The rules of his company say that he is forbidden from sending messages to a
public forum via email. If this makes it difficult for him to do his job, he
must complain to his boss.

Hi Simon,
But then what would the alternative be?
The poster doesn't choose to have the absurd signature; it's an absurd
corporate policy because their lawyers insist on erring on the side of caution
and have a relatively spineless interpretation of the law.

I'm not sure it is right for the list to ask (let alone require) people to send
work-related emails from their personal accounts. Unless you're a politician
trying to get around various FOI and/or data retention laws, I personally think
a separation of work and personal emails is healthy.

Of course that's ignoring the fact that many organisations actually block
"personal" email access from work anyway and/or forbid using them for work
related purposes.
Cheers,
Jonathan

Yes, exactly. Unless they're communicating formally on behalf of an
organization, there is no need to carry on public discourse using an email
account provided by an organization; a separate personal account works just
fine, and should also outlast being a member of the organization. -- Darren Duncan

Mail-Archive.com has two archives for the sqlite-users mailing list
because its address changed on Feb 13, 2015 from sqlite-
users.sqlite.org:8080 to sqlite-users.mailinglists.sqlite.org

The two archives are, respectively,
https://www.mail-archive.com/sqlite-users at sqlite.org/
https://www.mail-archive.com/sqlite-users at mailinglists.sqlite.org/

I asked if they could be combined and the answer was "Give us a few days
and we'll let you know when they're combined."

Mail-Archive.com returns no hits for 2013 and 2014 even when the search term is
"SQLite". None until sometime in 2015. So the archive is incomplete or its
index is corrupted.

On the other site, your search has results only in 2013 and 2016. With
Mail-Archive.com having no data for 2013, it returns results only from 2016.

In the EU they have no effect. It was judged that it was an attempt to form a
contract with the receiver of the email without any agreement from them. It
can apply only if you've had a previous conversation where they agreed to keep
the message secret.

But it does do something under US law. It invalidates the text even on
messages you /do/ want to be confidential. Because it states "this email is
confidential" on a message which clearly isn't. The example used in court
featured staff of the Public Relations department who used the same disclaimer
as the rest of the company, and routinely sent out Press Releases and messages
to the general public with no confidential information in. The judgement was
that this showed that the company wasn't using that message only for
confidential information, and that that contradicted the text in the message.

So under US law the message may have some effect, but only if you use it only
on messages that /do/ contain confidential information. If you use it for
every message it means you don't mean it.

I Am Not A Lawyer. If you want legal advice, consult a lawyer.

Quite right. I would edit the received mail to get rid of the nonsense, but
there are too many mails to do that. I would appreciate it if they didn't
appear at all.

Thank-you for purchasing electron destruction services from us. Based on
weight,
your e-mail message contains over 400 million trillion electrons. This
qualifies
you for the bulk electron destruction rate of only $1.00 per trillion
electrons.

Unfortunately you do not have any credit history with us. Please submit your
payment for $1.00 million dollars and we will be happy to carry out your
request.

In the interim, your electrons have been placed in a magnetic bottle for
storage.

The estimated cost of storage is $25.00 per hundred trillion electrons per day.

In the event that you fail to pay the amounts invoiced for the services that
you
have ordered, legal action will be taken against you.

When I attempt to search the archives of this mailing list for the word:
LSM_CONFIG_AUTOFLUSH
Using http://www.mail-archive.com/sqlite-users%40mailinglists.sqlite.org/
I get no hits.

But when I search using http://sqlite.1065341.n5.nabble.com/
It does work:
See? -->

Anyone know why?
