Just a note here.
We also are running Redline MTL in tranny, no
overdrive and the rear end is also full of a Redline
product... Seems to make shifting and generally
everthing better...

Rumour had it way back when Group 44 was running the Triumphs in SCCA
Nationals that they used Redline synthetic in the diffs and trannys, even
though they were sponsored by Quaker State... 

Back then there were few choices for synthetic and Redline was the hot item.
And still is!

I think my first free hat was from Redline, still have it somewhere...

[Spit] Synthetic gearbox oil? Yay or nay

I'm almost done with the gearbox rebuild and thus subsequent road 
testing after that.


Here's the brick wall I ran into: ran out of gearbox oil. I had 2 
bottles(totalling almost 2 bottles worth) of Valvoline 80w90 I put in. 
But with a rebuilt overdrive, it is needing quite a bit more.


So I bought some of the same type. Only after I brought it home did I 
realize it had the word synthetic on it, looking like the original.


I can't find regular tranny fuild anywhere in the twin cities. Pep 
Boys(only place that carries Castrol GT-LMA brake fluid) only has 
automatic tranny fluid.


So..

Is it safe to fill the remainder with synthetic 80w90, or will it digest 
the syncros?

said that synthetic was a difinite no-no with the
overdrive unit.  Something about it being too
slippery...

That is where the friction enhancers come in.  My gearbox has a D type
Overdrive and like I said, it works fine.
