Creation: Horde - new Softimage integration

2013-04-30 Thread Paul Doyle
Hi guys – I've held off posting any updates on Horde as I knew we had a
sweet Softimage/ICE integration in the pipe. The nice thing with our
locomotion system is that it lends itself well to closer shots when you're
working with a few characters - and combined with ICE that makes for some
really interesting options. Helge has only scratched the surface with this,
but already you can see just how awesome the combination is.

1) Reel: https://vimeo.com/61358674

2) Maya integration info:
http://fabricengine.com/creation-modules/inside-maya/ (there's more of a
breakdown here that we don't duplicate in the Softimage section, so I
recommend looking here first).

3) Softimage integration:
http://fabricengine.com/creation-modules/inside-softimage/

4) Main page: http://fabricengine.com/creation-modules/horde/

We're currently in closed alpha/beta - if you're a commercial studio and
you'd like to help with the testing program, please drop me a line.

 Cheers,

 Paul

2Gb limit was a 32bit filesize issue. I had this problem quite often
when doing fluid sims in Maya in the past.
Most annoying thing was that the files were accessible, but only showed
the sim up till the point the file became 2Gb ;-)

Hi Adrian,
You have to work in 2014 to enjoy the "more than 2GB" benefit. In earlier
version, if the file is more than 2GB, then the file is not saved correctly.
2014 would be able to allow you to save it correctly.

Can you do a merge scene and try to export the compound out into 2014?

scene size limit

2013-04-30 Thread adrian wyer
can anyone shed light on a method that's going to save my a$$?

working with heavy point cloud data in 2013SP1

scene size ended up being just a nat's over 2Gb

now i can't open the scene due to it's size being over some arbitrarily
decided limit

although 2014 has no limit, it can't open the scene...

have i just lost a couple of days of work? is my scene file corrupt?

if so.. thanks whoever decided that 2Gb was 'more than enough' !

I don't work on the Softimage docs anymore, but you should log a bug for the

Well, that might not be possible for all of us, as Autodesk might not need that

But seriously, I think this kind of info should be documented in the specific

If I remember correctly, the Group Geometry node will re-size any 2D arrays to
the smallest on in the group. So the new point cloud could will miss some data

I would recommend to collect all your pointclouds with a group Geometry node and plug it into a
"Generate Sample Set" with emission type set to "Point" and Rate type to "all

then you can get whatever data is in the pointclouds via a "self.emitlocation"

you will get a red node if there are custom attributes that are not valid for
all clouds. You can avoid that by setting fake values on the clouds that miss

hope that works for you!

Yeah, something as silly as the help button. You know that small questionmark
you click and it takes you to the online docs in a webbrowser? Very helpful!

Well in 2014 when i click or press F1, it takes me to this Autodesk SI startup
menu instead - That is it shows me a glimpse of what seems to be the right help
page, but then rushes on to the menu, and I have to search for whatever issue I
might have from there.

Anyone else experiencing this? It's really bugging me.

Cheers all!
