No 192.168.22.39 is my iPad. So all errors in the log seem to pertain to
my iPad. I can't see any logs that pertain to my Squeezebox.
BTW, 'Radio' in my previous post meant the radio application of LMS.

i guess we are all curious to know more about archimago's magical
"extremus filter", a squeezelite recipe that goes like
"v::3.05:28:99.7:100:45".
45 at the end here is the phase response, a manual setting between
minimum and linear, which the c-3po plugin does not currently support.

i tired these settings with squeezelite and did not really care for
them. but i am a big believer in server side transcoding/resampling and
would like to try the above recipe with c-3po. i am getting phenomenal
results with the -h option, which in my experience, is the real secret
sauce but i am looking forward to hearing marco's comments as to how to
implement (or approximate) this brick wall filter using c-3po

Sorry, meant to provide more details but then forgot.
LMS is v7.9.1 on a Windows 10 Pro server. Server is wired (1Gbps) to the
router, but both the Squeezebox 3 and the iPad/Squeezepad connect to the
router wirelessly.
Radio stations I tried with are local ones here in Belgium (Q-Music, Stu
Bru, MNM..).

I provided the logs because I indeed see errors there, although I have
no clue what they pertain to. The only real issue I have is that radio
stops playing at a random point, even though on the Squeezebox itself,
it doesn't show as if stopped. Display is still up with name of the
station.

Looks like you could have a network issue since some network errors from
slimproto

More info please.

Version of LMS
What type of server ? what version of windows ?
Network setup (e.g. wireless between router and server , wireless
between server and player etc)
What station being played ?
Why are you having plugin error messages ? (Squeezepad and Classic
shouldn't be using uPNP stuff)

LMS Version 7.7.2 - r33893 was preinstalled (my PR4100 has it too). Of
course now that I add the image of the installer, I see it's called
SqueezeCenter and not LMS, does that make any difference? The update
message says LMS and the link takes me to

STDIN is mandatory for QOBUZ and other plugins, not for local files
playback, but you need one of STDIN/SEARCH to be enabled.

No, at moment you could not select a different output sample rate based
on different codecs.

HumanMedia wrote:
>
>

> pros and cons of each setting?

>From the SOX manual:

All resamplers use filters that can sometimes create ‘echo’ (a.k.a.
‘ringing’) artefacts with transient signals such as those that occur
with ‘finger snaps’ or other highly percussive sounds. Such artefacts
are much more noticeable to the human ear if they occur before the
transient (‘pre-echo’) than if they occur after it (‘post-echo’). Note
that frequency of any such artefacts is related to the smaller of the
original and new sampling rates but that if this is at least 44.1kHz,
then the artefacts will lie outside the range of human hearing.

A phase response setting may be used to control the distribution of any
transient echo between ‘pre’ and ‘post’: with minimum phase, there is no
pre-echo but the longest post-echo; with linear phase, pre and post echo
are in equal amounts (in signal terms, but not audibility terms); the
intermediate phase setting attempts to find the best compromise by
selecting a small length (and level) of pre-echo and a medium lengthed
post-echo.

As a general rule:

using starting and target saple rate well over 44.100 you could safetly
use linear. Upsampling from 44100 you could use linear or intermediate,
downsampling to 44100 or less OR upsampling form sampe rates lesser than
44100 you should use minimal.

That said, if that really matter is debatable. Sure is much more
important the Minimal band-width: Over 99% (990) artifact are liekely to
be produced, 90.7% (907) is the bias point: no artifacts should be
produced under this point, 95% (950) is the 'commonly' advised level.

> Headroom TRUE and Manual gain of 3db, gives a total of 6db headroom?

from the SOX manual:

Playing an audio file often involves resampling, and processing by
analogue components can introduce a small DC offset and/or
amplification, all of which can produce distortion if the audio signal
level was initially too close to the clipping point.

For these reasons, it is usual to make sure that an audio file’s signal
level has some ‘headroom’, i.e. it does not exceed a particular level
below the maximum possible level for the given representation. Some
standards bodies recommend as much as 9dB headroom, but in most cases,
3dB ( 70% linear) is enough. Note that this wisdom seems to have
been lost in modern music production; in fact, many CDs, MP3s, etc. are
now mastered at levels above 0dBFS i.e. the audio is clipped as
delivered.

The h option is used to apply gain to provide head-room for
subsequent processing.

So Automatic Headroom is not a fixed value, is internally calculated to
provide 'just enough'. There is no simple way to know how much negatve
gain is automaticalyy added but yes, Manual gain in db, is added on top
of that.

It depends on the player. If Squeezelite compiled with DSD option
DSDPlay shoul only pass thought, BUT via DOP (max DSD64). Some
squeezelite versions (Squeezelite-R2 and even new versions form Ralphy)
could play native DSD, but in order to take advantage of it you MUST
disable DSDPlay.

Hope is clear enough, please forgive my english, as usual.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Album grouping buckets

2019-02-10 Thread dolodobendan

Do I understand correctly:

If I have x albums like "Études":

- An "É pocket" will be created (and x entries reserved for that).
- The album will be sorted in the "E pocket" regardless.
- The count for "E" albums is wrong (+x, because É is counted, too).
- That results in shifting the last x "E" entries into the "É
  pocket".

That would match my observation.

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Radio streams stopping after a bit

2019-02-10 Thread Squid

I have a problem with playing radio streams. I can start a stream via
Radio -> Local -> Stations -> any station, or by just hitting Play when
I also last played the radio station. However, after a while, the stream
just stops playing. This can be after an hour or after 5 minutes.
I checked multiple stations and all stations have the problem. Also,
this is normally on my Squeezebox Classic, but I tested with the
SqueezePad app on my iPad and it behaves the same as well. So I think
it's an issue with my LMS.

However, I can't see anything in the logs related to this. No new log
entries when the problem occurs. I do see other errors/warnings but they
are not related AFAIK.

The default is 32, but normally a bigger buffer means smoother playback
unless you get short of memory.
