Re: [Spits] Ignition Lamp
Grant, I do know ( at least I've heard)that the bulb is necessary for the alt. to charge.( if the bulb burns out the alt will not charge) If that relates to the wattage, and if an L.E. D. would work,I do not know. The Highbeam Lamp will change to a LED. The Oil Pressure Lamp isn't needed (I have a gauge). What can be done with the Ignition lamp? What does it do ?? Does it have to be lit ?? Can I change it to a smaller bulb and show it somewhere else ?? Re: [Spits] GT6 Bump Steer
Greg, I seem to remember reading that if the steering rack/tie rods are not level, you will experience bump steer.Shimming the rack up was the suggested cure. I don't remember where I read this and cannot attest to it being true. I am only repeating what I think I read. Fw: [Spit] Spifire/GT6 repair chronicles
- Original Message - From: Bob Harris [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Jim Muller [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Sunday, June 17, 2007 1:07 PM Subject: Re: [Spit] Spifire/GT6 repair chronicles Jim, I don't know if I'm the only one who has seen this, but when I ordered parts from Rimmers for a project,I got new pin, bushings for the bellhousing and friction sleeve, the pin came with a head on it so it could not fall out.Seems like a simple solution, that the factory should have used from the beginning. I am mentioning this because if your pin has fallen out, could you have also lost your bushing(s) they are shaped like a top hat and go in the pin opening from the inside of the bellhousing.I think if you have the bushings and no sleeve your pin or bolt or whatever you use will be sloppy in one part or the other. I do not mean to bring up possible problems, just reasons to look for solutions. Hope it all works out, Bob Harris Your messages not reaching the list? Re: more on carb tuning
Tim, If you have had the butterflies out,is it possible that the one is in backwards? There is a taper to the edge so that it will seal completely when allowed to. If installed with the taper the wrong way,it will not seal correctly. I hope I explained this correctly,it is something I read and paid attention to when rebuilding my SU's. Had I not read this I can see where it would be easy to overlook. Hope this helps, Bob Harris *** http://www.team.net/the-local*** Your messages not reaching the list? Fuel line
Friends, On my Spitfire I have a stock fuel pump, hooked to a pressure regulator, through a clear hose,to a glass fuel filter, than to the carbs. When running,I have air going through the line,to the filter. at times the filter looks empty. Has anyone noticed this on their cars? Re: The goldarndest thing!
Jeff, I hope you can disassemble and find the clip that holds the bearing in place on the stub shaft. I have changed these brg's and found it quite difficult to remove the brg. from the shaft. While you're at it, there couldn't be a better time to replace the seal. Re: Strange Spitfire Fuel Delivery Problem
Adam, Glad this worked for you ,but would feel very unsafe using an electric vacuum cleaner to remove anything with gasoline fumes. The arcing of the motor can set off the fumes!!! Re: 65A Alternator; wire concerns....
James, Just because your alt. CAN produce 65 Amps does not mean it will all the time. The only time it should produce high amps is when it is called for. If you hook up driving lights, fog lights,an electric rear window defogger and a high output stereo.and turn them all on at once, you will have trouble. I think if you have stock Spit, you should have no problem. One thing to beware of and this goes for most if not all auto electric systems. If your battery goes dead, you should charge the battery,If you just jump a dead battery, the alt.will put out it's max until the battery is charged. This could be a problem. An Amp gauge might be a good accessory. Re: Bump induced steering
Simon, FWIW Somewhere I read that in order to eliminate Bump Steer you shim your steering rack so the tie rods are level. Let me know if you try it. VTR RED WING
Has anyone heard where the 2003 Convention will be held?? I was at Red Wing, but had to leave before the banquet. Had a great time,Drove 1000 miles in my spit with fresh engine(125 miles when I left) and refreshed O.D. trans. No big problems. Re: Ignition resistor?
Kevin, I believe the resistor that you are talking about is part of the Lucas Opus system, it is called a drive resistor and is located outside of the ignition module because of the size and heat. I believe this is only used with the Amplifier that is mounted to the dist. I have seen it mounted to later models ( that use the constant energy system)without being hooked up. It has nothing to do with the ignition coil voltage. Re: oil everywhere
Doug, Actually,I believe after real seals were added to the trans,O.D. trans still used the scroll. The bellhousing is different, and the input shaft is different. I found this out when I had to replace the input shaft in my O.D. trans.(The trans is from a '80 spit. it used the scroll seal) Bob Harris /// [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list /// Send admin requests to [EMAIL PROTECTED] /// or try http://www.team.net/cgi-bin/majorcool /// Archives at http://www.team.net/archive /// Send list postings to [EMAIL PROTECTED] /// Edit your replies! Re: oil everywhere
Bill, Does this Spitfire have an O.D. trans? The O.D. trans on a spitfire does not have a seal per say on the input shaft of the trans. It does have a scroll seal which is like a reverse thread around the shaft that causes any oil riding up the shaft to return to the inside of the trans,as long as the shaft is turning. SO if you do have an O.D. trans. you do not have to do anything except top up the trans, and keep the nose up when parking on a hill. Hope this is your only problem Bob Harris /// [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list /// Send admin requests to [EMAIL PROTECTED] /// or try http://www.team.net/cgi-bin/majorcool /// Archives at http://www.team.net/archive /// Send list postings to [EMAIL PROTECTED] /// Edit your replies! Re: Fuses
Mike, and everyone else, Please beware. Lucas fuses are rated differently from U.S. fuses. A Lucas 35 amp fuse says 17 amp continous. This is equivilant(sp) to a 17 amp BUSS fuse. A 35 ampBUSS fuse will allow every wire in your car ,with the exception of battery cables,to fry without blowing. This is why I think you hear of so many wiring system burn outs. Head studs
Listers, Sorry I wasn't very clear in my last post. I am looking for the ARP part number for head studs for a 1500. ARP lists p/n ARP-206-4203 for Triumph Spitfire, but I am not sure if it is for early(11 studs) or late (10 studs) and am wondering if they supply 2 longes studs with their kit.
