[RCSE] Supra - Battery Life
I thought I would share it some information. If I already posted this prior, forgive the duplication. A couple of weeks ago I put my new ( used #57 ) Supra up for the first time. The night before I peaked the battery pack using my Triton charger, charging at 200 mAh. This Supra uses 4 2/3A 1400 mAh cells. It looks like the standard Kennedy Composites battery pack. At the field I did several range checks and hand throws to check trim. I then took about 10 short flights, most under 3 minutes, as I was focused on trimming and testing landing mixes. These were launched off a winch that was set out about 600 feet. Later in the day I logged an 87 minute flight in a nice big thermal. Overall I believe my total system on time for the day was about 2 hours 30 minutes including air time and ground work time. I left the plane sitting for two days after those flights and decided to check the pack to see what had been used. The pack was at 4.9V through the charge port. I recharged on my Triton charger at 200 ma. It took 680 mA to come back to peak, or about 1/2 the pack capacity. This accounts for the day's flying plus two days of sitting. It is not often I check may useage so closely so I thought I would share it. I have 6 airtronics digital servos in the bird and a Hitec Super Slim 72 MHz receiver. [RCSE] "Little Lee and Me Did Good Today!"
Got up, got out of bed, grab my hat and went to...the garage to load up my planes. Drove over to our club mascot's house and drug him and his stuff out to the field with me. It was windy already and cool but workable. Lee had a little Saggittish looking HLG that he'd picked up at some swap meet so we got it balanced and programmed, then hooked it up to a high start and he got to flying. The kid is amazing. At that point the wind was really howling, 80% of the guys flying out there would have been either way down wind or crashed! The turbulence got to be incredible, so I put my WHCLSupra together of course :-). I hooked it to his standard high start and stretch it as far as I had room to go, and then watched it pull back behind me on the launch. I got some pretty fantastic launches off that skinny piece of rubber and even hooked up once in a tornado like thermal, but also had my plane flipped and spun a few times too. It was ugly now... I decided to pack up but Lee decided to chuck his ship a dozen more times.. He never let it get behind him and he always kept the nose into the gale on landings It was off to Culvers for butterburgers and Sundays. A treat well earned. :-) You? [RCSE] Antenna Follies
I had a transmitter antenna problem last year. My Futaba 8 U has a Smiley Rubber Ducky antenna. This attaches by means of a spring loaded bayonet mount. Due to the design the spring loading allows the mating pin to flex back and fourth a bit. After years of use I found the pin had broken off and that I had been flying with the antenna connection just barely touching. I think that is what caused the crash of my Organic at last years Nats. So I bought a new Rubber Ducky antenna assuming I would get a few more years of use before it failed. I was wrong. I just checked it and found it had failed the same way. After only a few months of use. Probably due to all the HL flying I've been doing which causes a lot of flexing of the spring loaded mount back and fourth during the launching process with it's attendant mating pin flexing. [RCSE] Postal Ladder Challenge
I was going to try this as practice for the upcoming contest season. Then I thought why not let everyone get in on the fun! The rules are simple, do an 8min. 10min. 12min. and 14min. flight (in order). This is not precision, so you can time yourself, just go over the time by at least one second. After you make each time do a normal measured 25ft landing. Now here is the catch. After each landing you can do that flight again to try to improve on the landing but you only keep your last landing. You cannot go back, you must start over if your unhappy with your score, take as many tries as you need to get each time. Score 1point per second, 2460 total max for time, each landing divide by 2, 50points per landing, making 2660points possible. Three classes, Open, RES, and Easy Glider. Bragging rights only. E-mail your best score and we will compare. This will be on going. Looking to fly tomorrow, we have had rain the last 3 weekends. Mike Reagan

I took my broken 8U antenna, cut it off just above the case exit point and than soldered a length of flexible ext. cord wire to the inside of the antenna tube. I cut it off at the original length of the fully extended antenna, sweated the end than dipped the end in plastidip. I used heat shrink to make a 3 layer strain relief where the flex wire exits the old antenna shaft and added about 6" of .010 music wire under the last 2 layers to stiffen the base a bit. The antenna just hangs vertically (best orientation) and I wrap it around the tx for storage. There is no range reduction, maybe an improvement. I have flown over a mile away with this rig and have never had range issues. (I have stepped on it a few times though...)
