Re: [sussex_mug] iOS 11.3 a treat of an update on older hardware

2018-04-07 Thread mac98aop
Yup, sure enough, iPhone shutdown at ~18% (as it has for ages!) and when I
rebooted, I was told I was in battery performance management mode. For the
past few days the iPhone has been laggy and a pain to use. Turned that mode
off and it's buttery smooth again.

Hmmm, was it just PR about the "throttling" then? The performance
management spiel might be true and technically get better use from the
battery, but it makes the iPhone a bore to use and certainly 'nagged me' to
upgrade. With it turned off, I'd rather simply a new battery and keep
going. It works just fine!

[sussex_mug] More on iMac problems with High Sierra

2018-04-07 Thread David Ransom
I am convinced that there is something very wrong with High Sierra 10.13.4
on my iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, Late 2015), and I have found many people
asking questions of Apple with no answers so far.

Following my previous problems with the Mac getting stuck on the start up
progress bar, I erased the hard drive and reinstalled the OS. I then put
all my files back in place with Migration Assistant from my Time Machine
back up.

Here are the problems now:

• Lost icons on program (Affinity Photo). Before the wipe and reinstall,
both Notes and Photos had lost their icons.

• Sleep Wake failures. I have set the Mac to never sleep, yet it still
does. When it wakes from sleep, programs have to load again, including
Finder.

• Screen Saver problem. I have turned off the screen saver (it is set to
Never come on), yet it still activates after a long period of inactivity
(not sure how long).

• When I shut down the computer, I am nervous that it will not start up
properly as before the OS re-install. It seems to take a long time to start
up, but that may be because I am watching it more closely.

I am hoping for a software update from Apple very soon!

David
