
audiophile. When I’m at home, in peace and quiet, listening to music yes
absolutely I want the lossless files, or put on a record and listen to it,
and sometimes rarely now even put a CD in the player. However when I’m out
and about lossy music on my iPhone while walking about or driving is
absolutely acceptable. There’s all the noise of the outside world so you
aren’t in “perfect listening conditions” so the MP3s or AACs are fine.

The bit of this that Apple Music/iTunes Match nails for me is I don’t need
to curate two versions of my library, a lossless one at home and a second
compressed one to take with me. AIFFs and CDs are at home in the computer,
and they are instantly available to stream to my phone without having to do
anything extra.
Likewise I can think of something to add out and about or recognise
something with Shazam.. add it to the library and the lossless Apple Music
one is waiting for me when I get home.

You might want to look at your files for duplicates. Gemini 2 is a good app
to look at. Particularly good for finding duplicate photos.

Ooh, thanks for this. I'm not a gamer at all, (ok, I admit I adore Monument

looks utterly charming and compelling!

[sussex_mug] Daisy Disk for iOS/iPadOS

2022-01-08 Thread mac98aop
Morning all

I'm trying to stay on top the exponentially growing iCloud storage across
our Family Sharing. Before upgrading to 2TB, I'm wondering if a purge will
help.

Whilst my wife and children look forward to that spring clean immensely (!)
I'm wondering if there's any App recommendations from your good selves,
rather like a Daisy Disk equivalent?

It could be something 'per device' or if there's an App that the Family
Sharing owner can use across all devices to help out (ie, delete all
screenshots with a click etc) then I'm all ears.

I'm reluctant to upgrade iCloud storage if it's for little more than junk,
but happy to if it's for more helpful things!

Any ideas or suggestions how you manage things?

Best

Adam

[sussex_mug] HMA VPN Query

2022-01-08 Thread 'Steve Davies' via Sussex Mac User Group
Happy New Year Smuggers.

While searching for a bluetooth device on her iPhone, my wife saw HMA
(Hidemyass I believe.) with my name associated with it.

This does not show up all the time, nor does it show on my iPhone.

To the best of my knowledge I do not subscribe to a VPN nor am I aware of any
device I may have that contains a VPN.

Any ideas what the bluetooth search is coming up with?

Kind regards,

Steve.

[sussex_mug] Townscaper - You need this 

2022-01-08 Thread 'Stephen Watson' via Sussex Mac User Group
Hi all,

And now for something completely different …

Thanks to Federico Viticci over at MacStories.net I came across this app about
3 weeks ago. It is totally brilliant and unlike anything I’ve seen. It’s not a
game, it’s a charming, inspired, playful, creative, smile inducing toy. It runs
on the Mac via Steam and can also be downloaded for iOS and iPadOS. Using copy
to clipboard and load from clipboard you can move your designs between devices
if you have Apple’s Handoff enabled.

There are no instructions so it’s a journey of experimentation. The only thing
I would say is explore the grid before you place a piece. Other than that,
enjoy the discovery.

You can find it as Townscaper and here’s a little video on YouTube. Buy it and
you won’t regret it I’m sure. That’s it.
