[speedtouch] Re: cannot connect to internet using SpeedTouch 330 modem on Kubuntu
Thanks, Andrew for your prompt response. Unfortunately, it didn't help as I already have the folder /media/floppy, but the system doesn't seem to recognize this fact. This is what happens: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/# cp -r /media/floppy/* . chmod +x firmware-extractor cp: cannot stat '/media/floppy/*': No such file or directory [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# cd /media/floppy [EMAIL PROTECTED]: /media/floppy# cp -r /media/floppy/* . chmod +x firmware-extractor cp: cannot stat '/media/floppy/*': No such file or directory As you will have guessed, I'm not a Linux expert and find this apparent contradiction most frustrating. Am I missing something? Anything you can do to help would be much appreciated. [speedtouch] Re: Fedora Core 3 usb_atm.c problem
Hi James, drivers/usb/atm/usb_atm.c: unusable with this kernel! (see at *** below) Does this ring any bells with anyone? I can't find any reference to this as a problem either in your archive, or in Bugzilla, looking for wider possible FC3 issues. this is a known problem with 64 bits machines. The problem is that one of the data structures needs to be small enough to fit in a socket buffer control buffer. The control buffer has the same size on 32 and 64 bit machines, but the data structure gets bigger - too big! Anyway, it's fixed in more recent kernels. All the best, Duncan. [speedtouch] Re: Problem with reconnection
Hi Nicolas, I installed my USB speedtouch 330 modem as specified by the LFS hint. It works OK, I just have a problem with reconnection : my provider (Free.fr, for those who know about it) disconnect me every 24h or so (to prevent me from making money with my own website, I suppose ?), and each time this happens, I get this on my logs : I'm also with free, but they don't disconnect me every 24 hours. Where do you live? Apr 30 04:11:16 detritus pppd[23574]: connect(8.35): Address already in use The previous connection was not closed. cannot stat '/media/floppy/*': no such file or directory Try doing sudo mount /media/floppy first. Ciao, D. Liste de diffusion modem ALCATEL SpeedTouch USB Pour se désinscrire : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Unfortunately, it didn't help as I already have the folder /media/floppy, but the system doesn't seem to recognize this fact. Mounting doesn't create the folder - it puts something in it (the contents of your floppy in this case). Did you try the command (you may need to put sudo in front)? Also, better if you are not in the /media/floppy directory when you issue the command. Ciao, D. Liste de diffusion modem ALCATEL SpeedTouch USB Pour se désinscrire : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Holy smoke! For two days I overlooked the fact that 4.48 is terribly wrong. It should be 8.48! I do not doubt that for the rest of eternity I would have continued to overlook it if not someone had pointed it out to me. I should have known it because the number is correctly given in /etc/ppp/peers/ppp0 under my Mandrake 10.1 installation. I corrected it in /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-dsl0 under my SuSE9.3 installation and now I am online in SuSE too. Thanks! Ed plugin pppoatm.so 4.48 Are you sure 4.48 is correct. [speedtouch] Re: Fedora Core 3 usb_atm.c problem
Thanks. Problems upgrading the kernel now... rpm -Uvh kernel-2.6.11-1.14_FC3.x86_64 replaces my existing kernel grub.conf options; and then fails to boot successfully. (*) So a reinstall of my original FC3 distribution later, ... can you advise - how to have rpm add the new kernel as an altnernative option - whether the kernel-doc kernel-smp rpms matter, and should be installed before the basic kernel rpm (they don't seem to be required) - or whether I'd be better to forget rpm for this, and get 2.6.11.8 directly from www.kernel.org? Thanks very much again. James (*) I had already successfully updated to: udev-039-10.FC3.7.x86_64 policycoreutils-1.18.1-2.10.x86_64 selinux-policy-targeted-1.17.30-2.96.noarch all from the FC3/upgrades/3/x86_64 tree.
