Re: [Spit] Synthetic gearbox oil? Yay or nay
Just a note here. We also are running Redline MTL in tranny, no overdrive and the rear end is also full of a Redline product... Seems to make shifting and generally everthing better... If not, what can I use for a substitute? Which Redline oil do you use in your (car's) rear end? Thanks, Doug --- Henry Stike [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Just a note here. RE: [Spit] Synthetic gearbox oil? Yay or nay
Rumour had it way back when Group 44 was running the Triumphs in SCCA Nationals that they used Redline synthetic in the diffs and trannys, even though they were sponsored by Quaker State... Back then there were few choices for synthetic and Redline was the hot item. And still is! I think my first free hat was from Redline, still have it somewhere... Clark... I'm almost done with the gearbox rebuild and thus subsequent road testing after that. Here's the brick wall I ran into: ran out of gearbox oil. I'm not 100 percent sure but sometime ago it was said that synthetic was a difinite no-no with the overdrive unit. Something about it being too slippery... --- Joe Curry [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: It depends on what type you have in mind. Synthetic oil is very slick and if you don't have some chemicals in the synthetic oil that intensifies the friction between the synchronizers and the gears, you will constantly be grinding thegears as you shift. That is where the friction enhancers come in. My gearbox has a D type Overdrive and like I said, it works fine. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Bob Van Kirk Sent: Monday, April 30, 2007 5:10 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; spitfires@autox.team.net Subject: Re: [Spit] Synthetic gearbox oil?
