[speedtouch] Re: Speedbundle doesn't just all work

2004-06-02 Thread Konrad Klimaszewski

Hi all,

Speedbundle is little outdated. But if you refresh it, then it works like a
charm :)

As for my experience with speedbundle and MDK 10.0 you have two choices.
1. Change the kernel to 2.4 series and get the speedtouch module from CVS (put
it in kernel_module directory)
2. Stay with 2.6 kernel and edit speedbundles makefile so that kernel module
won't compile

Either way you'll need a recent modem_run. Put it in firmware_loader
directory.

Hope that helps.
Konrad

PS There's my post on this list on the same subject

[speedtouch] Re: Speedtouch Mandrake Linux 10.......

2004-05-18 Thread Konrad Klimaszewski

Hi

I had the same problem. Here's what I've done.

- Reinstalled Mandrake 10.0 - to get rid of mess made by Mandrake
configuration tool
- Installed Mandrakes newest 2.4 kernel with sources
- Installed Speedbundle with some changes:
- speedtouch 1.2 instead of older version shipped with speedbundle
- kernel mode driver from CVS instead of the one shipped with speedbundle

Everything seems to work fine.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

Hi

1.
speedbundle - easy way to install and configure kernel space driver
http://linux-usb.sourceforge.net/SpeedTouch/

2.
Latest kernel space driver (issue those commands):
cvs -d:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvsroot/linux-usb login
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvsroot/linux-usb co
speedtouch

You'll get a speedtouch directory. Replace with it, contents of
speedbundle-1.0/kernel_module directory.

3.
User space driver. Kernel space driver uses firmware loader from it.
http://speedtouch.sourceforge.net/

Replace contents of speedbundle-1.0/firmware_loader with speedtouch 1.2

Cheers

Well I think that any recent 2.4 kernel should do the trick. So if only 2.4.25

[speedtouch] Re: Does Speedtouch work with Kernel 2.6.5?

2004-04-19 Thread Konrad Klimaszewski

Hi All,

 One last remark. I am not using the speedbundle.

 Here an extract of the error messages that I get when I try to compile
 speedbundle sources that I downloaded via cvs.speedtouch.sourceforge.net

 ./configure
 The source for your running kernel is in /lib/modules/2.6.5-James/build/
 Error: ppp_scripts/speedtch not found
 Error: if your ISP uses PPPoATM, then copy ppp_scripts/speedtch-pppoatm
 to ppp_scripts/speedtch
 Error: if your ISP uses PPPoE, then copy ppp_scripts/speedtch-pppoe to
 ppp_scripts/speedtch
 make: *** [configure-stamp] Error 1
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/data/Install/Speedtouch/speedbundle-1.0

Hmm, It isn't the first time that someone sees errors while configuring
speedbundle and doesn't bother to read and understand those messages.

So, Duncan maybe it's time to change dose massages to something else. Maybe
something like this:

Step 1: To run this driver You'll need a firmware. For legal reasons it can't
be distributed with speedbundle

or

Step 2: Please choose appropriate ppp script. If You're using PPPoE .

BTW Isn't speedtch module included in 2.6.* kernels? So will speedbundle work
with those kernels? I tried but failed, though I didn't try hard.

Regards

Konrad

kernel-source-2.4.22-10mdk.i586.rpm - MDK 9.2

Both contain custom suffix in EXTRAVERSION.

Unless there are another kernel-source packets that I'm not aware of, it seems
that someone is assuming that when I install kernel-source I WILL build my
custom kernel. Furthermore that someone assumes that I'll forget to name it -
so it's allready named custom.

If I'll have time I'll try and contact maintainer of those packets.

As for now I thought that some info on MDK in INSTALL would be nice.

Hope I've been helpfull.

[speedtouch] Re: speedbundle-1.0 on Mandrake 9.1

2004-02-23 Thread Konrad Klimaszewski

Hi, Duncan

 How about this:

 3. Mandrake problems

 Building the module for the default Mandrake kernel may not work properly.
 This is because the kernel source Mandrake provides does not match their
 default kernel. This results in the module being installed in the wrong
 directory. You will need to install a custom kernel before compiling the
 module.

I like it very much, but using defult kernel doesn't mean you can't use
speedtch module. Ofcource compiling your own custom kernel is a good thing
but not every linux user is willing to do that.

How about:
This results in the module being installed in the wrong directory. You will
have to edit Makefile to correct that. Another solution is to compile and
install a custom kernel before compiling the module.

And in Makefile
INSTALLDIR := $(MODLIB)/kernel/drivers/usb
#Uncomment the line below if you have problems with installing under Mandrake
#INSTALLDIR := /lib/modules/$(shell uname -r)/kernel/drivers/usb

 Hi Konrad, what is in your $(VERSIONFILE)?\

Hi Duncan, $(VERSIONFILE) seems to be OK:

$(VERSIONFILE)
/lib/modules/2.4.21-0.13mdk/build/include/linux/version.h

Problem is with awk
VERSION := $(shell awk -F\ '/REL/ {print $$2}' $(VERSIONFILE))
because it returns that:
$(VERSION)
2.4.21-0.13mdksmp 2.4.21-0.13mdkenterprise 2.4.21-0.13mdk 2.4.21-0.13mdksecure

So here is /lib/modules/2.4.21-0.13mdk/build/include/linux/version.h

#include linux/rhconfig.h
#if defined(__module__smp)
#define UTS_RELEASE 2.4.21-0.13mdksmp
#elif defined(__module__enterprise)
#define UTS_RELEASE 2.4.21-0.13mdkenterprise
#elif defined(__module__up)
#define UTS_RELEASE 2.4.21-0.13mdk
#else
#define UTS_RELEASE 2.4.21-0.13mdksecure
#endif
#define LINUX_VERSION_CODE 132117
#define KERNEL_VERSION(a,b,c) (((a)  16) + ((b)  8) + (c))

And it's the real problem :)
So maybe switch to uname -r if it will work for everyone?

Hope that helps
